Not bad with all things considered. It was pretty clean. I love that they took out all the carpet. It has tile floors now. It was run but a small family who were very nice. It would stay there again.

The place smells of smoke, even in the non-smoking rooms and is dirty. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Super nice and clean rooms and common spaces. Very friendly staff. Service was amazing. The rooms and the entire hotel had a new smell. Easy to check in/out. They have coffee/tea available 24/7. There's a great indoor and outdoor space for sitting. These are also great spaces for when indulging in the free breakfast. The breakfast is an amazing value and it is tasty. Yogurt, fruit, cereal, waffles, bagels, toast, eggs, sausage, biscuits/gravy, coffee, tea, premade omelette... so many options! All the condiments and such are also provided. This alone is a fantastic deal!! The staff that were restocking and keeping things going were very friendly too. Very comfortable room. Nice bed/pillows. There's plenty of storage. A desk, a chair w/side table, fridge, iron, closet, and bathroom with all the toiletries included. Super cute decor and all local places in the art! Super cute. Hampton Inn is just a spectacular value for such lovely comfort, service, and convenience. Would for sure come back and would highly recommend.

There are 5 Tesla chargers in the parking lot and if you don't have an adapter, don't worry, just ask inside. We upgraded to a more spacious room for just a few dollars more and it was definitely worth every cent. Clean and spacious with a whisper quiet AC. No Red Hot Moments at this cold as you want room. Breakfast was elevated in its offerings and the employees were very helpful and friendly. They even have a 4 for $15 beer special. The best was the private dog park. This hotel thinks of everything. In the sea of hotel mediocrity, if I could give 6 stars I would.

Excellent handicap room amenities- high toilet seat, high and low peep holes in the door, lots of built in bars near toilet and in bath, a portable bath tub seat, and a low shower head holder. Also, rods w/ handles to open/close curtains. If not handicapped and tall... no issues... but my 5' 1.5" wife had a bugger of a time getting off the toilet... her feet didn't touch the floor! SLOW Wi-Fi. Stick with LTE, it's faster. Room itself was very comfortable... Keurig with coffee and green tea pods, sofa, writing desk, refrigerator, microwave, tv, comfy bed. But, not a $600 value as indicated by the "room cost" placard on the room door. What's the point of ludicrous $ indicators on those placards. Even the hotel website had the room for $109. I've never seen a reasonable value indicated... is it for insurance purposes, maybe?

Alpine Motel - View as we were leaving early morning

Alpine Motel

I always wanted to spend a night in the Alpine, but having grown up a mere twelve miles from here,…read morethere was no need to. But my partner and I just returned from a trip that included two nights at what I believe is now Abingdon's oldest motel, and we were quite charmed. The Alpine consists of about twenty rooms fanning out from a central office. The Swiss couple who built the place in the early Sixties named it for the landscape they had left, and indeed its hilltop perch near old U.S. 11 leading into the town of Abingdon makes it a very pretty site with views of Virginia's tallest mountains. The motel grounds are nicely landscaped, great for picnics or just watching the sun rise and set, and a haven for birds. Hard to believe that down the hill from the Alpine are the full complement of chain motels, eateries, gas stations, and Interstate 81 (north to Roanoke, south toward Knoxville, TN). We were aware that a superhighway exists down there, but the noise was not obtrusive. As others have said, the rooms are large and solid -- gave me a shock to see how standard motel rooms have shrunk since about 1980. Very clean rooms, solid, comfortable, modern. I have about two-and-a-half complaints about the Alpine that kept me from giving it five stars: (1) the phone in my room didn't work (this may not matter much to folks who use their cell for everything). (2) The lone soft-drink machine was broken . . . plenty of ice, but no sodas at all. I ran across a motel a few years ago with the same problem, and the office simply sold us soft drinks. (3) The "Continental" breakfast was meager, mostly coffee and mini-muffins. Even so, and at this price, the Alpine is still a "find"! For those who enjoy a full breakfast, a Cracker Barrel and a Huddle House are right on the way to I-81. It would be wrong of me not to add that Abingdon is home to the venerable Barter Theater, a legitimate performance venue that is the 'State Theater of Virginia.'

On the positive side it's clean and a step back in time. On the other side the AC, bed, mattress,…read moreTV and other elements are bare minimum and need replaced. If you want a no frills cheap clean room this would work but don't look for a coffee maker or more than one little bar of soap. Probably would not stay again but the look is neat as a step back in time to a 1950's motor lodge
