I have asked over 3-4 years about their ability to scan at this resolution (2400dpi 48bit color…read moretiff) -- and in EACH case they had confirmed. There is also a confirmation of doing higher resolutions and larger sized photographs beyond 5x7inch. However when my father went to the shop - they could not proceed.
-- "We can scan up to 8" wide x 11" deep."
-- "We can scan to 2400dpi, or higher such as 3600 if you wish."
-- "we can only scan a sheet size of A4 at that resolution. (8-1/4 x 11-3/4 in)"
-- "So, yes we can provide this service & we will give you a quote for the whole job whether it's 6x4 or 8x10's rather than individual."
Two weeks ago - with this confirmation - my father walks into the shop with the same specs -- and walks out with 1200dpi scans. It was hard for my father to get these photographs -- he himself is 72, he had to visit a 79 year old with early dementia -- then head down to Longfield to get these photos off the sister - she was hesitant to give them to him cause its her only copies etc.. he picked them up from the shop yesterday and gave them back to her in panic/fear of upsetting her.

Hi,
I would like to get various items scanned in at a high 2400dpi 48bit color tiff resolution -- I believe you can cater for this in previous conversations.

Good afternoon
That's correct, though its worth pointing out that we can only scan a sheet size of A4 at that resolution.

As they will be high quality scans, we will need to allow a fair a bit of time, a week or so.
------------------
When my father went to the shop - there was a complete breakdown on the ability to do these high resolution scans (2400dpi 48bit color tiff) - current technology does allow it, and in the days where we have 4kHD and 8kHD - its going to become a more common request.
"The Epson 4490 scanner comes with a disc containing their software and its that which dictates what can or cannot be scanned. We have no need to obtain additional software given our customer requirements."
This scanner is over 10 years old. There is software called SilverFast 8, that comes with the latest scanners that can unlock this limitation that they have themselves settled with. I even offered to pay for the software in the hope it wasn't too late to rescan these items back in, but my father had already returned them to the owner.
When I complained about this and showcased all the emails confirming -- all the misinformation - I just feel I am met with a lot of self-excuse talk and mediocrity settling. I was also met with passive aggressive ignore my email tactics for 2 weeks until I called them out on wanting and expecting a reply.
There are scanning shops - that can scan your items out there without these resolution restrictions. There are places that will also offer you better customer experience and satisfaction.
