The technician who arrived was a different person. He arrived at approximately 9:30 AM and finished cleaning up and removing the old heater around 11:22 AM (under two hours on site). After the work was completed, I was presented with an invoice for over $800 based on 4 hours of "port-to-port" billing that had never been mentioned when the job was scheduled. When I questioned the extremely high bill, the technician first said it included an hour of travel time. I pointed out the company is about 20 minutes away. He then said the charge also included time loading his truck, even though I had purchased the water heater and he did not need to bring any major parts for the installation. While preparing the invoice, the technician spent about 15 minutes on the phone. I then personally called Charlie (the person I originally spoke with). During that conversation, Charlie stated a half hour port-to-port travel charge should apply, but no port-to-port billing had ever been disclosed when the job was scheduled. Charlie said he would call the technician. After that conversation, the technician returned with a revised invoice for 3.5 hours totaling over $600. Because I was quoted an hourly rate based on the time it took, I paid for two hours of labor based on the quoted hourly rate, even though the work itself took less than two hours. After mentioning the situation to a neighbor, they told me they had a similar experience with this company involving unexpected travel charges. If you consider using this company, make sure you get all pricing and billing policies in writing beforehand -- or better yet, save yourself the stress and money.
