Three words to describe this business... PROFESSIONAL, ETHICAL AND HELPFUL. This review has been long overdue. My check engine light turned on early 2025 but ran without any issues. Not until late September when my 2017 Ford Edge Titanium started overheating. Causing me to frequently pull over to let the engine cool down to then realize the antifreeze was leaking into the engine causing damage to the head-gaskets. Raymond inspected the car and immediately (the next morning) called to give me the details of the damage. Took his time to explain since I know nothing about cars/engines. Gave me multiple ways to go about it. Honestly he gave me peace of mind. It's so STRESSFUL to have car issues and worst to know nothing on the topic or know anyone that is trustworthy and knowledgeable. The level of transparency was mind blowing. Wish I had known about Sunray Automotive when my check engine light first turned on. UGHHH.... that's what I get for trusting people that know very little or might not have the best intentions. Even though Raymond wasn't able to help fix my car (repairs would cost more than the car was worth) he sure helped me by providing guidance and peace of mind. Man I was stuck in a pickle earlier this week. My car makes a weird squeaking noise and "clang bang pow" I hear something snap. I have my car towed to this place and Joe took care of me right away. He took an initial look and told me that it's probably just the driver side axle but he will let me know if he saw anything else. I left that morning around 10:30 with a quote and I get a call around 3 saying my car was done. Not expensive by any means and the invoice was truthful. Tough to find an honest mechanic but look no further! These guys are the real deal. read more

Excellent Family run auto repair shop with integrity and top notch customer service. I used to be a regular customer of other mechanics in Lakewood and Bellflower. As luck would have it, my wife and I ran into the owner of Sunray and his family on a cruise. He mentioned he owned a shop and we enjoyed a nice meal together. Fast forward to my wife getting fed up with my mechanic of choice and deciding to give Sunray a chance. She was thoroughly impressed with their customer service and swift delivery of her fixed vehicle. What impressed her the most was that Ramon did not take advantage of her lack of car knowledge and laid out exactly what the situation was with her car. When Ramon spoke with my wife about her car, he mentioned that he wanted her to become a life long customer. He stated that he wanted to save her money and make sure she was happy with Sunray and the service they provide. I still elected to go to my favorite mechanic another time or two. Eventually I decided to give Sunray a chance and I finally met Ramon. He was exactly as advertised. He could've upsold me on some parts and services that I didn't exactly need, but he didn't. What I didn't tell Ramon or the shop owner was that I went to UTI to be a mechanic and I had dealership experience in Cerritos Auto Square. When he spoke to me about my truck, and mentioned alternatives to fixing my vehicle, he actually tried to persuade me to not spend extra money. I couldn't believe it. I had experience with some shop owners and mechanics that were the opposite. As an auto shop operator, you don't know when your next customer is going to walk in the door. A lot of mechanics will try to pad a repair bill for many customers just to make sure they can pay their bills and stay open. Not Sunray. Their approach is they treat you like family and hope that you will return again and again. Recently my truck failed smog. I went to see Ramon and he recommended a course of action that saved me a TON of money. I was prepared to spend that money just to get my truck registered but he convinced me to try his plan. He was right. I was able to pass the smog check without spending the extra cash. I now can make it until 2027 before getting another smog and hopefully get a new vehicle by that time. I really appreciate the folks at Sunray, especially Ramon. I wish I remembered the owners name of Sunray, but I mostly deal with Ramon. The owners daughter works in the shop and she was incredibly kind and remembered my wife and I from the cruise many years ago too. On my last visit I brought in pictures and we had a good laugh. I truly hope everyone in the community gives Sunray a chance to be their personal mechanic. We as neighbors need to support those that live and work in our city and strive to be good business people. I have only been in the area for a little over 2 years so finding a good mechanic wasn't easy. Fortunate for me, Sun Ray was recommended by a friend who lived in the area yearrrrs ago. Luckily, Ramon stil works there... and he is one of the nicest mechanics you will ever deal with. We've had a/c work done, brakes, tune ups, and oil changes done on our Honda and Toyota. We also took our older Jag there and Ramon, being the honest guy he is, told us he couldn't fix what we needed, and didn't charge to look at it! As another yelper mentioned, it's not the cheapest but they do darned good work, promises always kept. They also make recommendations as to what repairs "should" be done, however, they don't tell you that your car is going to die if you don't get the work done. In other words, they are not out to get your money, but they are there to do what all mechanics should... That is fix your car so it's running as best as it can. read more

