Our car's air conditioning gave up the ghost one hot Wednesday afternoon. Checking online for local repair shops the reviews of Wilhelm instilled confindence. We call and made an appointment to bring our car the next day. The folks at Wilhelm did a quick examination and brought us the bad or badder news. We had two quotes; one at $1900 and one at $1600. The difference being off brand components. Our service tech did give us a moment and we chose the lesser cost option. They told us that our car could be ready by 4pm that afternoon and they offered to take us home and pick us up when the car was ready. We really appreciated their offer (we live about 18 miles outside of Surprise). Their driver was friendly coming and going. The service was prompt; however as we drove off our engine and transmission were lurching. We made one stop and decided to immediately bring back our car back to the shop. The quickly took it back and we waited. They said they needed to drive it for about 10 miles to reset the computer engine system because it was self adjusting. We waited another 20 minutes and our car was ready again. We got in drove off and all seems good. In summary, Wilhelm Automotive was courteous, efficient, and responsive. Staff was all very friendly and we will bring back our car if we have other service needs. We did get a "free" sunscreen. My wife and I laugh and call it our $1600 sun shade. read more

Sketchy and expensive. My daughter brought her car in for a misfire. They said they wanted $1200 to change spark plugs and do a carbon clean out. I told her to decline and I will change the plugs in the parking lot.... After the diagnosis and explanation and after my daughter declined....They call her back and say they found some kind of fuel leak related to her fuel pump. Why wasn't this mentioned before? It's wild because her car smelled like gasoline after that, but it had never smelled like that before we brought it in! Idk what kind of shady shit they're pulling but that's what happened. MY plug change is working great...still can't figure out this fuel leak they're talking about, but still catching whiffs of gas here and there. Idk what they did but I'm convinced they did something. Brought my F-250 in for a left pull. They adjusted the toe, said it was fine, and told me I needed a gearbox and tires. No alignment printout because their printer was "broken." After replacing the gearbox and tires, I came back since it still pulled left. Now they said the caster was out (clearly, missed the first time). $545 later, the truck still doesn't track straight. Printer is still "broken" as well so no print out. Gave them another chance with a simpler vehicle, now my car pulls right. Still no print out, just a blurry picture of a computer monitor I can barely read. About $700 spent between the two, and neither vehicle drives straight. A lot of time and money I'll never get back. I left this same review on google 3 weeks ago. Someone called to tell me that another shop will call me to properly fix my vehicles. Never received that phone call. read more

Update: Management reached out and offered reimbursement to make things right. We appreciate their effort to rectify the situation. DO NOT USE this Wilhelm location. We brought our truck in with an error message that limited the speed of the vehicle until the issue is resolved. After a week, they claimed to have fixed the issue, but they could not get the error message to clear. They were going to bring in someone to clear the message. After another week they called with a $2300 bill and told us we needed to take it to the dealership to clear the error message. They were super proud of themselves for clearing the engine light, but they were unable to resolve the error message. When we picked up the truck and PAID $2300 we had the SAME PROBLEM AS WHEN WE DROPPED IT OFF. The truck STILL COULD NOT TRAVEL AT FULL SPEED DUE TO THE ERROR MESSAGE. While waiting in line to get the keys, a woman was asking about line items on her bill. The guy at the desk could not explain the charges. At best, they are completely incompetent. At worst, they are running a really dishonest business that charges people for repairs they do not actually do read more

I had an issue with how my car was driving. It felt like something was not functioning properly and I called the nearest automotive shop to me. Wilhelm Automotive popped up and I decided to call before coming. Mike answered with such enthusiasm and kindness. As I told him about my situation, he was accommodating and welcoming. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by David. I mentioned Mike and both members were able to calm me down and ensure they would be able to figure out my issue. Mike was pleasant and very informative on my options. I'm not sure bc while the customer service was friendly I went in knowing I needed new breaks. I asked over the phone worse case scenario how much it'd cost. Told them the make and model of my car and was quoted $450 at worst. Took the car in and it was actually about $600 something and got an oil change equaling out to $700 and some change. I went in being able to afford with the $450 quote was then asked who quoted me and they asked him. He stated he accidentally quoted me for front breaks not rear. I feel since it was a mistake in their end they should've honored the price they gave me but that not how life works right.... Took my car in for brakes and rotors. Was pretty pricey comparatively but thought I was in good hands.Ended up getting faulty parts that weren't compatible with my car which caused my car to emit a jog pitch squeal, sounding worse than when I took the car in. Took it back and paid for factory rotors and spend another 2 hours of my time waiting to be told that it was fixed. Two minutes down the road the noise was back so I had to turn around and take it back only to be told it needs to stay overnight and there may be more costs associated with this issue when it wasn't an issue prior. To make matters worse, when I called the first time the Service advisor was rude and confrontational when I told them I was highly upset with the service, which I was rightfully so to be displeased. It's taken time out of my day and time away from my life plus more money every time I step into the shop. Pretty sure I'm getting taken advantage of as a women which is also sad because they pride themselves in the comfort of women. Well this woman is unfortunately very uncomfortable and out almost 2k. And I let the service manager know that. He sold me 2 tires that the car needed and he charged me for the certificates to repair the tires. At checkout, I asked if the certificates would transfer to the new owner... And he said No. I guess I should have asked that question before I checked out, but I would have wanted them to be looking out for me and not have charged me as they don't transfer with ownership. read more

