She has a wheelchair and I was happy to see the paths around us were all paved, so we were able to push her along them easily. We didn't venture onto any paths with elevation; the main path we chose followed the river and there were lots of areas to walk down to get a close up view or even wade if inclined. The path was shady also which was nice. I loved seeing the waterfall by the river right by the parking lot. This was a great time and I'd definitely return to explore some more paths or take a longer trek.

Last summer we fished below the Loudon TN dam and caught a bunch of huge strippers and a few white bass, and we didn't think it could ever get better than that first experience, well it did! Because the dam was spilling, Ty told us we would have to go to plan B. When I heard this I was a little concerned, but it tuned out to be an amazing experience! We immediately caught a few medium strippers, and then started catching BIG catfish and BIG drum. As that slowed down, we move to another site and started catching BIG bass - large mouth, small mouth, and white bass. All could have been keeper! There were times we had three fish on at the same time and Ty was just as excited as we were! Not only is he a great guide, he loves to fish, and is a genuinely a good guy! The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

Started railroad on this and other lines when they were working railroads at 28 years of age. He had a lot of stories and railroad history about this area and others. I took the Hiwassee Loop trip. Most of the workers on the train, conductors and hosts were all retired railroad workers. The engineer was retired United Airlines pilot who got his train engineer license after he retired. Excellent historic narration along the way. I cannot recommend this trip enough. 4.5 hours up Bald Mountain along the Hiwassee River. But, again, best part was my 45 minute conversation with the 88 year old flagman.

There's a visitor's center, many miles of hiking, picnic areas, primitive camping, fishing, boating, and canoeing. We arrived and went white water rafting with a third party on the rapids. These rivers were the site of the Olympic water sports in 1996. We then went to the visitors' center, and then drove around the campground, then the scenic byway to some gorgeous overlooks. Definitely stunning and worth the visit. I wanted to do a little hike while I dried off from the rafting, but there wasn't really a clear map of the trails in the area with the mileage and difficulty like at every other park we've been to. Other than that, we really enjoyed out time here.

It's not strenous and the rewards of the views after a short walk are well worth it. I visited when it was raining and so it wasn't the best view, but it was still gorgeous. I also went on the Obed River Point Trail (3.6-mile out-and-back). You have to cross some streams using rocks, and there's also a wood bridge. The trail has a hidden arch rock to your right as you approach the end of the trail, but it's small and there's a reason why they don't mark it as it's not dramatic haha. Towards the end of the trail there's a lot of small social off shoot trails, but the main trail is wider than the others. Near the end of the trail there's a marker and then an end point marker. Neat trail!

For those needing a mostly flat path with maintained gravel surface, try the upper parking lot trailhead. It is easily recognized by the huge Obed sign at the parking lot entrance. For a more uphill and challenging experience, take one of the trailheads from either of the bridge parking areas below the bluff. Pictures: 1) Lily Bluff Overlook platform -- an extensive platform to make access safe and manageable for everyone while also protecting the natural elements of the bluff. 2) The view from Lily Bluff Overlook 3) The hike up -- this picture shows the start of the trail up to Lily Bluff from the bridge parking area. The hike is all uphill with stone and wooden stairs, and roots. It is a beautiful, fun, and enjoyable hike.

Right up the road from Bald River Falls, in the Cherokee National Forest- there is a parking area…read morejust past the falls on the left with bathrooms. If you are making the drive in to Bald River falls, just go the extra little bit to make it to baby falls. Latitude : 35.327531 and Longitude : -84.176742. I would guess it's about a half mile up the road. Baby Falls is a 15 foot drop of a waterfall along the Tellico River. We actually saw white water kayakers just up river from these falls. With the recent storm, the waters of the Tellico River were raging and had plenty of white water adventurers and some fishing too! When we stopped for a photo op, there was no one parked at the lot. We had plenty of time to walk around and site see and only saw another car pulling in as we were leaving. I love waterfalls- this year my other half had major foot surgery and is still recovering- so finding falls that are right off the road was the goal. I love hiking, but for those who can't- this is a great alternative! Two falls, back to back from each other. Not to mention plenty of amazing views of the river that runs parallel to the road! Get your nature time in!
