With sake bottles used as decoration and dodgy old Japanese drifting videos playing in the background, it all adds to the experience. But it is the platters of food that will make this your regular hang out, good food and inexpensive to boot. Add a shot of sake or two, some Japanese beer and you've got a good night out. They hand out soya beans to nibble on, and the more you eat the better they get. Narita is a definite must do for all diners on the North Shore.

They have a fairly big selection of Japanese beers - including on tap which is nice, as well as other Japanese alcohol.

The women who serve the sushi can be a bit brisk - think Seinfeld Soup Nazi - but if you stay in line and keep things moving you should be fine. Also, unlike the Seinfeld episode I don't think there is much chance that you'll be banned for life. I recommend the tempura and the fire salmon.

I find that popping in before the mid day to two afternoon lunch rush, is always the best option, so I head in around 11-12. The Sushi is amazingly fresh and tasty. Today I had some delicious alternatives to my usual, spicy chilli chicken and tempura prawn/salad sushi. I like the fact that the store is not located right on a broadway type rd so you do get that chilled view and relaxed vibe which makes for a much more enjoyable lunch. The staff are all very friendly, and I liked that fact there was a little dolls house for my son to play with while I finished my lunch. I will be back again no doubt on my mum and son date in Birkenhead.

The food was good but the variety of sushi available is pretty limited. (Sharaku isn't visible from the street) Sharaku really has an authentic feel to it, the interiors and the menu, plus they wear kimonos here and you kind of feel like you are in a small restaurant in a Japanese village. The menu is quite diverse and they do have a daily specials menu too. My favourite is the mini sushi, so fresh and not so much rice, it is perfect. Their spinach salad with sesame is very tasty too. The food is really well priced, I often feel bad paying so little for a meal here, considering the overall dining experience. The only let down is 3G reception, not even 4G works down here, you may not be able to communicate with the outside world, but you'll have a great meal no doubt about that. Fantastic service and food in a very convenient central city location. It is no wonder Sharaku has been serving up sushi and sashimi since 1987.
