Promises made before the move were not fulfilled, and there are physically and verbally aggressive residents in the facility. Residents go into each others' rooms, sleep in each others' beds, and do not receive the attention they need, from what I've seen. Residents will take each others' food, drink, and silverware while staff seem not to notice. The level of care promised simply is not provided, at least in my parents' case. The environment was also not comfortable or relaxing for my parent, my family, or me. One aggressive resident would grab people hard, and once a resident took her cane to him, with all of this happening in the dining room, which is packed due to size and number of residents. Brighton Gardens memory care was truly the worst place my parent has ever lived. It was so disappointing. Some of the staff members are very kind and nice to the residents, but there simply are not enough staff members, and not all staff are nice and kind (one staff cursed at a resident in front of others). The manager appears to have one or two other facilities to run or jobs, as we rarely saw here there. Brighton Gardens should be ashamed for promising such a wonderful place for those with dementia to live and for not doing so. My parent, in my opinion, was caused a great deal of stress and anxiety in this horrible environment. I would not have even given Brighton Gardens one star, but I had to do so just to make this post.

Very nice rooms. Friendly staff. Sweet "house" dogs that are residents. Better than most other…read morefacilities I toured.

This brings into the question Carechoices overall leadership and adherence with their own mission statements, so you may want to research other companies before making such an important choice. Additionally, it created a lack of trust and comfort on both sides---theirs and ours---which should not be a factor when your loved one is dying. Lastly, communications and supplies sometimes lagged, as did follow-through with the social worker we were assigned, but never heard from to schedule our meetings.

She personally visits these homes often, so when she recommends one you can be sure it will of good quality. Originally I had used a national service that advertises on tv a lot and they referred me to a home that he only stayed 8 days. It was not a good place and they didn't do anything they promised. Their consultants simply look online and direct you. With CareChoice you can be sure they are giving you a good quality place for your loved one. Also, Rachael has been very helpful when I have called her since the placement. She is very compassionate and friendly, and calls back quickly. She is very happy to share her knowledge and experience with me. I highly recommend using CareChoice to find the perfect home for your needs.

Overwhelmed, fearful, helpless. That's how I felt when my loved one was diagnosed with dementia…read more It's extremely difficult to find resources and treatment. Integrated Memory Care is the only primary care practice in the U.S. specifically for people living with dementia due to Alzheimer's, frontotemporal degeneration, Lewy body, and cerebrovascular disease and their care partners. Sadly, my loved one had been diagnosed for 9 months and had been treated by multiple Emory providers. No-one mentioned IMC. I learned about it through the Shallowford Alzheimer's Caregiver support group. To Qualify Before establishing care, patients must have a dementia diagnosis. Get on the wait list for a cognitive testing appointment and make an appointment with a neurologist in the interim. Integrated Memory Care Clinic (IMCC) IMCC enables patients and family care partners to have geriatric primary care, dementia care, caregiver support and education at one location with free parking! If your loved one has a cold, needs medication management, or is experiencing dementia behaviors, specialized nurse practitioners diagnose and treat with the goal of avoiding the ER and hospital visits. One Stop Shop Instead of a primary care doctor, patients' care is managed by nurse practitioners who have advanced training & specialization in dementia, geriatrics, and palliative care. The nurse coordinates care with geriatricians, neurologists and a clinical social worker. Dementia-sensitive primary care frees you from having to explain the diagnosis at every appointment, especially if your loved one has mild dementia and "presents well." Before IMCC I called every state agency and none were helpful. I have two degrees and struggle to figure out Medicaid! We'd wait months for a visit with a senior doctor who was dismissive. Even with a great PCP, every appointment was in a different place and the providers didn't communicate with each other. After hours and on weekends, we had to visit urgent cares and the ER just to end up with a huge bill and no treatment. With IMCC Now I message the nurse on MyChart and receive a faster response. Neurology appointments are handled through IMCC, with virtual cognitive tests. When there was sudden pain, we didn't have to leave home. Dispatch Health was recommended to evaluate my loved one. A wonderful social worker provides emotional support, disease education and self-care tips. Jenny informed me about financial resources, guardianship and managing dementia-related behaviors. Treatment/Services Services include preventive care & immunizations, treatment for acute issues like falls & infections, monitoring chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, care partner-only visits, planning for future care, cognitive assessments, referrals to specialists and an after-hours line for patients with urgent issues. Resources/Information The IMCC newsletter provides information such as virtual lectures, support groups, estate planning, clinical trials and events like "Musing Together" at the High. I've attended two empowering brain health conferences. My favorite project was "Improving Care Through Improv" at Dad's Garage where caregivers learned to use humor and "yes and" strategies to better communicate with loved ones. And we were paid! Summary 188,000 people aged 65 and up live with Alzheimer's in GA. 374,000 loved ones are unpaid family caregivers. IMCC lessens the burden and enhances the quality of life of those living with dementia. I highly recommend giving IMCC a call!

Sounds like a great idea for this clinic. It only works if the staff and doctors are compassionate…read more That's why the rating is a 1. The staff and doctors are the complete opposite. They claim its an all in one fix. You can see all the necessary providers all in one shop. The problem is they aren't doctors they are NP'S & RN'S. They lack empathy and compassion but can put on a good front while in office. This might be the only one in the U.S right now but it lacks substance .

My sister lived in independent living as she became more ill, I transferred to memory care and hospice. They had a hard time keeping my sister clean and her nails were dark brown from filth- I cleaned them myself as she deserved no less. MY sister had a seizure and I asked that the nurse be called to help and I was told, "she's at lunch". She later came down and seemed put out!!!!Her Chanel body lotion disappeared as did all of her perfumes. Please don't put your family in memory care. Heartis continues to go downhill with lots of turnover of the help.A close friend of mine is having a horrific experience with her mom in memory care. Now she has to move her to another facility. Heartis adds stress to an already stressful situation.

Like many others, I am moving parents after 7 months because of safety issues and general lack of trust in management. Just a few examples...consistently broken elevators, garbage piled up in garbage rooms, no clearly communicated plan for fire safety (fire drills are scary in a high rise when residents don't know they are coming or what to do). Having had previous experience with care facilities, I would say that communication with residents goes a LONG way in easing their anxiety and creating a sense of community. We have not received a single communication since we arrived. As we transition from independent to assisted living, it's more important than ever to trust the people that surround my parents and I simply don't have that confidence.
