Terrible experience at this place! Food was below average, and incredibly small amount. They switched the 100 bottle of wine we ordered to a 1000 bottle of wine! We live in the USA and have US dollar currency. We didn't pay attention to covert their money to dollars when the bill arrived. THE SUN HAS SET: What a disappointment! This was one of my favorite restaurants in Istanbul, but the food quality has gone down considerably. I had spaghetti with sea food. Boring and dry without any sauce. No spice. I then tried yougart kebab and it came almost without yougart. When I asked for some, they brought some tasteless yougart sauce. One of the nicest restaurants in Istanbul can't do a kebab right? While this was always a ritzy fusion place, offering everything from Italian, to Sushi, to steaks and Turkish, the food just wasn't anywhere near good enough for the prices. We were here for my birthday on 30th August 2023. The view, location is great. Whe I first stepped into the venue I felt like I have arrived at Sunset Düğün Salonu or Sunset Yemekhanesi! English has not the words with exact meaning. So I have to use Turkish words. The tables are so many and so close to eachother that you cannot experience any privacy. That is not acceptable for me for a fine dining restaurant. That was not the expectation. The service, the food was perfect. The amount of tables are over the limits of the venue, sorry. The restaurant needs renovation, the chairs, umbrella needs to be replaced. They look old fashion and dirty. Expectations and customer satisfaction was not met but it was a fine night for us. Really liked the service... the food and drinks were also really good. Plenty of options to choose from, the only thing we didn't like is being sat near tons of smokers lol they really need to have a separate sections for those who don't smoke now that the space is a closed rather than open during summer and spring months. read more

Very disappointed with my experience - what a bad use of such a great space. Starting from the service; it truly was terrible. When asked for recommendations he seemed annoyed and was not at all helpful. It was impossible to gain our waiters attention. Water was not filled. Communication and attitude was bad. Was ignored during the dinner and the waiter was only around the table when it was time to tip him which he made it very awkward by just standing behind our table and staring at the check. The food - i wished to lose my sense of smell and taste for the first time during this pandemic. Here is a detailed list; Beef carpaccio- literally did not know it was even possible to do such bad job - I cannot review this dish based on carpaccio because it sure did not taste anything like it. It was thicker meat that smelled very weird and had a dark brown color. After swallowing the bite you smell something off. Could only take one bite - we both got disgusted. Rock shrimp tempura: this was listed with a different name - was edible but also was the worst rock shrimp tempura I've ever had. Burrata: not specifically delicious but tasted like a burrata. The dish was kind of boring. Sushi: smelled and tasted very fishy- could not eat - I swear to you rite aid pharmacy sushi is better. Creme brûlée: did not get the tiramisu since its my favorite dessert and it probably wouldn't be after this meal if i had it. Had very low expectations but turns out my low expectations were still way too high for the lavender creme brûlée . It tasted nothing like creme brûlée- more like a liquid vanilla pudding that literally has no aroma of lavender but they stick this branch of lavender in the middle of your "creme brûlée" Could only take a small bite. Summary; I'm no food critic but this place is such shame in the history of restaurants. For me the meal was $150 or something- which is cheap for the US. (. In the scale of "high end" restaurants. ) I mean the meal would not worth 10 bucks don't get me wrong However for the people who live here is damn offensive. About 1100 tl. Left about 70 percent of the food. Glad smashed the bread and butter in the beginning so was not starving when we left but was still hungry. read more

Great Restaurant !! Service and food was impeccable. The Restaurant's location is amazing with views of the Bosphorus that are just breathtaking. The only thing I did not like was the smoking in the eating area. Being from the USA where smoking is no longer allowed in most places, I found it to be a bit annoying, but didn't keep me from enjoying all this restaurant has to offer. Nice, fancy restaurant with a good view of the bosphorus. Amazing sushi, but the other food feel overpriced for taste and quality that you can find elsewhere in equally good but less pricy restaurants. One thing I was unhappy with was the BBQ Chicken I ordered, which was supposed to be served with mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side according to the menu - it arrived with fries instead, but upon asking the waiter about it, they delivered the vegetables with no extra charge. It's not something I would normally worry about, but for its price it really needed more to really hit the mark. Overall good food, a bit expensive, kind and helpful staff. read more

