Plus this visit we saw a couple birds nearby too. This first area is full of the assortment of Knick knacks that can keep you enthralled for days looking at! Gift ideas for all the people in your life and yourself. Then mosey on back into the greenhouse areas where you can find tools, dirt, fertilizer, garden pond chemicals and building supplies. Plus plant pots that will make you want to create the oasis of your dreams. The plants! Can I even skim the surface of the variety and fullness of the plant selection they have. I personally adore looking at the succulents and cacti, but I got kids so... haha I love the beautiful flowers and plant pot stuffers. So many ideas and inspiration. This visit I saw tons of hanging bags of flowers, so trendy! They also had wild and beautiful new flowers I've never heard or seen before. We also saw some of my favourite greens- food! The huge array of pepper plants and tomatoes were just starting to arrive and I loved it all. Then when you head finally to towards the till you go past canned good delights and fresh produce. Plus did I mention you can find a huge array of chicken decor? (Maybe that's just my thing lol) This visit I treated myself to a Japanese Air purifying plant called a Crispy Wave! Top it off with kind staff, they noticed my little one and didn't hesitate to pick a marigold flower for them to take home.

Lots of wonderful purchases from this local greenhouse over the years. How I haven't posted a…read morereview yet, I'm not sure. Every time I've shopped here for myself or with others, I leave feeling like I've found more than what I thought I needed (great for any gardener to feel that happiness and this was certainly true on my most recent visit). If you're looking for seeds, plants, ready to eat veggies & fruit, various garden maintenance items, home & garden accessories or decor items, this is a great place to shop. If you're on a time or budget limit, you might need to go in with someone else to help you focus and cover more ground. There's always a lot to look at and if you go often enough, there's even a stamp card to fill up (I won't go into the details, as another yelper explained that really well already). The last visit I'm recalling (in Aug 2021), I noticed they had a decent discount on remaining vegetables, herbs and flowers for your garden. To a point it distracted me from my original mission of buying veggies for my upcoming meals. Well only a little... as I bought some lovely mature herbs of basil, stevia and chives to add to my patio garden. I stocked up on the veggies I went there for but made a note to myself about the cases of BC fruit. I'm writing this review now as I forgot it in drafts and found it again when sharing this location with relatives and friends. Most recently my Aunt picked up potatoes from there (Oct 2021), so the food area is still available as well as all the neat extra things closer to the tills. Parking lot is large enough one wouldn't struggle to find a spot, it's flat and it's paved. The entrance/exit is both flat, making it welcoming for all levels of mobility. The signs could be a bit more strategically placed so one actually goes into the right greenhouse area for plants, types of flowers, veggies & fruit (fruits & veggies were at the far end of the connecting greenhouses but in the past years the veggies & fruit were close to the exit & tills). I also passed a lot of staff in the greenhouse but no one asked me if I was finding what I was looking for, if needed help with anything I was looking at or if I knew that they were closing up soon. It wasn't until I reached the till I realized what time it was with all the staff gathered near the exit waiting for the greenhouse to close. That was an odd feeling but I appreciate the cashier & what I assume was the owner for still taking time to chat with me and make sure I knew about the punch card and had everything I needed. While exiting, I noticed a bunch of very happy greenhouse cats and one very lovely old greenhouse dog. Something about greenhouse that keep animals always makes me smile just a bit more.

I love what they do, from their veggies to their online presence. You can visit the farm as well, to pick saskatoons or visit their greenhouse, but I haven't done that yet. Their CSA is a great way to make sure you're eating your veggies, and to expand your vegetable horizons. Each week, you get an assortment of vegetables. They let you know a day in advance, and there are a few standards (potatoes and onions usually), but often you end up with something that might be new to you. Last year I learned all kinds of ways to cook fennel! It is pretty reasonably priced too; around $25/week depending on the size you get, and we didn't have to buy vegetables anywhere else once the CSA started. The CSA keeps expanding, adding more and more pickup locations each year. Riverbend partners with various other local businesses, which serve as pick up locations for the veggie bags. I've been picking up at Acme Meat Market, which makes for a lot of delicious meals in the summer and fall. Love it!

But to know them is to love them and since being on a tour of their farm I really really love their veggies. A bus tour of the great farm land in Edmontons NE was held by Live Local and GEA. The tour visited 6 great producers all sitting on healthy productive farmland. On the tour I met the family that farms Riverbend, I saw the beautiful farm and learned about their farming practices/land stewardship. They recently added CSA (Community supported agriculture) with 3 delivery sites in the city. You can sign up for next year and have fresh veggies delivered. Their Spanish onions are so superior to the ones that we find in stores. Many store bought veggies are travel hardy but not very exciting to taste. Riverbend has lovely varieties of corn and they are having a great corn year. They tend to get their veggies to market very early in spring due to their micro climate. So in these categories I give them 5 stars: helping to develop local food economy, great tasting veggies, civic boosters (they love Edmonton and sell locally/hire locally), advocates (they are working with others to educate people about the importance of good land use planning), support of CSA.

We didn't mind walking after parking in the residential area. The variety of vendors are great. There will also be the ones selling produce, but there were also plenty of food vendors sampling tastes and some options were ready to consume. If not, there are numerous food trucks available and some seating which is always great when you don't have walk and eat. It can get crowded but I find the layout is not too congested and I was able to walk around and see the items I wanted to. In addition to food, there's jewelry, clothing, and home decor. here's a kid's play area and the library was also open inside. There are porta potties but also toilets inside too. Great place to spend a Saturday morning or afternoon!

They blow a fog horn at 10am when the vendors are allowed to start selling their wares and it blows again at 3pm when the market closes. There are so many vendors at this market and they rotate from week to week and year to year. Some booths are consistent and show up every year while others may come only a few weeks of the year. Of course there is the classic food vendors: garden produce, fresh seasonal fruit, hot food/drink (food trucks), and custom foods (pies, cookies, beef jerky, fresh/frozen meats, perogies, etc). But there are a lot more hand made items: wooden patio furniture, jewelry, garden items, knit clothing, and other knick nacks. And there are the alcohol suppliers now: craft wines, craft beers, distilleries, mead, and doesn't kombucha even have a little bit of booze in it? ;) A few of my favorite anchor booths are listed below. Viravongsa's Farms: they have a legit farm near Red Deer and offer the freshest locally grown produce. Family owned and operated and their prices are fair. Confetti Sweets: They offer a great selection of cookies. You can buy them as a single or get a volume discount if you buy 3 or more. My favorite is the Oatmeal chocolate chip.

Located in northeast Edmonton, this farmers' market is a true community event, completely volunteer-driven and operated. There is an abundance of fresh and unique products that are made, baked, or grown locally in and around Edmonton. You can find bedding plants, perennials, a wide range of vegetables, fruit, and berries. There are also delicious jams, jellies, preserves, and fresh meats. My son loves the jalapeno flavored pepperoni sticks. Prices are very affordable, and staff are super friendly and welcoming. Oh, you can get fresh popcorn too. Very family oriented. Loretta is someone that truly stands out here, with her cheerful manner, friendly smile, and vast knowledge. Never has anything I have bought from her died. The quality of her plants is just stellar. She truly goes the extra mile. For example, if you want something that she doesn't have, she will offer to bring it for you the next week. It turns out she has her own Greenhouse, Country Clay & Garden Works in Red Water. She is a pleasure to see every Tuesday.
