A great place to enjoy Korean barbeque and stone pot bibimbap! After reading some reviews, I gathered that the food was tasty but the service not quite up to scratch. But I must stress that my experience there with three other friends was completely different to that of previous review. The staff were very friendly and respectful, much like the custom in the far east.
Two of us, opted for course menu (A), at £16.99 per head, whilst the other two decided to go for their own starters and mains. The course menu included three starters to share, bibimbap each (not the stone pot variety) and a meat dish to share for mains. I should mention that this is a lot of food. The seafood pancake and the yangneom chicken were to die for! The fried chicken in particular was very moreish.
I should mention that we experienced no problems regarding the food coming out at different times unlike the other reviewer. Having said that, we did wait a little while between our starters and our mains. But we were kindly informed that this was because the barbequed meat was cooked from fresh for each order so it may take some time. This was quite alright with us as it was a welcome break from the big starters!
When the mains came, we were not disappointed. The meat was served on a sizzling plate which is always exciting and for food that has no MSG (flavour enhancers) it was very flavourful. The pork in particular, although it had no sauce of its own, had been marinated in something special, as it got the senses rolling in my tongue. Very nice.
I would definitely go again and would recommend it to those who haven't tried Korean food yet. In all honesty, I had a rather different experience to the other reviewers who had gone before me, a lot of whom mention that they went on the opening night. It seems Surakhan has ironed out the problems and is on its way to becoming something special.
If I have any suggestions to the restaurant, it would be that they try to source some Korean beers. They have a great selection of Asian beers, ranging from Laos to Japan, but no Korean. Also it's very much a meat orientated restaurant, although vegetarian options are available. But the meat on offer is sumptuous! read more
