Great service from the family owners and good pizza. The prices are comparable to other pizza spots…read morein town and if you like a medium thickness crust, rich sauce and lots of toppings definitely try it out

Coming from Pictou County, I know a thing or two about pizza fanaticism. Anyone that moves away…read morefrom here will bemoan the lack of our beloved pizza, especially if we have a drink or two in us, which has the dual effect of making us both hungry and nostalgic. There's a couple other areas in the province, primarily Truro and Sydney/Cape Breton, whose expats extol the virtues of their native pies. I'm likely not going to make it up to Cape Breton anytime soon, but I had been looking to try Truro pizza while going to or from New Glasgow. After a couple failed starts due to either me forgetting or places opening later in the day on Sundays, I was recently able to give it a go. Looking to just grab a slice, I hit up Pizza Farm under the advice of a friend who grew up here. The slice of pep and cheese was a good size, about a quarter of a 12" pizza, and came in at a reasonable $4.50. It  looked normal enough, certainly nothing along the lines of the unique brown sauce of Pictou County pizza. The cheese seemed to be a bit more generous than the generic Halifax pizza shops, and the crust somewhere between Halifax's and PC's in thickness.  Taking a bite, it instantly reminded me of the Mia's Pizza shop that used to be in New Glasgow. The sauce was on the sweet side, but not as cloying as some sweet sauces in the city, while the bread also had the hint of sweetness that Mia's had. Despite being a slice in a warmer before the supper rush, the crust was still crispy and had a pleasant chew to it. The crust was was definitely given more attention than it is in Pictou County, where it is unfortunately often just an afterthought only counted on for being thick enough to handle all of the sauce and cheese.  The cheese even had the same sort of short stringiness that Mia's had, as opposed to the long swathes of mozzarella on pizzas a little further north. The pepperoni seemed to be a run of the mill pepperoni, not Brothers, but of reasonable quaity. All in all, it was a decent slice of pizza. But are people mailing these pizzas across the country, or national grocery stores selling the pizza sauce? No. While the story may be different for a different pizza joint, or type of toppings, I think it's safe to say that some locals' claims that they have better pizza and their expats are as fervent as PCP lovers, just don't hold up. However, it's still better than the sad efforts of the local chains of mediocrity in Halifax, and I'd have no qualms in eating it again.
