If you're looking for a job as a bouncer or personal bodyguard, apply to Nobu Marbella for New…read moreYear's Eve. Access to the music platform is strictly restricted for Nobu guests. It is guarded by men in black, while the same band plays--simultaneously--for several neighboring restaurants. Dancing is prohibited for the first five hours. What is allowed is continuous acoustic bombardment from exhausted, second-hand loudspeakers. We were a group of sixteen friends, seated at separate wooden tables, placed back to back, with no real comfort or space. Chairs and backs rubbed constantly against guests from neighboring tables, creating a cramped, almost physical intimacy with strangers--hardly the setting one expects for a €550 New Year's Eve dinner. No tablecloths, cheap sticks and cutlery, and a layout that felt closer to crowd storage than hospitality. Conversation was impossible. Dancing was impossible. The music was too loud to talk over, too erratic to move to, and entirely indifferent to the people supposedly dining. The restroom experience deserves its own paragraph. Everything happens in individual cubicles, which explains the endless queues. Since women rarely enter alone--and men seem equally fond of company--the line appears to move but, in reality, never progresses. As for the food, the quality has already been discussed. What completes the picture is the combination of overpricing, crowd control, and staged exclusivity--a carefully choreographed rip-off wrapped in brand mythology and enforced by security. A New Year's Eve designed not for celebration, but for containment.

Eel deluxe roll: grilled eel and avocado topped with seared butterfish and crunches on top. This was my favorite!
Wasabi bomb: tuna with cucumber and wasabi. This one has a bite to it! Tuna was fresh and delicious!

The food was very tasty and the decor as well as the personnel were lovely. Would probably try next time for dinner instead as there were few people at lunch and there is supposed to be a teppanyaki show which should be great to watch.

The girl that waited our table that night had such attitude but not all of them were that way. I guess it is a lot nicer to sit there next to the fountain on a sunny day but we were there at christmas eve.

The funny thing is that they switch on the music and the heating when I arrive. It makes me feel important :) This time it was a Friday night around 21. Anyway I think this place should be much busier. Let's get to the food: unlike the (only) other reviewer I found the sushi very fresh and tasty especially compared to similar priced places in the area. The Korean owner is also the chef and knows well what he does. They don't have a massive choice of fish probably because of the little business they have in this period of the year, but the ones offered, i repeat it, tasted fresh and really good to me. Also I digested without any problem, good sign. Just ask the chef for suggestions and you won't be disappointed. The service also was very attentive, but that's pretty obvious as there was a customer/waiters ratio of 1:1. I'll definitely go back there.

But after being seated, it took almost 30-45 minutes to get the menu and then another 30-45 minutes to have someone take our order. I'm also fairly certain they helped a table that arrived after us BEFORE helping us... When they finally came to take our order, they said their wifi was down, thus there was a delay in the orders and the kitchen. I understand things like that happen but to be informed that 30-45 minutes in is frustrating... anyway, so when the food finally comes, it's nicely plated and tasty! Now comes the bill. So we asked for the bill almost immediately after eating because it was starting to get cold (our table was outside since the ones inside were maxed out) and we were outside for long due to that delay. Yet it took another 30 minutes to get the bill... and we had to ask 3 different staff... that's just ridiculous. By the time we finally paid and left, I was basically frozen. I think this place may be good for take-out but certainly not dine-in.
