This is a decent place to grab a meal, service one would expect in a higher turnover restaurant & has a pho that absolutely hit the spot. There's plenty of parking spots available in the shared business parking lot & no stairs to contend with. Tables are all lower, some tables able to accommodate larger groups. I never find the lights bothersome & even with young families in a full restaurant, I didn't feel myself cringing from too much noise. I selected the beef pho & enjoyed their green tea for my supper. My friend enjoyed her sake with a combo choice of sashimi & sushi (it's big enough that she ended up taking some home). Both of us were very happy with the quality of food but she did remark on prices being higher than expected (she thought it went up again from last time we were there in fall but I don't think I ever look at the menu as closely as she has). Don't listen to the other reviews. The staff was very lovely, friendly and attentive. They were full staff and place was pretty packed for a Thursday! The food came out fast, fresh and it was delicious. The place is more on the casual vibe with families and people just there to get some food. I recommend if you're in the area. Acceptable food, awful service. We go there periodically mainly because I only eat brown rice & some sushi restaurants don't have the option so it limits our sushi places. The service is the worst there though otherwise we would go more often. Completely rude, they won't look at you or ever ask you if you need anything. On Friday we literally sat there trying to make eye contact with them as they ignored us repeatedly, were trying to order some more food & just gave up. Then trying to get the check, same no one would look at us or give us any acknowledgement. This is a small place Their lobby was filling up with people who also seemed annoyed that they were being ignored, no one greeted them at all. Finally my husband went up to the kitchen and asked if we could get our check. So weird! Like, why wouldn't they want to clear out a table and accommodate people waiting? read more

I live in Toronto and I was visiting the island for family vacation. We were craving sushi so we made a random stop in Duncan and was looking for a sushi place. There were several sushi places in this town and I gave this one a go, and I do not regret my decision. Every penny well spent here. Food was fresh and delicious, staff was attentive and friendly, and serving was fast but not to the point of feeling rushed. Aside from other menus, their selection of rolls are enormous. Obviously we haven't had chance to try them all, which now I think it's shame since we are not locals. But oh boy if I can recommend one item from the menu, their Las Vegas and Volcano Rolls are GOD LIKE. I've never had such good stuff back at home in Toronto. Anyways, 5/5. Will I come back? Sure, only if it wasn't for 5 hour flight from where my home is. read more

Just moved to Duncan and was looking for some good sushi. Me and my husband are vegan so we were happy they had some options for us. When we arrived we experienced terrible service from the beginning and didn't let that stop us from having a lovely dinner. When the food arrived we were very disappointed. The rolls were way too filled that they wouldn't stay together. That's the worse when every single rolls falls to pieces. We'll never go here again. Luckily we found Japan Town that has better sushi just down the street that we'll be going to moving forward we also found Sushi Wara in Ladysmith that is incredible! The shrimp salad roll was almost all lettuce - huge disappointment! The beef teriyaki lunch combo (over $12) was not worth the money - beef had a lot of fat in it. I would not go here again. Two lunches was $33 (no beverages). read more

I've been going for years because they used to have good sushi, the service has always been terrible though. They have a high turnover of staff and yet not once have I had a waitress/waiter who has checked in on us once during our meal to get us more water/ask how the food is. Worst service I've had in years at around 3pm on October 29. The girl with the pierced nose didn't greet us, didn't smile, didn't get out menu to us quickly so I got my son to get one from her, she didn't quality check. I sent back the horrible hot sake and she didn't apologize or offer an alternative. We would have ordered more but she never came by and she not once smiled. I have eaten here three times and always have poor service, even after tipping well and the restaurant was mostly empty. Twice my food has had cheaper, unappetizing substitutions I was not informed of when ordering, which completely changed the dish. The place is clean and service is friendly and prompt. The sushi was fine but for the price you are paying for what you get, is really not bang for your buck. The sushi set for two is small and are mostly rolls if you like rolls. Best surprise here is the Monkey brain. I was visiting friends in Duncan on September 15th-17th. I was hungry after getting picked up in Nanaimo at the ferry. I ordered miso soup, appetizer tempura and veggie roll. I asked for extra ginger and they gave me a generous portion. All of it was good and cost $13.55 after tax. I went back again on the day I was going home and ordered the same again and it was good so they seem to be consistent. I will go back the next time I am visiting Duncan. read more

This restaurant started out well when it first opened, however it has gone downhill. We consistently have terrible service, and they seem to have quite the turn over off staff, which is not a good sign. Last time we ate there the Dungeness crab roll did not look or smell fresh, gyoza was fried and served with a sweet dip, which is not traditional. There was a sticky grime all over the table like it had been cleaned with a dirty cloth. We've given this place plenty of chances but won't go back. read more

I have been to this place several times and I tried different kinds of rolls and they were all fantastic. They have execellent service and reasonable price. If you want sushi in Duncan, I would recommend this place. I have been to sushi harbor and sushi house in Duncan and i like sushi house much better. read more