I have brought my vehicles throughout the years to the good people at Sunray as I am in their neighborhood. I am compelled to write this review in light of a particularly great experience I had this week. I brought in our 2007 Nissan Quest van for major service involving ignition coil replacement, all 4 engine mount replacement, replacement of a leaking drive shaft (right side), repair a steering fluid leak, and a chronic alignment problem. After picking the car up, I noticed that there was a new, subtle shuddering during particular phases of acceleration at speed. Otherwise the engine felt strong as ever and the alignment issue was totally fixed. I immediately drove back to the shop and the owner, Joe, hopped in the van with me and we together tried to recreate the thing I observed. He was very patient in explaining possible issues after he confirmed what I was feeling through the car. He asked me to drop the car back off at the shop as soon as I could so he could replace the brand new drive shaft. I got the van back in there 2 days later after driving up to Bakersfield and back for work. They had it for the morning and asked me to come by for a drive. The subtle shaking was gone! The van now drives like it did in 2007. They ended up replacing the driveshaft with another brand and voila! They did not charge me for that change out as it was "the right thing to do" according to Joe. These guys care about their work, and most importantly YOU, their customer. You won't be sorry putting your car in their hands. read more

Decent service -- most of the motor jocks have been here for years. The main problem is they can be difficult to provide a call back. They don't offer the best prices, but if you are near the 91 & need your wheels serviced, they are reliable in a pinch. read more

I used Joe and his team at Sun Ray Auto for years and trusted them with my vehicles as well as family (ie. Grandma). They are fair priced and honest. On multiple occasions they would either not charge (if a problem could not be found or diagnosed), or would not try and sell me on service that was not needed. I don't write many reviews, but I have owed Joe and his team a 5-star for a very long time. I only wish after moving that I wasn't so far from his shop that it makes it difficult to use. I recently discovered that not only are they good for your average maintenance, but Joe actually knows quite a bit about performance upgrades and is very well connected amongst the racing community. I have been taking my cars to Sun Ray for years with very good service. My last time in I had an issue with my wifes van and some noise coming from the front end when she turned right or left. Sun Ray felt it was a steering issue and replaced the rack and pinion. A day later and there is a new noise that Sun Ray said is probably the strut. They checked it out the following day and said it was the strut. I had my wife bring the car home without doing the repair and the noise got worse. When I got home that night I test drove the car and also looked at the video my wife took while driving and was disturbed by the noises the van was making. I felt I had to check under the car myself before I let her drive it with my kids in tow. I consider myself to be mechanically inclined as I am an engineer by trade and deal with mechanical systems on a daily basis. I got my floor jack out and hooked up the compressor to pull the tires off. As I jacked the van up I heard a clunk....the left front tire had some movment to it that wasn't normal. I then checked the tire and found 4 out the 5 lug nuts were completly loose and ready to fall off. I couldn't believe what I saw. The first thing that ran through my mind was the death of my wife and 5 children. The second thing was how thankful I was to find this. I went back to Sun Ray and showed the video I took and all the manager could say was "wow, I'm really sorry....what do you want me to do" I wish I had the luxury of extra time to do my own repairs but I don't. Five children a wife and a busy career forces me to depend on others to do these things. I feel very fortunate that this horrendous oversight by Sun Ray didn't have a catastrophic outcome. I also realize that I need to do a better job of due diligence in choosing a mechanic and fully vetting their credentials and policies. As an example. Costco tire center will not release a car without two people checking and torquing the lug nuts on a car before it leaves their facility. read more