Had a service done to my vehicle in regards to a fuse that sits on top of the battery. Have the part replaced was charged 400+ dollars there was a warranty on the part three-year 36,000 miles although sales rep told me his lifetime the point of the matter is Eight months after purchasing their service and having a part replaced apart goes out again I have now moved to Reno Nevada and I spoke on the phone to someone at the location in surprise. They told me to bring in the part although I don't live in Phoenix, and they would do an even exchange for the part. I was told from David the manager that I was missing two parts so I had those parts FedEx overnight and brought those parts in on Saturday. When my family member brought the parts in on Saturday, they were told because the manager David was upset about the transaction that we were not able to get our warranty part although it was completed. so now we have to wait until the manager got in now delayed the usage of my vehicle because he chose to throw the power card up and refused to give my warranty part back to me. Texted the individual on Saturday to let him know they refused to give me back my warranty part, and the manager was really rude And chose not to fix the problem. So due to the power rage of the manager, I was not able to get my part mailed back to me and to get my truck back and going because of manager being spiteful. If you're gonna charge an outrageous amount to fix a vehicle that took you guys literally 30 minutes the least you can do is hold up your end of the bargain and replace the warranty parts as is it 11/24/2022 The marketing director Mr.Montgomery Miller responded to my complaint with lies. Mr.miller claims my family member demanded the representatives from this company open there shop after they closed to repair my vehicle, when in fact indeed the truck was never there. It was in Nevada. He even stated in the letter that they new the truck was not there at the shop. Mr. Montgomery Miller stated that I didn't contact the shop with in normal business hours. Which in fact I sent over 3 call records with me calling way before there business closed. This business just does not know how to answer the phone. The fact that this company defended there Location mangers behavior in regards to him throwing a fit and not giving the warranty part to my family when the part was completed is outrageous. My car was running hot and the air conditioner stopped working. I called David, the Manager, as I've always taken my car there and gotten good service. He told me to bring my car in that day. Through no fault of theirs it needed a part that couldn't be gotten locally. It took several days but they rented me a car so I was able to keep my appointments. If I could give negative stars, I would. Brought my F150 in for tires and brakes. Service manager recommended a transmission fluid and filter change. 80K miles and Ford recommends it, so OK. Going down the 202 and a puff of smoke out the back, I know something isn't right. Pull over and tranny fluid sprayed all over the underside of my truck. Bring it back and they say looks like the pan is leaking and is damaged. Well, they had to drop the pan to change the fluid and filter, no? They'll cover a new pan but I have to pay the labor. Get the truck back and out in Scottsdale I notice the transmission disengages and is also running hot... temp gauge is pegged out. Bring it back again. Come to find out they put the wrong fluid in. So they supposedly put in the right fluid and filter and I get the truck back. Still having issues with the tranny so I call. No help offered, no refund offered. They basically wrecked my truck so I had to trade it in while it still moved. Do NOT get any work done here. My truck was down for a week total and I rely on my truck for my business. Was a customer for several years, until I took my truck in for a CEL. They diagnosed the issue as needing eight new spark plugs, eight new coil-on-plugs, eight new plug wires, the labor, and a fuel system flush and treatment. Total cost? Over $2,600. When I asked which cylinder[s] were affected, the service advisor couldn't tell me which cylinder[s] and then told me the tech was busy. The 8 spark plugs I understand, but I could not understand why they could/would not say which cylinders were affected, keeping in mind that truck ran decently. If all 8 cylinders were bad, the engine wouldn't run. When I asked what the fuel system flush and treatment was supposed to fix, they declined to answer. I took the truck to a dealer and they replaced all spark plugs and the one bad coil-on-plug for ~$500. read more

