Even better, when a cancellation opened up a nicer pull-through site, Brandi upgraded us. That flexibility and customer service made a great first impression before we even settled in. Once we arrived, we discovered a wonderful RV park that offers the best of both worlds. You're within easy striking distance of everything Pagosa Springs has to offer, but far enough away that you don't feel like you're in the middle of it all. One thing that really sets Last Resort on the River Park and Campground apart is that it stays open year-round. That's a big plus in an area where many campgrounds operate seasonally. Whether you're coming to see the aspens in the fall, ski or enjoy the hot springs in the winter, or explore this beautiful part of Colorado in the warmer months, it's great to know there's a welcoming RV park here year-round. One thing we especially enjoyed was the peaceful setting. No city lights interfere with the beautiful Colorado night sky, and the river and Riverwalk offer a wonderful place for a quiet stroll or a little respite at the end of the day. By contrast, our cabin had matching dish sets, glass sets, wine glasses, towels, sheets, etc. etc. There was nothing lacking, at all. There was even a nice tote bag full of newspapers to start the fire pit, and a ziploc bag of matches in the side pouch. They thought of everything! Details - there was an oven, stove top, refrigerator, dishwasher, washer, dryer and really nice grill on the front porch. The bed was high quality (my back lets me know if not). The location is beautiful. It's only a couple of minutes from downtown Pagosa but feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. It's surrounded by horse farms and we saw plenty of deer walking around the area, including right in front of our cabin one morning! This is the best of both worlds, run by the owner so it has that personal touch, but in a very professional manner. There were also none of those annoying add-ons like a cleaning fee, security deposit, etc. that surprise you at the end of the booking. My wife Renae and I escaped the desert to attend a car show in Pagosa Springs (a GREAT car show, by the way!) and needed a place to stay. There is not enough room in this review to tell you how perfect our stay was! Angie greeted us upon our arrival and showed us our "Cabin". We stayed in "The Peaks" and if you are thinking these are rustic old cabins, think again! These are finely crafted homes with every amenity you would ever need! The furnishings and décor are first rate and give that "Colorado" mountain feel that we were looking for. They have a washing machine and dryer, full size refrigerator, full size stove and oven and all of the necessary dinnerware and utensils needed (including wine glasses!) if you choose to stay secluded for a week and cook your own meals. The bed was super comfy and there is even a whirlpool tub to relax in at the end of the day! The cabins are QUITE and make you feel as though you are 10 miles from anywhere with incredible sweeping views of the Continental Divide. The amazing thing is that these cabins are literally 2 minutes from downtown Pagosa Springs! You are that close to restaurants and activities! And when you are done you are moments from your tranquil oasis! We will DEFINITELY stay here again! On a side note - Renae and I are both photographers and I made a point of getting up at 3:00am to photograph the Milky Way. The stars and Milky Way are the most vivid and bright we have ever seen! As I said, I could go on and on about our stay but suffice it to say that Angie and Ken are the best hosts ever and The Cabins at Hartland Ranch are simply amazing. It shares space with a nearby horseback riding company. Campground is 20 min drive into town of Pagosa Springs. It is a woody forested campground. No designated tent pads. When we got there the bottom was a solid piece of ice. A paper towel Had been put at the edge of the drawer and it was frozen to the meat tray. Also there some items we thot would be there that weren't. Nothing to store food in no foil or wrap at all. We did go get some. Also no dish clothes available. Dish towels yes but no wash cloths. We did enjoy our stay but would have been nice if we knew we had to bring our own supplies with us. No decent can opener the one there was hardly useable.

So much so, that the sheriff told us no one was allowed on the premises, and hanging around for what I assume to make a call on evacuation. We called Vacasa's help line to receive a refund or some sort of assistance since THEY'RE cabin is underwater, and the lady proceeded to tell us that since the insurance was not purchased, there was nothing she could do. AT ALL. So after 13 hours of driving we are having to find elsewhere to stay. Maybe next time I'll purchase the travel insurance. OH WAIT!! There won't be a next time with Vacasa. This deserves some explanation. If you want to use the hot tubs - you must use the hotel's dedicated "hot tub towels". They do not allow you use any other towels after hot tub use. And that's fine. But! In order to obtain hot tub towels, they require you to leave your drivers license with them as collateral. When I inquired about the policy - I was met with disdain. Like I was the crazy person here . Like no one else has ever asked about the logic behind this policy. Mustache man said, "people steal the towels. And it's a pain to replace your drivers license. So that's how we prevent theft". So, let me get this straight. You give me a towel in exchange for my drivers license. Let's say the towel is lost or stolen. What's the end game here? The hotel will refuse to give your ID back? Umm. Pretty sure that's illegal. And I feel that it's irresponsible to point out an issue without offering a suggestion for improvement. - charge people $5 a towel. If they don't return the towel. You keep the $5 or charge the card in file $5 after the stay. Since these towels can be replaced for $1.29 (I checked) it seems like this would prevent theft and/or be a money maker for the business. Mustache man stated that would require "too much paperwork". Really? This place is on 15 acres, has like 15 cabins and prob like 30 hotel rooms. They have employees, taxes, and capital expenditures - but it's too much "paperwork" to add a few towels to your monthly order. So instead you implement the most idiotic policy possible. And if you charged 5, 10, or 20 dollars. No one would steal a towel that is worth less than $2 !! I'm pretty sure that hotels have been charging people for mini bars and on demand movies for decades. Surely the technology exists to accomplish this. Last time we stayed - We wanted to use the hot tub in the evening. But after the lobby closed. So my wife had to leave her ID with them, then we went to dinner, then hot tub. She couldn't order a drink at dinner (because she's so young and pretty) because the hotel was holding her ID. What if there was a crash or an emergency and police/medics needed her ID? Our response is what, "I had to leave my ID with our hotel overnight so we could get hot tub towels." No police officer would believe that. Because it is such a stupid policy. No one with a brain would think that it is an actual thing. -- This time we brought our own towels. Even though it had been a year since our last stay - we were not confident that they made a policy change. When I made a reservation for the hot tub I explained this - mustache man seemed irritated. It's like he's been indoctrinated by some towel cult. He couldn't understand why I didn't want to participate in the ID for towel transaction. This needs to change.

We showed up 30 mins early as told too, but the guide was still out with another tour. Once back we got started late getting everyone ready and waiting for one couple. The guide was nice and the sleds are older but in good shape. We had a good tour once it started. Yet again we were suppose to ride from 2 to 5, but we were back at the vehicles by 430. Again the tour started late and ended early. Not sure why I paid for the extra hour. All in all my husband had fun and that is what counts, but I will not use this company again when friends and family visit.
