My husband and I both got chicken teriyaki bowls with the added vegetables- totally wonderful food! I love that the carrots and broccoli were cooked perfectly- not mushy and not crunchy. I "tried" to eat here a number of times. Either they were closed or out of food. I'm super glad I kept trying. Today I stopped by for lunch. Now, it's a very tiny place, only 2 tables. Coming from Hawaii for college, I was on the look out for a good sushi place that was similar to sushi restaurants back home and thankfully stumbled across this place. I have tried a lot of different sushi places around town to finally write a review on one i truly enjoyed. I could say that there are no other places that compares to Sushi J in regards to the taste, appearance, and quality of the fish! Although waits are long for the food, you have to understand that you are paying for good food and not fast food and seeing some bad reviews about the service is disheartening because the couple running this establishment is very nice if you really talk to them. Some people may not like how busy they are and how stressed the workers get during crunch hour, but this is a true family sushi shop similar to many sushi shops in Hawaii, that are the same way during crunch hour. The quality of their fish is top notch and you truly won't find another sushi place in Prescott that has their level of quality. It may be on the expensive side but keep in mind these people are importing quality produce from all over country... if not world. That being said, their dynamite and spider roll is my top favorite aside from many of their plate lunches and rolls! I am very glad this business is getting this much attention from residents here as it is a place I crave every time i'm back home in hawaii and wish they opened up another shop in Honolulu. read more

Sad to say I wanted to like this place, but after going last night, such a let down. The place is clean which is always a good sign. We ordered small since it was our first time. A salmon roll and the poke roll. $20 later one plate comes out with your most basic salmon roll which was fine it was like $6, but then my $13 poke roll was the same size and not very different. Its like they charged me $7 just to add avocado to the salmon roll. So the salmon roll first bite in and it was room temperature... sorry but I believe fish should be cold. Then the poke roll, was same room temperature fish with a small piece of avocado and the lightest drizzle of spicy mayo, which honestly tasted like the ones you can buy in a bottle from the store. For the price we paid I will avoid. Wish I could say better. read more

My husband and I came here for the first time last weekend on a tip from a friend. We were greeted and chatted up by the owner, who was more than happy to go over the rolls with us and answer the questions we had. We ordered the Spider Delight and Crunchy Eel rolls, and got to watch the sushi chef at her work from our table. The place is small (only room for 2 small tables) but clean, with an open layout - I liked being able to see exactly what they were doing back there, and hearing the oil sizzle for our Crunch Eel roll! It took about 20 minutes to receive our 2 rolls, but when the owner brought them out for us, I was MORE than happy with our wait. The rolls were fresh and delicious, and the Spider Delight was unique - not the same tired old fish/cream cheese/avo/cucumber combo. It is quite clear that this couple conducts their business with care and an eye for detail, which is pretty refreshing. As we ate, a group of 4 that were obvious regulars came in. The owner seemed genuinely pleased to see them, and it was fun to hear him banter with the group. When we were finishing up, he came over to make sure we were happy with our order and basically just sent us on our way feeling really good about the whole experience. Thanks to the quality and atmosphere of Sushi J Express, I hope that gets to be us after a few months! Please note: you order and pay for your sushi at the same time, like a fast food place. We didn't realize that until it came time to leave a tip and had no cash. We ended up buying one of their bottled drinks so that we could be sure to leave a generous tip for our great meal. If you don't want to stiff them, either make sure you leave your tip when you pay for your order, or if you're hesitant, at least go back to buy a drink and leave your appropriate tip there :) read more

Eating at Sushi Express on a lunch break is like taking a mini vacation to an upscale Japanese restaurant; the quality of the food is that good. The menu covers the basics like California rolls, noodle dishes and tempura. There are also more exotic options like the Sunomono, which is octopus, shrimp, squid and mackerel served with rice wine and vegetable garnish. The shrimp tempura is melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
