Our stay was a solid 4. It's clear they are trying to upgrade the rooms with new furnishings. Our room had nice bed - shower water pressure is good. Clean. Little quirks that upset us but nothing so bad - as it's an inexpensive hotel, off the highway and a good spot to tackle the next state as you travel. Kwik Trip next door to walk to and we walked to a restaurant a few blocks down. Indoor pool open - hot tub closed - (didn't use but there). Value is great and we paid the few bucks extra for their larger room. Always something to nit pick - but our stay was a 4 star and in line with a "value" hotel for us to save a few bucks to get a shower and bed and move on. read more

As we entered our room, it immediately smelled of human urine. It was super late at night and felt we had no other choice but tolerate an extremely filthy room. Bathroom was extremely dirty. We found a pubic hair on the bathroom counter. Around the toilet was urine, hair, mold and dirt. In the corners of the bathroom were dirt, mold and hair. Carpet wasn't vacuumed from previous guests. The carpets smelled like urine. Everything was dusty. There was also holes in the wall. We felt disgusted and to pay $100 for that is horrendous. We'd like a refund! read more

The front desk clerk was not very engaged in his job. The hotel was dirty and had a heavy smell of air freshener that was overwhelming. We had to open the window to get the smell out. The sheets and towels all had a strange yellow hue to them. The massaging shower head only worked on the very forceful massage setting. Judging by my allergic there is definitely mold somewhere in the hotel. This hotel is located in the town my grandparents lived it. It is a very clean nice town. This hotel is disappointment. With tax we paid $150 for the night. My advice would be to book ahead and stay at the Grand Stay. read more

Although Triston at the front desk was very friendly and helpful when we got in, our experience was otherwise pretty disappointing. We found a giant stain on our sheets, and when we requested another set of sheets the ones we were given also had yellow stains on them (as well as one of our pillowcases.) The back door of the building was left unlocked, and in the morning, the person working the front desk was burning incense that made the entire building reek of hot urine. read more

Can I do a zero star?! This hotel makes my top 3 worst hotels I've ever stayed at. Fist the lady tried writing my credit card info on a piece of paper because she couldnt figure out how to get me checked in, then the card reader wouldn't work. After that, the hot tub was out of commission but it appears to have been that way for years- the bugs, mildew and rust have taken up residency. Then it was disappointment when we seen our room- the shower was disgusting- good thing it's not a hair washing day because I ain't stepping foot in there and I made the kids wear their shoes because it looked so dirty. Lastly we got locked out of our room for about an hour and a half. The safety latch somehow opened far enough that it was impossible for anyone to open the door. Then we were told to not let it happen again! Excuse me? This was our fault? The hotel is trash. The front desk couldn't assist in any way to make it right. read more

This motel billed me an extra $7.36. It's not much, but it still bothers me because it was either unethical or a mistake on their part. I originally intended to give this motel a 4/5 rating. Or maybe no review at all because I would have mentioned some negative things, and I was afraid mentioning those negative things would scare potential customers away. I felt like I would gladly stay at the Econo Lodge again, and so I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt their business. But after showing me that they will make billing mistakes, I am tempted to stay at a different motel in the future. There were only a few cars in the parking lot after 11 PM, so I don't understand why they didn't have a Queen available. I had to get a King instead. The room came with a fridge and microwave, which I didn't need. It would have been nice to have the option to not have those amenities and possibly save a few dollars. The air conditioner was running when I entered, and it was freezing cold in the room. Even my female friend who likes the cold complained and was shivering. So we turned the heat on for a while. My one and only real complaint about the room is that there were no trashcans. No trashcan in the bathroom. No trashcan in the room where the bed is. I had to put our trash in a pile, which I later I moved onto a paper plate, and then later I put the trash inside a Subway take out bag. The motel room is a little run down, but nothing that I want to complain about. There were some cracks on the wall above the shower, and dark coloring that could be mold, but it didn't bother me. The sheets looked clean, but if you lifted the sheet and looked at the mattress pad it was stained. But that didn't bother me. I wasn't expecting pristine brand new looking shower walls and pristine brand new mattress pads. The fact is that they do clean their linen. You can see the washer and dryer machines running in the morning. The bathroom sink didn't drain fast enough so if you left the bathroom sink running for a few seconds the sink would start to fill up. But not a big deal. I liked the shower. The water ran hot, it ran hot for a long time, and the shower had a lot of pressure to it so you could get a good massage. Every other amenity was like I expected. I thought that the Continental breakfast was superb. The food looked appetizing, fresh, and delicious. I didn't care much for the sausage gravy, but maybe that is how normal sausage gravy tastes like. The woman who worked the 11 PM to 7 AM shift was especially friendly. I liked her. I felt like I could easily give the motel a rating of 4/5. Maybe even slightly higher, as my only real complaint was that there were no trashcans. But I'm upset that they made a billing mistake. When I first got the room they wanted me to give them a $50 cash deposit but said that if I had a debit card they wouldn't need a cash deposit. Then on the second day, I noticed a pending $118.84 charge on my debit card even though the room only costs $111.48 per night. The owner hurriedly assured me in his bad accent and English that I won't be charged anything and that the $118.84 pending fee would go away after a few days. But it didn't. The amount changed to $7.36 and then the $7.36 was taken out of my bank account. I know that there was no reason to be charged $7.36. I returned the motel keys in person like 30-40 minutes before checkout. The room was in the same condition as when I entered it. My female friend actually thought that I was weird for straightening the room up before we left. The towels were hanging from the towel rack. The trash was neatly placed inside a Subway takeout bag on the TV stand. The sheets were back on the bed. And I probably left like $5 or $6 of loose change for the maid because I don't like carrying coins around. So why was I charged $7.36? There is a Super 8 down the road that costs half as much, only $52 a night, and it would probably have been decent. There is also a GrandStay Hotel across the street that has gotten good reviews and looks high quality and is basically the same price as Econo Lodge. I think that I would be tempted to stay at the GrandStay hotel the next time that I ever need to get a motel/hotel room again in Luverne, or the Super 8 if I don't care about having a freshly cooked Continental breakfast. I'm not 100% against staying at Econo Lodge again. It's a decent motel in a great location. I'm just bothered that I can't trust them not to make billing mistakes. Other than the missing trashcans, my only other tiny complaint is that I wish they provided disposable travel size toothbrushes and toothpaste, but maybe motels and hotels don't do that. That's it. That's my review. I originally would have given 4, 4.25, or 4.5 stars. I would have stayed again. There is a decent chance that I might stay again in the future. But I'm giving them a 3 star rating now and I will consider my other options next time. read more

