I loved the overall atmosphere of this restaurant. It's very quiet and cozy - if you're looking for a date night, this would be an ideal place to have a date. The service is friendly and efficient, which is great since this means you don't have to wait long for your food to be prepared. The prices were also quite reasonable, and the property is kept very clean. I also came here with a group of friends from Powell River, and we all agreed that this may be some of the best sushi we've ever had. Will be back here for sure if travel ever takes me back to the Courtenay area!

They barely hit the mark on all the items they could have labelled, I found it easier to ask staff about their gluten free options, as it was a lot more! The birthday girls food did not arrive ! ... After getting menus we waited 30 mins before the waitress came back to take our order. When she took the order she did not write anything down, each of us ordered different things. The food began arriving 15 mins later in dribs and drabs, the birthday girl shared her partners plate while waiting for her expected meal. The waitress did not come back at any point to ask how the food was, and when we did get her attention to let her know a meal was missing she quickly disappeared. 15 mins later we gave up and decided to leave and let the waitress know we wanted the bill. She then came back with the missing meal, after the rest of us had finished ours and eaten the birthday cupcakes we brought. We told her it was too late for the food and to bring the bill and payment machine, she then said we could take the meal as a take-out, we declined. I wont be returning, and caution potential customers about the slow and unreliable service. They should invest in some front of house technology or at least a note pad and pencil.

The nice mature Asian lady greeted and seated me. She was helpful when I inquired about the menu. I ordered: - Hotate (Scallop) nigiri sushi - Tobiko (Flying fish roe) nigiri sushi - BBQ Duck Bento Box (served with miso, rice, veggies, prawn and veggies tempura and Edamame) They served the miso soup first. It was part of the bento box. This miso soup had a generous amount of seaweed but no tofu. I was a bit surprised. On the menu, you can order miso soup on its own or miso soup with tofu. The flavour was perfectly balanced, and I appreciated the seaweed. The ingredients of the sushi were very fresh. I loved the texture and sweetness of the big piece of scallop on the nigiri sushi. The tobiko was equally fresh. The sushi rice was also good. They give a good amount of sliced ginger and wasabi on the side. The BBQ duck bento box was a fusion influenced by Chinese cuisine apparently. I have had the usual beef and chicken elsewhere. I thought I would give the creativity a try. It didn't disappoint me. The flavour of the duck was great. I didn't expect it to be too tender as it's the Chinese BBQ duck, yet it could be a little juicier. The rice in the bento box was cooked perfectly which went well with the duck. There were 4 decent pieces of tempura: 2 prawns, 1 zucchini and 1 yam. The tempura batter was nice, not greasy at all. The one interesting thing was that they don't have tempura sauce. When I asked for it, I was provided the same vinaigrette sauce already given with the bento box. This was the only drawback; otherwise, the meal would've been a 5-star. They are located near residential area and have easy and free street parking.

So, when I get a chance to visit someplace that has a Taco Time, you can safely assume that I'm going to go and get my fix. In fact, over the course of a weekend, we went twice, because my sweetie knows my quirks, and is very tolerant. (Or maybe she was just afraid that if she didn't let me go to Taco Time, that I'd try the sushi place next door.) This location didn't disappoint me at all. The staff are friendly and helpful, and even made me something that's no longer on the menu, because they knew how to make it and had the ingredients anyway. And the food was the way I like it: lots of fresh ingredients, no skimping on the lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese the way a certain other taco chain does, and my choice of how hot I want my hot sauce to be. (Yes, I dip my Mexi-fries into the little cups of hot sauce -- my burritos, too.) Now if I could only figure out a way to fit the whole franchise onto a trailer and haul it back to Ontario...
