My parents were looking to move into an independent living community to lessen the burden of…read morecooking, cleaning, and home maintenance, as well as increasing their social involvement. We toured eight different facilities in Boise and the Garden Plaza of Valley View was by far their favorite. We actually didn't have an appointment and just stopped in to see if we might be able to talk to someone - Pam welcomed us with open arms and gave us a very thorough tour. They joined the waiting list, and moved in a few months later when a space opened up. At this point it has only been a few weeks since their move, but they are extremely happy and we've noticed a difference in their health already, especially with Mom. Her speech and walking have both improved, and we credit the Garden Plaza with that. She has 3 regular meals a day, social interaction, walks more, and she doesn't have the pressures that came with owning and caring for a full-sized home. My folks tell us every day how nice everyone is, from the staff to the residents. They wish they had made the move years ago and say everyone they talk to says the same thing. (Better late than never!) I liken it to living on a land-based cruise ship - all their meals and utilities are included, their unit is cleaned weekly (including towels and linens), there are tons of activities, there's transportation to get them around town, and everything is bundled under one price so they don't have to keep track of a ton of bills (or even this one - they're set up on auto-pay)! It's so nice that my teenage daughter wanted to move there after getting a tour. To say it's been life-changing is an understatement. My parents are thrilled, my siblings and I are thrilled, and a huge load has been lifted from all of us. Since I don't live in Boise, it's an enormous comfort to know they're happy and that people are checking in on them daily. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Pam Dillman and all the wonderful staff and residents at the Garden Plaza of Valley View! (Oh, and there's an AMAZING bakery in the lobby - try the blueberry lemon cake.)

I also took care of my sweet Aunt until her Dementia became debilitating. Both my father and my aunt went to two separate places in California for their Care. I was so unimpressed and had to actually move my Aunt to another place. Neither of the facilities had an RN on staff or PT. Garden Plaza of Valley View has BOTH! Every time I visit, they are doing something Special for their residents. They even built a Bakery so that the residents can visit and have a sweet treat. If you are considering special care for a loved one, take a tour with Melanie. She is personable and understands how important this transition is for everyone in the family. The Company is locally owned, I believe this makes a difference.

I broke my leg so bad I needed to stay in a "skilled nursing facility" for a period. Roommate was…read moreaccommodating, CNAs were virtually always available for call and took care of me with gentle hands and respect. The floor was being recovered with vinyl planking that was very cheap and began falling apart soon after installation. Beds seemed like they were from another era but worked mostly. Mine had to be replaced. Some of the other equipment seemed cheap and old. Food was OK but too repetitive. Everything tasted the same. Delivery was timely but never hot - just warm enough to eat most of the time. Deserts were very plain. Physical and Occupational Therapy (PT/OT) was daily and well received. I think this helped me get out of a nursing home. This place was kept clean and sterile with daily room cleanings. I couldn't smell odors when entering the building (like I've smelled in other nursing homes). We were bathed twice weekly and by request when it could be worked in. The activities department left a lot to be desired. I was asked about my hobbies and interests and offered a tablet and maybe a lap guitar. I never saw the guitar, but the Activities Director caught Covid-19 just after I was admitted. A daily newsletter with a bingo page and a weekly activities agenda was delivered but nothing else was brought around to my room or offered. I left as soon as I could, and I wanted out in a bad way. That meant getting administrative help to prepare my home and making sure I was prepared physically. The administration did not succeed in preparing my house, but PT/OT made sure I was prepared. My overall perception of this place is uncomfortable. Cheap furnishings, food, flooring, utensils, etc. make the place seem like the administration is trying to get more money for the corporate stakeholder than comfort for the customer. Administration needs to make sure the customer is happy a through their stay. My final word is about the nurses. Most nurses here a kind and respectful. A few in my opinion step out of line once in a while. All of the nurses put the "general" nursing work below them. None of them would do anything but push pills and log. When I needed to talk to a nurse, most times I could expect at least a 20-to-30-minute delay. That may not seem like much but when in pain, every minute counts. I was told by administrative staff that it's so hard to get nurses hired and the working nurses use that to their advantage. This place obviously has changed from 2018. Things are better but don't expect this place to be a 5-star nursing home.

When it became clear it was her last days, they moved her to a private room so her family could visit her more often in privacy. We couldn't ask for a better nursing staff or facility. She loved being able to buy things from the store with points she received for participating in activities and therapy. I liked that they motivated her to participate in things that were good for her.

Workplace and Resident Care Concerns -- Wellsprings Health and Rehab of Cascadia…read more I would not recommend this facility based on serious concerns about employee treatment, management responsiveness, staffing, and resident safety. One particularly troubling concern involves reports of a pregnant employee being required to work with chemicals and facing disciplinary action for taking additional pregnancy-related breaks. These concerns deserve a serious response from leadership, including a review of chemical exposure, medical restrictions, and the employee's need for breaks. Pregnancy should never be treated as an inconvenience or a reason to disregard an employee's health. Many people cannot afford to stop working during pregnancy. Needing an income should not mean having to choose between keeping a job and protecting one's health. There are also reports of employees being pressured to work despite medical restrictions and physician instructions. One employee reportedly felt compelled to leave after management failed to accommodate those restrictions. If accurate, these accounts raise serious questions about how the facility handles employees' medical needs. Communication and accountability are additional concerns. Employees who raise safety issues should receive a timely, respectful response. Reports of concerns being dismissed, inconsistent disciplinary practices, and favoritism undermine confidence in leadership and discourage staff from speaking up. Concerns about resident care--including reported unsafe transfers, medication-handling issues, adherence to physician orders, and inadequate staffing--also warrant careful investigation. Staffing shortages can place significant pressure on employees and affect the care residents receive. Employees deserve safe working conditions, fair treatment, and respect for documented medical needs. Residents deserve compassionate care, appropriate staffing, and consistent attention to safety. I encourage prospective employees to ask direct questions about these issues before accepting a position. Families considering this facility should carefully evaluate staffing, care practices, and how leadership responds to concerns. Families with loved ones already residing here should remain involved, document specific concerns, and consider other care options if those concerns remain unresolved. These concerns deserve a thorough review and meaningful corrective action from leadership.

The house administrators don't do their jobs and leave most of the responsibilities on 18-20-year-olds who barely have proper training or experience with real caregiving. These are residents who deserve experienced, attentive care, and instead the workload gets dumped on young, overwhelmed staff while management stays in the office or disappears. When concerns are voiced or when staff ask for help to protect the residents and themselves, management doesn't listen or try to fix anything. Instead, they jump straight to threats or firing. There's no support, no accountability, and no true leadership -- just blame being pushed down onto the caregivers who are already doing more than they should. Residents deserve real care. Staff deserve proper training, leadership, and respect. Brightstar, especially at Prickly and Summerset, fails at all of that.