Unfortunately, I was unable to stay for my trip because there was a death in the family. I called 3 days prior to cancel and get a refund. Turns out, the person I spoke to never canceled the reservation. It was marked as a no show and I was charged the full amount. After seeing the charge on my statement, I called to get the refund I was told I would get for canceling 48 hours prior to my reservation. After calling/speaking with a team member about this issue, I finally spoke with a manager (Tanner) and was told "the owners are foreign, they don't know how refund policies work, but I will make sure they call you back in the next week.". A week went by, and no one returned my call. I called again and spoke with Tanner again. He told me that he would make sure someone would call me back. Another week has gone by and no one has returned my call. Very unprofessional, and would not recommend this unorganized establishment that ignores issues that happened on their end. Driving through Minnesota on highway 90 is a fairly exhausting task. We finally pulled up to this place at about 2am. They were quick to help us find a room that fit our needs. The staff was friendly and nice. The room was pretty standard with some old furniture from the 80's. The floor felt a little sticky, something you wouldn't expect from carpet. The room also had a distinctly odd smell. My bed had a few medium length black hairs in it when I pulled back the sheets. The other bed appeared clean. The shower and toilet were clean. The shower water pressure was perfect and the towels were clean. Breakfast and coffee is included. Coffee was decent. Breakfast included yogurt, eggs, biscuits and gravy, croissant with fruit filling, cereals, a basket of oranges, make your own waffle station and a variety of juices. Overall, this place isn't great but when you're tired and desperate this place is tolerable. read more

Currently on a road trip and have spent 4 nights in the past 10 days at various Quality Inns along the way. This one in Luverne, MN, was the first disappointment and it was more than disappointing, it made me angry! At the first Quality Inn we stayed at, we were offered a frequency card and told after two stays we would earn a free one. At our third hotel, we were told no... At your next one. Well, after waiting nearly 20 minutes to get checked in to this, our 4th QI, with two babies crying the entire time, we were told no, we didn't have a free room. Why did we sign up for this frequency program again?! Then, asking if they had a crib available, we were told yes, for an extra $10 charge. Why were cribs available at every other quality inn for free? The front desk employee was slow, unapproachable, unhelpful, and failed to make us feel welcome or comfortable in any way. Breakfast area was dirty and full of flies. Fruit bowl had no fruit available which meant fake eggs as the one and only gluten free option and we had to ask for spoons because the hospitality employee took forever to come check on status of breakfast. Sorry Luverne, but next time I'll suffer 30 more minutes to drive on to another town. I probably would have been in a bed faster if I would have driven on from you last night! read more

Two words...crap hole. Sewage stench though they supposedly fixed the problem. Toilet that just runs on its own, asked to be fixed, they didn't, uncooperative & unaccomodating front desk. One star is generous but Yelp won't let me post zero! read more
