The Japanese-born waitstaff, chefs and owner especially were very helpful, attentive, friendly and polite. Great tasting food, short wait times, wonderful atmosphere and cheerful staff are the only criteria I need for a perfect casual dining restaurant to fill. Definitely made me miss my time in Japan!

And even though one of my visits was close to closing time at the Centre, the dishes were still pretty fresh, and you can order from the menu and have the chefs make nigiri for you... and that impresses me. I'd be happy to eat here the next time I'm at Macquarie Centre (if I'm not eating at Ippudo or Chef's Gallery, which in my opinion are the two stand-out places at Mac Centre... which says a lot given they're nice but not rock star places if at anywhere else).

The variety of sushi is really good - fresh sashimi, grilled scallop, California roll, prawn sushi, salmon, baby rolls.. I could happily go on and on.. There are Japanese chefs busily preparing food in front of you and they are more than happy to make you a fresh plate of whatever you would like off their menu. There is also a selection of Japanese dishes on the menu which you won't find on the train but can be ordered from the wait staff. If you have any room left for dessert after sampling all the delicious sushi, I recommend ordering the green tea ice-cream off the menu. It comes in a sundae glass and there is enough to share between two. Although, it's so good you may not wish to share it with anyone else.

The Haymarket store is super big with a bar to sit at, a range of smaller tables and also some private rooms that also have karaoke. It is conviently close to central station and also the capitol theatre for those theatre lovers amongst us. We sat in a booth, ideal for the 6 of us in a quiet spot and the waiter served us a few cold Asahi's, perfect to accompany our first course - an array of sushi and sashimi. This was served in a huge sushi boat, which would be suitable for a party so you can try a few things. It was filled with kingfish carpaccio, smoked Toro, and a few types of nigiri sushi - fois gras, scampi, Umi, salmon belly, kingfish as well as a purple soft shell crab roll. Our favourite was the toro (salmon belly). It also had two new dishes, their Umi chirashi waffle ice cream cones, filled with sashimi (salmon or tuna), avocado and topped with konbu cream and a lotus chip. We then got a mix of hot and cold dishes in including Truffle cabbage, mentaiko omelette, grilled cheese scallops, grilled quail, mixed skewers and a wagyu steak platter. The final savoury dish was a soy milk broth hot pot which came with premium wagyu beef and a huge platter full of seafood and dry ice smoking from it for theatrics. We cooked this ourselves and mixed it all together while we waited. Ending on a dessert platter, we enjoyed some ice cream, matcha green tea cake and cheesecake. We were certainly satisfied by the end of this.

The tonkatsu was not oily and i love how it came with rice (unlike sushi suma). Though i was extremely full when i was done, they brought dessert! A small panna cotta but really good as well.
