I am not a regular for tanning but as an individual who had 7 weddings this summer I desperately needed to even out my hiking tan lines and get spray tans so I looked appropriate in a dress. The times that I went here I had Meli do my spray tan and she was phenomenal. For those of you who haven't done it, spray tans are a somewhat comical experience as you stand naked and someone essentially sprays you down like you're a car getting a fresh coat of paint. But meli did a phenomenal job making the experience enjoyable providing great conversation and making the awkward positions required to minimalist weird tan lines feel less awkward. She did so well I came back and referred her to a friend. She will definitely be my go to person in the future! read more

I had a rough start when signing up with Sunsation. After having a membership with them for two weeks, I came in for my third spray tan. Amelia was there to greet me. She was so sweet and apologize profusely for some of the hiccups I was experiencing. She made sure I knew all the details of the membership, any perks that I could also receive. She even made me aware of the days they will be closed since 4th of July is around the corner. I could tell she knew what she was doing. She went over all of the tips and tricks with having a spray tan and also what positions to be in while the machine was spraying you. She was so thorough!! Unfortunately spray tan machine was down and not working. She was going to contact Midtown to see if I can get a spray tan there but they were very busy. So she went out of her way and spray tanned me herself. She did not have to do this! With customers walking in and Amelia was the only person on the floor, I was so impressed with her multitasking. She took her time spray tanning me and did not rush. She made me feel so comfortable... Let's be honest, being completely naked with a stranger is a little nerve wracking! Lol She did an excellent job, and made sure to touch up any imperfections. I have been in the customer service industry for 16+ years. Sadly, you don't see a lot of ppl in the customer service reps go out of their way for their customers. **Update - funny the owner states below that she will use my experience to better their team in the future but still isn't willing to make it right by returning my money. I can only imagine how many other people have been ripped off - shady shady shady!!!! ** What a terrible place. I came in wanting to buy just a couple of tans as I knew I would be gone regularly for work. I was told there was a minimum amount of minutes I had to buy (I believe there was a special going and so I spent about 70.00). I tan regularly so I know the drill, and I also do not tan my face and always wrap my hair - I work outside in the sun so there is no need to add more. Also, at this particular time I was taking a short term medication that was making my hair really dry for some reason so I was adamant about not having my hair uncovered. My first tan was just a few minutes and my face burnt, from 2 minutes of face tanning, and then through the towel I had on my face, because it takes an act of god to get the facial tanner to turn off, the facial tanner that comes on at full max power. I struggled with it for a full two minutes and finally could feel my face burning so I just covered with a towel and figured I would ask for help. My next tan I asked the woman at the counter to show me how to turn off the facial tanner, she showed me but did not tell me that the facial tanner stays on for a minute before allowing you to turn it off, and again comes on at full blast. So again I'm struggling with the Controls, robot lady is sayin all kinds of stuff, music is blaring, fans are going and my face is already starting to burn so I again cover up with a towel. I let the person at the counter know of my problem and she immediately blamed me - apparently I am the first person ever to have this issue??. It is suggested I try a 'basic bed' (the same bed that on my first day I was told 'well, yeah, I guess you will get a tan, if you want to invest that much time'). So I try a basic bed and THAT facial tanner won't turn off either (and yes I clarified and no I am not a complete dip s**t). It was not as strong (No color increase at all) but the facial tanner still would not turn off - I used my jacket this time to wrap my face up. I get a call from a manager of some sort and she and I talk, she was super nice but also told me that their facial tanners can not be turned off right away because it is bad for their beds. My bad, apparently my face is less important that your tanning bed. She says that I should come back and try again and that I have been credited the remaining amount on my account. The way it was worded I assumed she was asking me to come back for a tan and was refunding the remaining package for the trouble. I was already gone for work so I would not be back for a month or so. I went back in to 'give it a try' when I got back to Anchorage and am told I do not have any tans on my account but I do have 43.00 I can put towards another full package, of course I have to pay the difference to buy a full package, (because you can't buy just one tan). I say I do not like the salon, I am completely unsatisfied and I just want to never come back. So I am then told 'well, we don't give refunds so you can buy some products or something'. To me, a 'I changed my mind' refund and a 'I have never had a worse tanning experience and I never want to come back' courtesy credit are two very different things. I E mailed the owner and she called me. When I spoke to her on the phone, she tried to get me to come tan again (which I am NOT doing at this place) and then said 'well I can't credit you and then not others who have asked'. Are you serious? What are we 12? I just told you that I have had a terrible experience more than once at your location and you would rather me continue with a terrible experience so you can keep my 43.00? If you need 43.00 that bad, you can keep it. Jerks. read more

I moved here in April and I am so glad I found Sunsation. I go here through the week and Eagle River on the weekends since it's closer to my home. All the girls here make this place an exceptional place to tan. I love all of the girls at both locations because they have been so so kind since I started tanning here. I went in for a spray tan (booth session) yesterday, 8/5/22. I've had quite a few spray tans in the past. I went in with some knowledge on the experience. I'm not a newbie to the tanning world. Usually do it at home with gloves and self-tanner. BUT this was a birthday gift so why not utilize it. The front desk lady was extremely nice and knowledgable so my issue doesn't pertain to the staff but the equipment. I left yesterday after my booth experience and allowed the full dry time of 6-8 hours as recommended, even beyond that I gave it a full 13 hours for full development. To find only half of my body tanned. So i'm assuming one of the sprayers did not work because my front right side is tanned but my left is not. On my backside my left back is tanned but right is not. I called this morning to notify them of my results with no expectations of anything and they did offer to have the airbrush tech. fix the issue but I am a mom with little to no time and I have to make arrangements for someone to watch my children and was offered that I could come in today but again, I have very limited time and children. I would need to find a sitter for them, so I kindly declined. Would have rather scrubbed this half tan off and gone a different time to try the booth once more but oh well. read more

This place is always so clean and the receptionists are always super friendly. Understand that the prices will be more expensive for better equipment and they have all different models and types for every skin type. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a quick tan and maintaining that tan. read more

I just want to state that I everything about this business! I frequent the Eagle River and Tikahtnu locations! Love all the employees that I have come in in contact with! People need to understand that theses kind of establishments are state and municipality regulated and so the rules that they have aren't necessarily the rules of the people that own or work at the business! This place feels like my home when I walk in because they aren't just out to make money ( which this is someone's lifeline), they really care about you as a person! They always have taken the time to treat me as they would want to be treated! Could go on and on about the positive things, but short and to the point is a better review!!! This is the best place to tan...I enjoy the staff they are really helpful with the specials that they always have.

Clean, quiet, and friendly. I am a pale girl, just needing the occasional ray of sunshine, and this place always comes through!

my experience started great, the young girl spent time with me and my daughter explained prices and products. she was very pleasant. we made our appointments and came back in an hour. then when we came back, the young girl forgot to tell us about the winkies or googles. (no biggie) the boss with an attitude said (before we could even say no problem) Quote "I can't let you back there unless you buy them" assuming it was a problem which it was not. my daughter said she will never go back. I'm going to give it one more shot hoping she just came across rude on accident ~ here is hoping. read more
