We came in on a Saturday morning around 8am. It wasn't overly busy, but more constant. We had a craving for pancakes but didn't want them as a meal. We ordered bacon and eggs breakfast along with chorizo and eggs. Both dishes came with hash browns and sourdough toast - when ordering we didn't get the choice to get tortillas with the chorizo. We eventually got them. We also got a side of chocolate chip pancakes and two medium coffees. The food was fine , I didn't think it was anything special , my friend said the chorizo was delicious. I have no complaints about the taste of the food . The service was not impressive at all. We stood around waiting for a table to be bussed and cleaned. We ended up bussing it ourselves. Then when the food was brought out , I felt like we were inconveniencing the kid that brought it out. In my opinion, the food was expensive. Not all of it, but a side of two chocolate chip pancakes was $9.95 .... Pancakes were not even that big. We also got a 12 donut holes for the kids @.50 each Breakfast for 2 = $54.00 plus $10.00 tip I was underwhelmed. Such an amazing place! For my last class at CSUF we were provided with donuts from this place and it is super yummy. The owner is such a nice guy and has a great selection of donuts. I was looking for a sandwich place, and found this one on YELP. I ordered the Club Sandwich to go, and the food certainly didn't disappoint! The portion was more than generous, and the price-$16.95- was incredibly reasonable. The fries were done exactly to my liking, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The young man who took my order, on the other hand, could not have been less interested in being there. His affect and lack of communication reminded me of my 13 year old son, whose responses consisted of grunts and one word answers. Looking at this small donut shop tucked away in a strip mall, you wouldn't expect them to have great breakfast burritos at first glance. When I walked in around 1pm, it was almost empty, but they're open from 6am-2pm, so I assume most of their traffic is a little earlier in the day. I noticed two of the customers called the lady working behind the counter by her name - it's always good to see places that have earned respect in their community. While I was waiting, one of them told me they've had just about everything on the menu and they love it here! You can choose from a list of different proteins (or even a veggie option), but I ended up getting a sausage breakfast burrito. Not only did it come out quick with friendly customer service, but it was also HUGE!!! It's loaded with cheese, eggs, hashbrowns, and a good amount of meat, too. Surfin' Donuts certainly has the reputation for being one of the best breakfast spots in town for good reason - they simply excel at everything they do. You really can't go wrong with any donut or burrito, as they're absolutely solid. Prices have gone up through time and it's admittedly more expensive than its competitors, but you're getting quality and value. I unfortunately recently had a subpar experience when I ordered a corned beef burrito one breakfast morning. The order took considerably long, and I'll admit they're a bit on the slow side in general when it comes to this, but it was unfortunate that it was nearly thirty minutes before I got my burrito and I was on a time crunch. Again, that's on me. What was disheartening was seeing a number of people who ordered after me get their burritos first, some quite considerably quickly, but I also get that the more standard breakfast orders are probably more prepped to go and can be whipped out much quicker. When I got the burrito, it was so floppy and had no structural integrity, which was disappointing. I normally like it to be a handheld meal, but it ended up being an open-faced breakfast on tortilla, and I didn't have nearly enough salsa to wash it down. It was certainly delicious, but I was pretty soured. I'll be back for sure, but I'll say this wasn't a great experience. The cashier was very rude to an older gentleman trying to order a cup of coffee. He kept trying to ask him where the cardboard heat sleeves were for his cup and the cashier just ignored him. I understand it can be hard to hear customers but there was no one else in that building. On top of that our order was wrong :(. Food was great but that interaction was enough to put us off. I'm surprised that this place is still rated as high as it is. Came here on Mother's Day to get a quick breakfast. You can usually tell when a restaurant is on the decline when they start storing kitchen equipment in the dining room. I'm also for teaching kids the entrepreneurial spirit but allowing them to set up a table to sell trinkets in the dining room is so tacky. Compared with a few years ago this place is really run down. One burrito will fill you up, and you may want to go halfsies with someone bc it's so large. I made the kid help me eat the steak burrito because there was no way I could polish it off by myself. I got my son a donut because duh he loves them and had to try them! My husband got the carne asada fries and I got the egg scramble combo. Everything was really good. My eggs were cooked just right and was mixed with onions, ham, bacon, and bell peppers. Side of hash-browns and choice of bread, which you can choose a corn tortilla! Came in on Saturday 8/28 and ordered a breakfast burrito only for it to take 25 mins while the drunk cook in the back was singing at the top of his lungs "punta this, and punta that". I wasn't the only customer wondering where their food was. Burrito was extremely mid and not worth the wait. My girlfriend came in the following weekend (because she forgot this was the place I told her about) and ordered a breakfast plate of some kind, waited forever, and when she finally got her food it was burned to the point of being stuck to the Styrofoam takeout box. Just wanted to mention this review is only based on the breakfast plates, my lesson has been learned and I'll stick to donuts and breakfast burritos from here. I ordered the breakfast plate and my husband ordered the biscuits and gravy (we used DoorDash) my husbands gravy was missing from his order and the egg preparation was wrong from what we asked for. My order the egg preparation was wrong as well, now here's where we actually had the problems. The biscuits were drier than the Sahara desert, it was like eating sand. I also have never had soggy hash browns till now, they could have used some salt as well because I had to douse them with tapatio to make them palatable. Mine looked like mashed potatoes in the middle.
