My sister suggested that we check out hiring Susan as our wedding photographer when she saw photos on Facebook of her friend's wedding (which were gorgeous). After viewing Susan's portfolio, we knew we had to hire her. We loved the raw emotion that came through in her photos and her incredible use of light. We also loved that the photos looked natural and not at all posed as I find is typical of other wedding photographers. We booked Susan several months in advance to ensure she was available for our wedding. As the day got closer, we had several touch points with Susan both via email and telephone to ensure all the details of the day were ironed out. With our wedding being in Manhattan and us wanting to do first look along with photos of us and our dog there were a lot of logistics that needed to be ironed out. Susan provided great suggestions as to certain areas of Manhattan that she suggested we shoot in addition to being completely patient and easy going as we moved around the city. Susan was incredible to work with and very efficient in getting her shots--there was no standing around or wasting time. Throughout the night Susan was quick to jump on photo requests and also captured candid shots. There was no question in my mind who my ideal photographer would be for our wedding. I have followed (stalked) Susan Stripling for years and I have always admired her use of light and the emotion that her images evoke. My husband and I are also wedding photographers so we knew that this was an area of our wedding that we were willing to splurge on. Let me tell you - It Was So Worth It! When we saw our gallery we were blown away by all of the images we received and how gorgeous they were. I loved reliving our day and seeing the things that I never really had a chance to absorb that day. Susan was phenomenal to work with. She was calming and it was so easy for us to relax in front of her. I'm sure that most couples choose to have an engagement session but because she is in New York and we are in Washington that was not an option. I will be honest, I seriously felt like we had a previous session already with her - we were that comfortable. The way she treated us that day and after made me and my husband feel like we were her only clients and we felt so special. I would encourage you, especially if you are in her area, just email her and see her sample galleries. They are some of the most consistent galleries that you will find. Now we have hundreds of gorgeous images that I cannot wait to display in our home and pass down to our children. I am so thankful we have these memories and the icing on the cake for us was getting to meet an amazingly talented and kind photographer who both my husband and I have admired for years. No words could accurately describe Susan's pictures (but I'll take a feeble stab at it)! For starters, she was incredibly responsive, fun to work with, super flexible, absolutely tireless (I actually think she climbed on a billboard to get the perfect shot of our rooftop dinner!), and more than fair on pricing. Then there are the pictures. . . to say they are stylish, classy, unique, stunning, or perfect would be a total understatement. They look like a Vogue-produced coffee table book of the hottest wedding around, yet somehow still captured every emotion, every tender moment, and every detail. Every single member of the wedding party, without exception, said these were the best pictures of themselves they'd ever seen, and my husband and both of my sisters immediately changed their facebook profiles to one of Susan's pictures. It's been four years since our wedding and we STILL have people gasping when they see the photos somewhere. The only negative about using Susan is that it's virtually impossible to narrow down the favorite photos to a display-able number! read more

After speaking with Susan, reading all the glowing reviews about her and following her Instagram feed, we were excited to have her photograph our daughter's wedding. We had high hopes. Sadly, we were disappointed. I don't know where the disconnect occurred, but there were so many missed opportunities to capture the emotions of the day that I don't have the room to list all of them. She told us a second shooter wouldn't be needed, as her assistant would be able to take photos also from different vantage points. Not. She told us that she wanted to spend an hour with the bride and groom before the ceremony in different poses to "document their love". Not. There was not a single full length picture of the bride showing the wedding dress and veil. (as all her Instagram feeds show). There was just one picture of the bride dancing with her father where you can see their faces (the other two were taken of their backs). Every single photo of the bride and groom's first dance was taken from behind them, so there are no emotions captured of them looking at each other...Even though she gave them a questionnaire to fill out in advance and they specifically mentioned how long they had been practicing the first dance and that they wanted her to be sure to take photos of it. Their friends took far better pictures of the dance on their iphones. And there was over an hour and a half of down time that the entire bridal party was in the bridal room, hanging out and waiting for the ceremony-- but Susan wasn't there to capture any of it. When we received the proofs, we told her about all of this (and more), and she refunded a small portion of what we paid. But of course, the day can never be recreated and we will never have the photos we believed we would have. How sad. Certainly some of the pictures she took were lovely, thank goodness. But I do not recommend her. read more

Hiring Susan Stripling for my engagement and wedding photos was the best decision ever! I've never really been comfortable in front of a camera, but Susan makes it SO easy. Any session with her feels like you get to hang out with your super cool friend who also just happens to capture the most gorgeous photos. Working with Susan was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Her work absolutely gorgeous and unique. She captured the essence of my husband's and my relationship throughout our engagement and wedding photos. We just got our wedding photos back and we are having an extremely difficult time just choosing which ones to print because there are so many beautiful ones to choose from.
