I have two daughters and they both went to Sunshine House Concord. One has graduated since the good old days of one-drop-off. They would always come home singing songs they've learned from circle time, or talking about dress up room. My eldest learned how to put on her jacket using the jacket flip technique, one that she so proudly showed us. They still sing the colors of the rainbow every day. If I had to choose another preschool daycare again, I would still choose sunshine house concord. We also love their family bfast days! Thank you sunshine house concord!

Vanessa and Crystal "manage" this school, and were reported to Oakland licensing for NEGLECT, RETALIATION AND DISCRIMINATION in January 2023. Neglect: Failed to properly clothe my (then) 3 year old during a freezing November 2022 afternoon. She was outside with only a tank top on, while every other child and teacher had coats zipped to their chins. My daughter was sent to school with a tank, hoodie and puff coat (3 layers), and they removed her hoodie (which she could not remove by herself). When I arrived to pick her up in the afternoon, 2 teachers admitted she arrived in the layers, but since breakfast time she had been in only a tank top. That means, my daughter was improperly dressed for the entire day, and "management" allowed it to happen. The very next day, my daughter had a runny nose and cold symptoms that she did not have prior to the neglect. I was called mid-morning to come pick up my daughter, which I refused. I told them they are responsible for her being sick, and they need to take care of her. I wasn't going to take off from work due to their irresponsible actions. They harassed me all day at work--calling and texting. Retaliation/Discrimination: After licensing did the investigation, Vanessa and Crystal called me into a phone meeting and said my daughter had 30 days to vacate the school. Per licensing, my daughter had no documented incidents in her file, nor had I been contacted about any incidents that would require removal. Vanessa and Crystal wanted my daughter removed SOLELY because they were reported. Due to their retaliation, I reported them to Oakland Licensing again! The investigator (again) found no evidence in my daughter's file that would justify removal. After the first report to licensing, I started receiving calls and texts multiple times per week stating my daughter had bitten someone (yet no incident report was ever provided or filed), my daughter wasn't engaging with other kids (which is not a requirement), she wouldn't nap (which is not a requirement), and several other excuses they came up with to get me to pick my daughter up mid-day (while I'm at work). They even text me one day to say she had a fever of 103. When I told them she was fine when I dropped her off, and requested they retake her temperature, it was back down to normal. Again, another retaliation tactic to get my daughter out and no incident report filed or provided. At the end of January, they said they would extend my daughter's last day until February 10th (as if they are doing me a favor). I removed her to put her into a school that actually cares about my family and doesn't harass me multiple times a week for frivolous things. I recommend you call Oakland licensing and ask for details of this and all other reported incidents--You can get a better idea of who will be "responsible" for your child, because it's not Sunshine House. Vanessa and Crystal are irresponsible, lack empathy, and do not engage well with children. They pushed my child out because they were mad I held them accountable, and my toddler is the one who suffered; She no longer gets to engage with her close friends, nor the quality teachers who actually cared for her. There are many, many other details to this story, which I'm happy to share if you would like additional info. I am going to post Vanessa and Crystal's pictures so you know who will neglect your kids if they go to Sunshine House in Concord.

Saying bye to mommy through the window, it's cute how they have a step stool to see out.

Ok it's been about a month so here is my update. The first couple times dropping our daughter off at Sunshine House she had some tears being away from mommy and daddy all day especially at drop off and pick up. Not the case after the third day! She walks right in the door and runs off to play. She absolutely loves all the teachers and gives them hugs. It makes me so happy she enjoys being around other kids as well as being comfortable around the teachers. I've noticed her more confident especially in her motor skills. I really like how after the first couple of weeks we got a call from Ms. Crystal evaluating her progress. During that call I heard so much positivity and encouragement. Even after pickup we get a little review of how she did during the day and I love how in her cubby we get notes from her day and if she worked on any activities. Our whole family loves Sunshine House Concord and how loving and caring they are with our daughter. We love Sunshine House!