Dropped the car off for an oil change and tire rotation. Courtesy service. I had my daughter use them a couple weeks ago. She was dripping oil and they diagnosed that it needed an oil sending unit. A few days ago I called this location to get a quote for a passenger side axle universal joint on my Ram 2500 replaced. (I am very mechanically inclined, but don't have my garage built yet, I had already diagnosed the problem. The u-joint was making noise while driving and under further inspection I found there to be about an eighth of an inch play at the u-joint.) Wilhelm quoted me a rough estimate of $410, I agreed and dropped my Truck off Sunday night for my Monday morning appointment. I was called around 9am by an employee stating that his technician has taken a look at it and didn't see any play in the u-joint, but did see that my whole front right side axle needed to be replaced. I assured him it did not need to be replaced and that there was in fact quite a bit of play in the u-joint. He said he would go check himself. He called me right back and told me it was a mix up with another vehicle. That he did see play in the u-joint but he still recommended a whole new axle because..... Wait for it.... THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS TO DO THE JOB HAHAHHA. This is exactly what they told me over the phone. So instead of me paying $400 for a simple u-joint replacement, they wanted me to spend more than double that so they could replace the whole axle... I will never recommend this place! read more

Got my car serviced for the first time here. Was going to get an alignment with my oil change and some other things. Also had a flat when I pulled up. They gave great service. They have a shuttle that can drop you off somewhere which was appreciated as I had to get to work. Mike called me to tell me the tire needed to be replaced but didn't try to upsell me on one of their us knowing it was newer and I could get it replaced where I bought it. Then discussed an alignment with a spare tire and some other things with the car that needed to be done and decided to hold off on that for now. What I appreciated was the upfront honesty they displayed and felt they wanted what was best for me and making sure I would be satisfied with the money spent. I will definitely be back to do business with them and highly recommend them. read more

I had a bad experience with another car repair place who had kept my car for two days without starting on it. I retrieved it and made an appointment at Wilhelm. Frankly, it was a long shot since I chose them because my Mother had gone to their 83rd and Grand location decades ago. I didn't know they even had a location in Surprise. Well, they completed my engine mount job, even took me into the garage to show me why they were needed, that same day. Wilhelm said I needed two while the other place said three were broken. They were fair and honest with me. I was treated with respect (a novelty for a woman at a car repair place) and would recommend this place to anyone who wants to be treated fairly and honestly....and at a good price! read more

I went in to have my truck looked at for a very specific thing. She told me they may need to do a test that cost $55 dollars. I asked if it was needed and she said no..Perfect, I said cool I DO NOT want that then. Just please checkout what i asked you to do. (took it in because it was over heating and wanted them to check the cooling system) She calls me, then she says and I quote "I took the liberty of spending your $55" So whatever, im not happy about it but i pay it without even saying anything. They tell me I need a brand new engine, and that it had nothing to do with the cooling system. Oh, the good piece is that it would ONLY cost like $4900 to get it fixed and they'd be more than happy to start on it today. On their reciept, it said i needed a new engine due to high miles...(140k) I took it to another spot, and they did what i asked and check out the cooling systems...and we fixed the problem my truck is back to running fine. (with the same engine that needed replaced) What a joke. read more

I have had good experiences here. I feel I am treated honestly each time, and given good information on which to base my decisions. They even turned me away once when I requested a diagnostic because they said they'd charge for the diagnostic and without even doing it they we're pretty sure the diagnostic would only tell them it was a repair that fell under warranty, thus the dealer should do both the diagnostic and repair for free (which was a correct assumption). I own an older Saturn and a newer Jeep and I get both serviced here, even though it's pretty far from where I live. Given the honest service they have provided me, and by not using typical fear tactics to push unnecessary repairs, I have recommended this place to my parents and their neighbors in SCW. Word of mouth is the best way to get customers... so keep up the good work, Wilhelm. read more

