This motel billed me an extra $7.36. It's not much, but it still bothers me because it was either…read moreunethical or a mistake on their part. I originally intended to give this motel a 4/5 rating. Or maybe no review at all because I would have mentioned some negative things, and I was afraid mentioning those negative things would scare potential customers away. I felt like I would gladly stay at the Econo Lodge again, and so I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt their business. But after showing me that they will make billing mistakes, I am tempted to stay at a different motel in the future. There were only a few cars in the parking lot after 11 PM, so I don't understand why they didn't have a Queen available. I had to get a King instead. The room came with a fridge and microwave, which I didn't need. It would have been nice to have the option to not have those amenities and possibly save a few dollars. The air conditioner was running when I entered, and it was freezing cold in the room. Even my female friend who likes the cold complained and was shivering. So we turned the heat on for a while. My one and only real complaint about the room is that there were no trashcans. No trashcan in the bathroom. No trashcan in the room where the bed is. I had to put our trash in a pile, which I later I moved onto a paper plate, and then later I put the trash inside a Subway take out bag. The motel room is a little run down, but nothing that I want to complain about. There were some cracks on the wall above the shower, and dark coloring that could be mold, but it didn't bother me. The sheets looked clean, but if you lifted the sheet and looked at the mattress pad it was stained. But that didn't bother me. I wasn't expecting pristine brand new looking shower walls and pristine brand new mattress pads. The fact is that they do clean their linen. You can see the washer and dryer machines running in the morning. The bathroom sink didn't drain fast enough so if you left the bathroom sink running for a few seconds the sink would start to fill up. But not a big deal. I liked the shower. The water ran hot, it ran hot for a long time, and the shower had a lot of pressure to it so you could get a good massage. Every other amenity was like I expected. I thought that the Continental breakfast was superb. The food looked appetizing, fresh, and delicious. I didn't care much for the sausage gravy, but maybe that is how normal sausage gravy tastes like. The woman who worked the 11 PM to 7 AM shift was especially friendly. I liked her. I felt like I could easily give the motel a rating of 4/5. Maybe even slightly higher, as my only real complaint was that there were no trashcans. But I'm upset that they made a billing mistake. When I first got the room they wanted me to give them a $50 cash deposit but said that if I had a debit card they wouldn't need a cash deposit. Then on the second day, I noticed a pending $118.84 charge on my debit card even though the room only costs $111.48 per night. The owner hurriedly assured me in his bad accent and English that I won't be charged anything and that the $118.84 pending fee would go away after a few days. But it didn't. The amount changed to $7.36 and then the $7.36 was taken out of my bank account. I know that there was no reason to be charged $7.36. I returned the motel keys in person like 30-40 minutes before checkout. The room was in the same condition as when I entered it. My female friend actually thought that I was weird for straightening the room up before we left. The towels were hanging from the towel rack. The trash was neatly placed inside a Subway takeout bag on the TV stand. The sheets were back on the bed. And I probably left like $5 or $6 of loose change for the maid because I don't like carrying coins around. So why was I charged $7.36? There is a Super 8 down the road that costs half as much, only $52 a night, and it would probably have been decent. There is also a GrandStay Hotel across the street that has gotten good reviews and looks high quality and is basically the same price as Econo Lodge. I think that I would be tempted to stay at the GrandStay hotel the next time that I ever need to get a motel/hotel room again in Luverne, or the Super 8 if I don't care about having a freshly cooked Continental breakfast. I'm not 100% against staying at Econo Lodge again. It's a decent motel in a great location. I'm just bothered that I can't trust them not to make billing mistakes. Other than the missing trashcans, my only other tiny complaint is that I wish they provided disposable travel size toothbrushes and toothpaste, but maybe motels and hotels don't do that. That's it. That's my review. I originally would have given 4, 4.25, or 4.5 stars. I would have stayed again. There is a decent chance that I might stay again in the future. But I'm giving them a 3 star rating now and I will consider my other options next time.

I would not stay here again…read more As soon as I walked into my room, I was hit with a strong moldy, musty smell. The carpet was soaking wet, and even the towels in the room were wet. The room felt damp, and the conditions made me start coughing and dry heaving. I did not feel comfortable or safe staying there. I immediately went to the front desk, and the employee acknowledged that the carpet and towels were wet. Despite that, the hotel refused to refund my money. Because I couldn't stay in the room and couldn't afford another hotel at the last minute, I had to drive approximately 2 1/2 hours back home. I booked through Expedia and have since had to dispute the charge with my bank because I paid for a room that I was unable to use due to its condition. I understand budget hotels aren't luxury accommodations, but guests should at least receive a clean, dry, and habitable room. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend staying here.

I was glad to discover the Rose Stone Inn, a charming B&B in the heart of historic Dell Rapids. Built in 1909 to accommodate traveling salesmen, it might well have been a stopover for my grandfather, who moved his family there from Knoxville, IA. (The town does boast at least two funeral homes, right there on the main street, and he was a wholesale casket salesman, so...). It's not cheap, but it had the great advantage of being right in the middle of where I wanted to be, and as I was soon to discover, the delicious breakfasts I was given each morning were substantial enough to eliminate the need for seeking out lunch! I stayed in the Violet Room (aka "Violet's room"), which was perfectly sized for a single traveler and had a small, but well-appointed en suite bathroom. The decor was period correct and aided my mental time travel. Sharon, the host, was always friendly and welcoming, without being the least bit obtrusive (for those travelers who might avoid a B&B out of fear of too much familial feeling!). I also met the House Dog, Maggie, who invited me to give her a belly rub upon our first acquaintance, and I happily obliged.

Not sure why the reviews are low but we had a great experience. This was a great place to stay…read more First the room We had a lovely room with a king sized bed. Everything looked new, carpet, TV, etc. The no door, walk in shower was great. We had a beautiful view of the golf course. Checkin was easy and staff was super helpful in giving us a quick overview. Next the gambling We mostly played craps and had a great experience. The table staff was funny and chatty. The first night we played by ourselves. The next two times there were a few people at the table enjoying the fun. We won a little but had a lot of fun. Now the golf The course is a links type layout so no trees and long grass. The forward tees were about 5200 yards which is a good distance. I even got a birdie on #8 which never happens. Cart had GPS. Range balls are included in your green fees. The greens, fairways, and tee boxes were in great shape. Lots of workers on the course making sure it was well maintained. I really enjoyed playing the course and we played in about 3.5 hours. And finally food We ate in Ruthie's which I rated separately. We also had breakfast in the cafe which was just ok. First day I had a latte and the caramel cinnamon rolls. Second day the fruit and a toasted bagel. I did love that they offered to warm up the rolls and toast the bagel. Staff was great.

There was no one at the snack bar to help with enjoying a late dinner. Was told you have to pay with your players card and if we didn't have enough points, we couldn't get anything from their snack bar. When asked if we can pay cash or credit card, they said having points in the players club is the only option. Also, security closed off the entrance closest to the hotel north area which made it hard for our handicapped person to get back to their room. She had to walk around all around the casino to get to north hotel area for someone that has difficulty walking. Hope these things can be improved.
