The bed was comfortable in our room but our other group had terrible beds and no air conditioning. Not covid related. Buy some new patio chairs for your weary summer traveller's. A friend of mine who lives in Creston recommended that I stay at the Magnuson. So I did. They had a king room available which was perfect so I booked and stayed the night. At approximately 1130 I woke up to use the washroom as I walked to the bathroom I noticed that my floor was wet. Upon further investigation I realized that there was a leak in the roof that was dripping down between the bed and the TV. I knew the office was closed but when I phoned the fella from the front desk answered the phone. I explained to him that the roof was leaking and I wondered if I should be concerned. He expressed to me that it should be structurally sound but if I wanted to move he would try to find me a room. I asked him to get me another room and thankfully the room next door was open, although it was not a king. He just handed me the key and said he would leave a message for the people in the morning. So at 11:30 PM I was moving all my stuff into the room next to me with no help from anyone. I slept quite comfortably in my new room and headed out in the morning. Before I left I stopped in at the front desk but there was no one there to speak to so as I drove away I made a phone call and express how disappointed I was that they never offered me anything such as a discount or a room for another night because of everything I went through. The man who answered the phone said he would speak to his partner or the other manager and let me know. I left them a phone number and they had my email on file. I expressed to them that I would like to hear from them regarding what happened and what they could possibly do for me or give me some type of break as I paid full price for that room that night. I have yet to receive any call or email. It was very disappointing as it is a cute motel in a great location but I'll never stay there again.

We booked reservations at the Creston Valley Motel 4 months before our trip, but the process of booking was painful and that should have been our warning. Right away, the man that took my reservation asked if I was paying with a debit or credit card. I said Visa Debit. He said that debit cards cant be used. Never in all my bookings in the past have I been turned down for using a visa debit card. He reluctantly ran the card and it worked to his amazement! Imagine that. Well, months later when we actually arrive after a grueling road trip, we get checked in to our motel, eager to get some much need rest. Again, he hassles me about my Visa Debit card saying they can't guarantee payment with Debit cards. I said it had the visa logo and works just like any credit card. He tried it and it worked. Got the keys and felt good to finally get some rest. I'm travelling with my mobility limited mother and this unit is down on the lower section and more difficult to get to, but not inaccessible. We open the door and it is tiny and cramped. Cant move around in the motel without bumping something. Chairs and table in the room look like something from the 60's. Old and uncomfortable. The bathroom was totally unacceptable. A tiny bathroom is okay if the experience of using the facilities doesnt gross you out, but this was not the case. Shower has old tile and the grout between the tiles is black with dirt and grime. Sink did not drain and water backed up. Water did not get hot during the evening hours, but just fine the next day. The manager probably turned the water heater off at night, which is odd. There are signs all over the place stating that using towels on anything that might stain them will incur additional charges to replace the towels. I went to complain about the room and instead of an apology and an offer for a different room, I was greeted with hostility and anger. He proceeded to tell me how he pays his cleaning crew lots of money to clean the rooms. I guess he assumes that paying them lots of money means everything is clean. I guess he doesnt check their work. This place is not the fithiest place I've attempted to stay at, but its definitely below anyones standard of cleanliness. Anyway, the next morning, I find out from the cleaning lady that they knew about the sink being backed up and rented the room out anyway. They also had other rooms available, but we weren't offered another room, inspite of the fact we had booked reservations 4 months prior. The manager agreed to refund me for the next two nights I had booked, minus a 4% charge. Oh and the other thing that really is disturbing? They are not PCI compliant. They still process credit/debit cards the old fashioned way with carbon copy paper records. If some robber breaks into the office, they get all your credit card numbers, not just the last four, but the whole card number and expiration. Maybe for this place that is a benefit as they would compromise on network security to save money and be even more of a risk if they stored the payment information electronically. So the take away from this is don't compromise for a cheap motel. You've been travelling and need a good place to rest. Don't sacrifice sanitary living conditions to save a few bucks. Its not worth it in the end. The hassle you go through of unloading your luggage, then reloading it, dealing with arrogant property managers, and horrible living conditions are not worth saving a few bucks when there are much better motels around town.

The light fixture in the bathroom - you guessed it, is from then, and has an orange flower on it. The bathroom tap runs continuously and makes the room smell like mildew. I think the taps are from the 1960's because they screetch if you turn them. There was a refrigerator, un-plugged and the bed was bouncy, just like back then. I went to go to bed and there were hairs and things in the sheets!!!!!!! The pillows were not clean, there was old make up on it. I got the pillows that were in the closet, they smelled clean, so i will sleep on top of the bed with possibly-clean pillows....and i get to pay for this experience?! EWWWWWWWWWW The older man who "greeted" me, actually just stood and stared me down, I gave my name and when I had a question about payment (Expedia c/card used? Or do i pay now?) He rolled his eyes and told me that the c/card was only for booking, um - ok, so i pulled out my debit card, but I guess he assumed it was a c/card. When the transaction didn't work, we found this out as he looked at my card and says "that's a debit card" - why, yes, it has been the entire time i've been standing here watching you putter around, roll your eyes and sigh heavily at me, in your greasy shirt. He then stated that a booklet in the room would have information, passed me my keys and pointed and walked away. - wow. On the good side: The bathroom has a door, which is nice, it keeps the mildew smell away from sleep area and the check-in as previously described was very fast. ------ Note: He didn't ask me for my I.D. at all. I guess for $70 bucks plus taxes etc....... they do have a sign indicating whirlpool and sauna and free parking and wifi so it's not that bad I guess If you don't mind just getting treated like crap, this is the place to be!