Brought my car in last week for a second look after a dealer diagnosis. I was concerned the dealer was overselling the need for repair, Wilhelmina confirmed nothing was needed. They got me in same day and shuttles me to/from, and beat or matched the dealer pricing on the other maintenance. ISSUE ONE: Took my 2007 Saturn Vue in to have the breaks done, they were due. I was advised that I also needed new rotors, okay...told them to replace them. Took the car home and after a few weeks it started to shake and vibrate like mad when at freeway speed. Took it back in and they could not find anything wrong with it and "could not duplicate the issue". A short time later the shaking and vibration continued so I took it back. They advised, "we are going to turn the rotors, not that they are an issue, but just to rule it out". They called me later and told me they were going to replace the rotors again because they were unable to turn them. Odd, since they were supposed to be brand new. Never had any of this shaking or vibration until they worked on it. Guess what, the vibrations are now back. ISSUE TWO: Same vehicle, AC was blowing warm air. I dropped it off and they called me later stating the compressor "split" and needed to be replaced. I approved the work and picked up the vehicle later that day. I had to take it back because they did not hook up the controls correctly and could not get it to switch to recirculate...okay, these things happen. With in a short period of time it started to blow warm air again, so I took it back while still under warranty and they had to replace that compressor again, it was bad. Less than a year later the second compressor went bad and I took it back in and they had to replace it AGAIN. Now that the weather is getting hot I turned on the AC and guess what, hot air! Needless to say I will not go back to Wilhelm for ANYTHING. read more

I contacted Wilhelm to complete a transmission service, alignment, and put on tires I had purchase somewhere else. I dropped it off and picked I up everything was fine (so I thought). The tire pressure lights came on shortly there after, so I contacted them. I had to go back the next morning which was a Saturday. I'm not sure if this is related to the service we had on Friday & the fix on Saturday, but Saturday night we went out & on the way home the truck started acting super weird- windshield wipers came on out of nowhere & wouldn't turn off, lights on the steering wheel would go from on to off, couldn't turn the hazards on, & the blinkers wouldn't work. Then, to add, the following week, my husband had to take one of the tires we had put on off & put the spare on because the valve stem they supposedly replaced broke! So, I had to take the tire back & then the next day have them put it on the truck. Hopefully nothing else happens. I would not recommend Wilhelm to anyone. The neighbors that referred us won't be going back, either. read more

On the day we planned to start driving from AZ to Oregon our car broke down in the Village Inn parking lot at breakfast. Wilhelm came to the Village Inn, looked at the car, figured out the problem and got it to their shop. They went above and beyond to get us out of town on schedule. They sent one of their own employees to pick up the part from the dealer and had the car fixed in 3 hours and for a reasonable price. Unbelievable service! My wife and I drive from Maine to Arizona twice a year. My car is a 2007 Highlander with 240,000 miles. On this trip our AC failed around Nebraska. When we got here I checked the reviews to figure out the shop to help. Wilhelm, I felt, had the best reviews so I set up an appointment and dropped it off in the morning. Probably an hour later I got the bad news. The estimate was $2000 to fix it properly. Mike, at the front desk, completely empathized with my dilemma. Do you spend that kind of money on a car with such high mileage?? He consulted with his mechanics for a cheaper solution with no luck. His advice for our long trek home was to unplug the compressor. As I understood it, if we didn't, other mechanical items might fail possibly leaving us stranded. No, Wilhelm did not fix our car but I trusted Mike's assessment. I have always been very happy with the work that they have done for me. This time was different. I brought my truck in because there was a strange noise. They said that it was the bearings and maybe something with the brakes (I'm a female and don't know all the right terms). It cost me around $750.00. The next day the noise was still there. So they checked it further and it was something with the air box and as long as the noise didn't drive me crazy, it did not have to be fixed. They repaired my car for a failure to start problem. The same problem occurred again in less than 20 miles of driving. The diyagnosed it as a problem that the dealer had to repair. They issued me a check for $400 plus dollars. This was the total cost of the repair and included parts as well as labor. They apologized for the misdiagnosis of the problem the firs time. I needed a 30K mile check for my Lexus RX350. The dealer's cost was so high I decided to look around. I was very impressed with Texas Dave who explained everything they would do for this servicing. It was exactly what the dealer quoted for $500 less! Of course, I was concerned about how the service experience would be but from the moment I checked in I was welcomed warmly by Nikki and again told what to expect from the service. Several hours later I left a happy driver! I will definitely use them again. This place treated me terrible! Didn't fix my car at all. I spent $220 and left with the same problem I showed up with. It ended up being a starter relay that needed replaced but apparently no one there was competent enough to figure it out. They changed my battery and called it a day(seriously)! Needless to say I'm never going back and I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more
