Well now, where do I begin? This dentist is in my network and I primarily chose it because of the…read morereviews on the different sites. But what I didn't realize was that the reviews are years old. Nonetheless, I thought I was scheduled with Dr. Vacarean, the prosthodontist, but instead, I was scheduled with the general dentist, Dr. Young, for a cracked tooth. After figuring all  that out when I got there, it just went downhill. I decided to see the general dentist because I was already there and the front desk convinced me that he was very good, with all of this experience. Dr. Young and his hygienist said they did NOT see any cracks on my x-ray (from my regular dentist). However, he was very proud to note that he saw plaque and questioned the last time I had my teeth cleaned. (It had been 6 WEEKS, and I go twice a year religiously). He was a bit arrogant. He then said that I did NOT have a cracked tooth and that if I did, I'd have constant pain and couldn't take it. Well, he is WRONG!! This isn't my first cracked tooth and like before, I had pain sporadically. I know my mouth. He advised that I get a 2nd opinion from Dr. Vacarean. I set the appointment, then canceled because I didn't want any parts of that arrogance and wrong diagnosis. Good luck to anyone that chooses to go there!

I was very nervous about the entire process, but especially since I haven't been in so long. I worried I would be made to feel terrible about neglecting my teeth. Instead, everyone was extremely nice to me. No one made me feel bad about how long it's been and everyone went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable and knew what was going on. It wasn't the traumatic experience I had as a kid at all. I had to get a deep cleaning done over two appointments and my hygienist and her assistant were top notch. Again, didn't make me feel embarrassed about the state of my teeth or how long it has been. I didn't have any cavities and everything went really well! I got to speak to or otherwise interact with 3 of the dentists there and really liked 2 of them. I didn't dislike the 3rd, he just felt a little less experienced. Pricing was good here as well.

During a "routine cleaning," my general dentist saw symptoms of an abscessed tooth, and referred me to Endodontic Excellence. They were able to get me on their schedule quickly for a consultation. I did have some initial confusion where I thought it was a one day thing, but that was because my general dentist incorrectly told me this. I thankfully was not in pain with my abscess, and I think that is why my procedure was not same day. I understand needing to reserve opening for true emergencies. Dr. Wang did my root canal (a first for me), and Alexa was her wonderful assistant. Alexa and I talked a bit before the procedure, which relaxed me. I was offered headphones to listen to music versus dental equipment, but declined them as I wear hearing aids and headphones will cause them to squeal. Honestly, I enjoyed listening to Dr. Wang and Alexa throughout the procedure. They have a wonderful, respectful relationship with each other, and the procedure when very smooth. I also was amused by Alexa telling Dr. Wang all the pop culture updates. I believe having a great rapport with the staff is the sign of an excellent physician. The office is very clean and all of the staff friendly and kind. And while I hope I do not another root canal in the future, if I do I know I will be in great hands.

So i paid the deposit, had my old dentist forward my records, and spent over an hour completing all the on-line forms for their office. When I showed up to appointment, they presented me with this HUGE bill to pay before they do anything. When I reminded them about the insurance verification and filing, I was told they did not know how much would be refunded to me by insurance so I would have to pay and then wait to see. He has gradually added more staff. The first Hygienist was Mary N. She has cleaned my teeth since she started there. About 4 times now. Friendly, extremely competent and makes you genuinely feel comfortable and relaxed while she gives your teeth and mouth a comfortable house cleaning. My only complaint would be the Ice water rinse after the application of the polishing agent. Although it was cold, it was refreshing and I left alert and more aware of my surroundings than when I arrived. Dr Tenney did his usual gentle probing inspection afterward and found no cavities. Of course there was no "up-sale" for whitening programs, and whatever might be the latest money making "ad on's" that most dental offices hit you with. Just the usual and customary plastic bag with a new toothbrush, travel paste and plastic flossing tools. By the way, there are now 4 hygienist and several receptionist and Dr Tenney. I LIKE them all and they are all nice but I expect more (the other office I came from in another state I feel like they went above and beyond and they were just amazing with the kids, over here it doesn't feel that way). BUT we do really love Dr. Whittington. He is patient, gentle and kind and explains everything to both the kid and the parent! My 3 year old isn't the easiest to deal with and she didn't want to sit in the patient's chair so he had her sit on my lap and lie back on a tilted board and she did great that way and he was able to brush, polish and get the fluoride varnish without her being mad! That is a win in my book.
