Like most customers, I'm not a technician. I brought my vehicle to a professional repair shop expecting an accurate diagnosis and honest communication.
Champs diagnosed the issue as a failed thermostat and water pump and recommended replacing both. I approved the repair because I trusted they had identified the root cause.
That trust turned out to be misplaced.
After paying for the repairs and being told my vehicle was fixed, I picked it up. Within approximately an hour, the exact same symptoms returned: overheating, limp mode, and the check engine light. The problem I paid to have fixed was still there.
I brought the vehicle back, expecting a deeper investigation. Instead, the process dragged on with inconsistent communication. Days would pass without meaningful updates, forcing me to repeatedly contact them about my own vehicle.
The vehicle was returned to me again. The same problem returned. This cycle repeated multiple times.
Eventually, you stop feeling like your vehicle is being diagnosed and start feeling like you're participating in a guessing game.
What bothers me most isn't the money. I understand automotive repairs are expensive and complex problems exist. What bothers me is that the original diagnosis did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue that brought me there.
Had they told me, "We believe it's the thermostat and water pump, but there may be deeper electrical or ECU-related issues requiring additional diagnosis," I would have respected that honesty.
Instead, I repeatedly received a vehicle exhibiting the exact same symptoms.
Another red flag was when complimentary services started being offered. While some customers might appreciate that, it didn't inspire confidence. I wasn't looking for free services. I wanted my vehicle properly diagnosed and repaired.
Eventually, I was informed that the vehicle might need an ECU repair costing thousands more.
That raises a simple question: If the ECU was a possible cause, why wasn't that discussed before replacing major components and repeatedly returning my vehicle as repaired?
I understand vehicles can be difficult to diagnose and technicians are human. What I don't understand is how a customer can pay for repairs, experience the exact same failure within an hour, repeat that cycle multiple times, and still have no resolution.
The outcome was simple:
I brought them a vehicle with overheating issues and a check engine light. I paid for repairs intended to fix those issues. The same problems repeatedly returned, and I ultimately took my vehicle home with the check engine light still on.
Everyone can draw their own conclusions.
I would not trust Champs Automotive with another vehicle. I strongly encourage anyone considering major repairs to ask detailed questions, demand clear communication, and consider a second opinion before authorizing expensive work.
UPDATE: I took my vehicle to a reputable European vehicle mechanic who determined there was nothing wrong with the ECU. The actual issue was my battery. Once I replaced it, all the problems went away.
I'm not sure why Champs decided to respond to my review when, at the end of the day, they failed to properly diagnose my vehicle and left me with an unresolved problem. After multiple visits, unnecessary frustration, and being told I might need another $2,000 repair, a simple battery replacement resolved everything.
Instead of acknowledging their failure to diagnose the issue, they chose to respond publicly. The fact remains that I paid for repairs that didn't solve my problem, and another mechanic identified the actual issue.
If you own a European vehicle, avoid Champs Automotive at all costs.