I can't say enough good things about Sunshine House. They have been more than amazing. We weren't sure if our son was ready for preschool and specially during Covid but it was definitely the best decision. We have seen the positive changes in our son and how much he's learned. He always looked forward to his next day of school and would come back home happy with a project in hand and telling his sister what he did at school. He loved his teachers and the new friends he's made during his time at Sunshine. Now we feel he's definitely more ready for T-k this fall. Thank you so much to all the teachers at Sunshine House in Concord for making my son's first experience of school amazing, easy, fun and educational. We will definitely be calling back to enroll our daughter when it's her turn.

Having a blast at play time :)

This week, our youngest two are leaving for elementary school, and it's truly the end of an era for us. From day one, every teacher and staff member has treated our children like family. They created a safe, nurturing, and fun environment where our kids were not only incredibly loved, but also so well prepared for kindergarten. The growth we've seen in all three of our children--academically, socially, emotionally, and in their confidence--is a true reflection of the passion and dedication this team brings every single day. A very special thank you to the amazing teachers who have played such a huge role in our children's lives: Miss Sylvia, Miss Sasha, Miss Jenny, Miss Jasmine, Miss Mackenzie, Miss Tammy, and all of the other wonderful teachers who have loved, encouraged, and believed in our babies throughout the years. Your patience, kindness, and genuine care have meant more to our family than you'll ever know. And an extra special thank you to the incredible Miss Karla. Your leadership has created such a special place for families. It's clear how much your staff loves what they do, and that starts with the environment you've built. We are so grateful for everything you've done for our children and for making Kidz Planet feel like a second home. We will miss our daily drop-offs more than we can say, but we'll always be thankful that our babies spent these precious early years at Kidz Planet Preschool. Thank you for loving our children so fiercely, helping them grow into kind, confident little humans, and giving them such a strong foundation for elementary school. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We will forever recommend Kidz Planet Preschool to any family looking for the very best place for their little ones.

The Concordia School

Our child began attending Concordia in kindergarten and four years later, they are thriving!…read moreConcordia is everything we could hope for in a school and a community. The teachers are caring and invested. The Montessori curriculum gives the child ownership and responsibility for their own learning with guidance from the teachers, while allowing room for playful curiosity. The school also places a focus on social responsibility, so my child isn't just getting an academic education but a social education as well: learning personal responsibility, learning to interact with mixed age groups, to problem-solve through conflict resolution, and to contribute through acts of kindness at school and at home. The school is delightfully "dumb" in that devices and online learning are not a part of the lower grade levels. The kids are taught cursive and write out most of their works. Homework is not introduced until the third grade level. And I love that kids have the option to work in the way that suits them best, whether that's on the floor, sitting at a desk, or standing at a table. They can work with a friend, or work alone in the quiet room to aid focus. The school understands that every kid's learning process is a little different and helps set the kids up for success. We feel so fortunate to have found this school that is so caring and inclusive of families of all races, ethnicities, gender identity, family structure, and/or socioeconomic status. In addition to feeling like the right learning environment for our child, we are so grateful to have found this community and be welcomed into it. We will be so sorry to leave after 6th grade!

Decades later, my own son attended preschool and kindergarten here (2023-2025), and seeing him experience the same warmth and joy meant so much to me. This school is genuinely one of a kind. The farm setting creates such a peaceful, nurturing environment that you just don't find at traditional schools. Children get to learn while surrounded by nature, animals, and open space, which makes learning feel natural and exciting. One thing that really stands out is the classroom environment. Many preschool and kindergarten classrooms can feel chaotic, with bins of random toys everywhere, but that's not the case here. The classroom is bright, calm, and inviting, filled with carefully curated and beautifully organized Montessori materials that encourage focus, independence, and purposeful learning. The Montessori approach really works. By the time my son graduated kindergarten, he was already reading confidently -- but even more importantly, he developed independence, curiosity, and a real love of learning. The teachers and staff create a caring, respectful community where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. It's rare to find a school that stays in your heart for decades, but this one truly does. I feel incredibly grateful that both my son and I were able to be part of such a special place.

The teacher to student ratio is much lower than public schools so students receive much more individual focus, plus the lessons are curated to each individuals needs.