Great place to go eat some good food and be in an atmosphere of a decent behaving crowd. The views of Istanbul and the water are out of this world. I ordered the lamb and it was the right amount of food that was cooked to perfection. The other bonus is the price. Although the American dollar is worth more than the Lira, it was fairly reasonable in price for what we had. Definitely a good place to enjoy the night with good food. read more

One star for the spectacular view. Zero stars for quality of food and service. Went in for a nice dinner with the family while visiting Istanbul. I ordered the Balinese sea bass and was expecting the rich, aromatic flavors of Thai cuisine with lemongrass and star anise. Unfortunately, the whole dish just fell short. The sea bass was cooked well but the broth was under seasoned and just fell flat. Others in my party ordered the grilled sea bass and that, too, was sorely under seasoned and just bland. Really disappointing considering each dish was $120 TL. We also ordered the artichoke salad. The artichokes were deep fried in tempura and laid on a bed of greens. The avocado was definitely the highlight. The tempura batter was oily and bland, and just did not seem to merry with the flavors of avocado and citrusy greens. Worst part of all, they charged us an extra $30 TL for what on the receipt said "sushi", but no one ordered sushi. When I asked, the server said it was for the bread. They charged another extra $10 for the tomato sauce and yogurt dipping sauce they brought with the bread. Apparently those things are not complimentary? If not, why do they bring them to the table without asking if we want it? Very shady. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody unless they are going for the view only. read more

Most of the staff also speaks English and is very very attentive, which means that you never wait too long for your food to arrive or for someone to be around when you want something... An incredible place! The view is absolutely stunning and we couldn't stop staring at it during our dinner. Sunset is a really upscale (slightly overpriced) restaurant in Turkey with a great vibe. The music was relaxing and the restaurant even had heat lamps for the slightly breezy weather. The food was perfect--my appetizer of pan sauteed scallops with pesto and balsamic sauce were delicious and the asparagus that came with them was quite possibly the best I've had. The Red Snapper I had for an entree was also great. We couldn't stop talking about the beautiful view and romantic vibe--I would love to come back here next time I'm in Istanbul! read more

Very highly recommended by our 6 star hotel. Very disappointing on seating. Beware we had a chain smoker at the table next to ours. Another couple that was probably local got moved to another table mid-meal. We had to suffer through. Having purchased an expensive bottle of wine and dinner. The service and views are amazing at Sunset Grill and Bar! This is the perfect restaurant for a first night dinner in Istanbul as it sets a wonderful tone for your trip. While the restaurant is an Asian and Turkish restaurant we were in the mood for Turkish and therefore avoided the Asian menu items. We sipped rose all evening and split 2 appetizers, the grilled octopus and the vegetarian mezze platter. In addition we split a delicious goat cheese, walnut, beets, and pomegranate dressing. For our main course we split lamb over eggplant puree which was DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! read more

This so called Michelin star chef needs to go to school again.Serving an entrée that was served late and was cold and burned doesn't deserve michelin status.There was only 1 great dish Citir Prawns ( appetizer) well guess what, i bet that was cooked by that Japanese chef not their regular so called chef because rest of the food was not good at all . If you like to eat real food Please go to some other place there are so many places in Istanbul with real food. If You're a Foreigner, Stay Away! If you're a nouveau-riche Istanbulite, you'll probably enjoy this place. But if you're a tourist or an expat, do not expect any hospitality or service. The food is average at sunset, the view is nice (that is if you get the right table), but what is horrible is the service. We made a reservation more than two weeks before we went there on February 12, 2016 with a friend who was visiting from Toronto. When we booked our table, we asked and were promised a table with a nice view (in the section where the sushi bar is located). When we arrived, however, we were given a table in the nearly empty front section of the restaurant with a blocked view. We naturally asked to be moved to the section with the sushi bar, where there were several empty tables, but were told they were booked for "others" (read them are Turkish friends). After a long wait and a lot of back and forth, we were Offered a table right next to the entrance of the main room. While we were hesitating Whether we should take it or not, they gave it to another group. In the meantime to, they also gave away our original table. Throughout this saga, the manager is never apologized for their mistake, nor did he offer us a complimentary drink. Instead, he treated us with disdain and was outright rude. We finally left, frustrated, disappointed and hungry. The moral of the story: if you're a foreigner do not expect hospitality and etiquette at Sunset. read more
