This is the saddest mall that I have ever seen. I think other malls should consider suing it to…read moreforce them to stop using the word "mall" on the building and exterior signs, it's doing such a disservice to other enclosed shopping centers. The list of retailers is an Anytime Fitness, a mediocre Mexican restaurant, a Tupperware pop-up store, an H&R block outlet, and a nail salon. It did appear that there were a couple places in the Food Court that would reopen eventually, but I don't know who would even bother coming in to get as far as these eateries. Altogether sad and foreboding view of American retail for the future.

I am reviewing Miracle Mile Shopping Center for sentimental reasons. I recently dined at Denny's…read morenext door to this plaza. Although it deems itself as the oldest shopping centre in Rochester, it's really a plaza. It was established in 1952 and there was a major fire in 1971. I'm happy to report that these events were both well before my time! I dropped by this plaza a handful of times as a resident of Rochester. There used to be a gift shop that sold Midwest of Cannon Falls s'mores characters. I bought a few of these characters as Christmas ornaments and a larger one that was a lamp. They are still with me to this day, but this company folded, as did this gift shop. Cannon Falls is maybe a twenty-minute drive northwest of Rochester. I don't recognize that town since I moved away. It's the same about Miracle Mile. Hom Furniture is one of two businesses that rings a bell. There's a new grocery store called Fresh Thyme Market. I exited Highway 52 and you can't miss this supermarket's large sign from it. I'd estimate that there are roughly thirty businesses in this plaza. Olmsted Medical Center is still kicking around, which is the other place that has endured. This plaza is perfect for folks who live close by and don't want the bustling feel of being downtown. This shopping plaza is roughly two blocks away from the Mayo Clinic's St. Mary's Campus. There is plenty of parking at Miracle Mile. I'll need to check this plaza out more closely when I'm back again and it's not my final full day in Minnesota, especially Fresh Thyme Market. It was quite the flashback heading over here. There's only a handful of actual stores there, and most of the brands/stores they have on the sign outside aren't there anymore. A good chunk of the closed storefronts have signs still up, briefly giving the illusion the mall isn't so vacant. The outlets I did go in really didn't offer much in the way of variety or discounts. I was there mid-day on a weekday and the space with the mall offices was dark with the lights out, they weren't even keeping the mall offices open and staffed apparently. The place is starting to look falling apart and decrepit. There are no real food options at this mall. No food court, no restaurants. . .just a McDonalds next to the mall. I wonder what is even keeping the place open, there's no way that with just a handful of stores this place should still manage to even stay open.

Although it is open 7 days a week, there are less than 30 stores, and in my opinion, only one restaurant that looks worthy of dining at. All shops and restaurants are located underneath UMR between Broadway and 1st Ave., and is within walking distance of Mayo Clinic and a few other neighboring hotels. I'm not clear on where the parking area is, however, parking is free at night and on weekends. Check this place out anyway. Your opinion might differ.

The store is tidy and clean. There was no merchandise on the floor and no stock waiting to be shelved. Most of the racks were stocked properly and while I found what I was looking to purchase, some items were out of stock (supply chain issues?). Checkout was quick and easy. Disclaimer: I don't like malls…read more That said, River Hills Mall is pretty good. It's all on one level, so it feels a bit sprawling, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. No heights or vertigo or people throwing stuff (or other people) from balconies is a plus in my strange book. The carousel was a bit disappointing, smaller than I had imagined. Nonetheless, cool that there's a merry go round in a mall, even if I am a little too heavy to ride it. (120 pound weight limit.) Ok, a lot too heavy, gosh! It's fairly stylish and nice to wander around and get some steps in. Maybe you'll find something to buy or eat or a movie to watch. The highlight of our day at the mall, besides walking around to take a break from driving, was ending up the sporting goods store, Scheels, and buying a whole bunch of fudge there. The irony was not lost on me.

We were all very surprised at how much we enjoyed this mall.
