Bonez Garage

Not only when working on high end classic hot rods but also everyday vehicles too. The shop/office manager is friendly and super helpful. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone in need of a full restoration or just brakes and an oil change. And for those who think the prices are too high... trust me when I tell you... you get what you pay for. With Bonez Garage you're paying for expertise, knowledge and... peace of mind!

Long story short/first impression: BONEZ garage is a…read moresuper-quality, A+ establishment. Everyone I encountered there was very friendly and impressively knowledgeable. Instantly I trusted them with my vehicle like I trust my doctor with my body. They feel like more than just professionals. The family vibe was strong. Short story long... I come from a long line of auto enthusiasts. My grandfather was a General Motors man. He drove Bonneville's from the late 50's up until 1973 when he bought an avocado green Buick LeSabre. Some people call those the sad years for American cars but all I have are great memories of being a small kid and falling asleep in the back seat on family road trips. I can still see and feel the warmth of the amber dome light and that floaty couch energy that made every drive feel special. When my favorite uncle got out of the army in the late 70's, he bought a black '79 Camaro Berlinetta with burgundy interior and I count that as the first car I officially fell in love with. We spent many Saturday afternoons washing and detailing his symbol of accomplishment and prosperity and I really learned the value of pride in ownership. By the time the 1980's came around, most people in the family had defected to Japanese imports-which definitely held their own allure-but I never lost my love of classic Americana. When I got to college in the early 90's I was fortunate enough to have my first personal experience with vintage: a 1960 Buick Invicta. I never felt more alive than I did behind the wheel of that car. I've had many wonderful experiences on the road and the most common and essential thread is that I have always had great mechanics to keep me running. I was brought up in the culture of respecting people who work on cars and I have always been in awe of the ones who genuinely love what they do and are really good at it. That's what I get from Bonez. They love what they do. They're fair. They're honest. They look you in the eye. Recently I bought an '84 K5 Chevy Blazer Silverado and I'm SO HAPPY that I've found a place that will help me maintain one of my dream machines. I saw the Bonez 1970 Cadillac hearse driving around several years ago and I always said that someday I'd have a reason to need them. I'm happy that day is here. I'm excited to bring my restoration vision to life and what's really cool is that I can tell they're excited for me and with me. This place is 10's across the board!

The Engine Shop - 358 DIRT Modified

The Engine Shop

Well where do I start... took my 3000gt heads over to this shop in order to be resurfaced. Decided…read moreto pay $100 extra for the shop owner, "the professional", to put in some things while the heads were already taken apart, making it easier on me. This included the valve stem seals, cam shaft seals and lifters. All very easy tasks to do while the cams are off and heads are apart. As simple as sliding something out and putting a new part right back in. Fast forward a bit. I take the heads home after he is finished with the work. Didn't notice anything at first until me and my buddy started putting my engine together a week later. We then realized that quite a few nuts, bolts, and one cam oil seal were missing. Not having this seal would cause a major oil leak. the nuts, bolts, and cam seal, weren't too big of a deal because I knew I could buy more but on top of all that, he swapped 2 of my cam shafts (exhaust and intake ) which would be a catastrophic result if I were to start my engine. Luckily I caught it. instead of causing an issue I decided to just call the next day to see if he had the missing items...No bolts but sure enough had my cam seal still. He Never once mentioned he had my seal until I called him. So I keep calm and go pick it up. When I go pick it up he greets me with a pack of my upgraded lifters that I asked him to put in as well and claimed I bought too many. I told him that I bought the right amount, But again I took it lightly and went home to double check to make sure I didn't miss calculate. Had to check all 24 lifters again and sure enough he completely missed a row of 6 old lifters! Again he did not mention having anything of mine that was left over until I went back a week later. Running 2 different bore sizes in lifters will cause uneven wear on the cam lobes which will result in many problems later on. To sum it up. He Lost hardware, kept my parts that were supposed to be replaced, proceeded not to tell me about them, owns up to the mistakes when confronted but will not refund the measly $100 of "extra" work that could've caused so many issues if not caught that I had to completely redo anyway. Should've asked for the full refund being that the easiest tasks were all messed up and now having to hope the machining was at least done correctly. but that hope is just about lost. Fair warning, I'd suggest going elsewhere
