I was a first-time customer at Sunny's today after my old stylist from another salon moved away. I'm a Haddon Heights resident currently looking for a new, local and reasonably priced salon. I called the salon yesterday and they were able to get me an appointment today, so I was thrilled. I inquired about pricing to confirm what I saw on their website. I was told my trim and blow dry would be $40, or $45 at most depending on the length of my hair, but most likely $40 unless my hair is "really, really long." My hair falls just below my shoulders, so I prepared to pay either $40 or $45.
I'm giving this two stars because today's stylist, Marlena, cut my hair and did a great job and I don't want to discount the quality of my cut. The cut is a pretty standard trim but exactly what I asked for, and I am really happy with it.
The review has to do with what I was told I'd be charged and what I was actually charged, which I've found to be an increasing problem with hair salons. When she ran my credit card I was charged $50 before tip. When I questioned the pricing she shrugged like there was nothing she could do because she ran the card and told me that $50 is what she charges normally. I understand and respect that different stylists have different rates, but as a new customer I believe I should have been told Marlena's rate upfront since she was who the appointment was with. Because I've experienced random up-charging in the past at salons, I always make a point to ask what the charges will be when I'm making the appointment so I can avoid being up-charged in the future. Just like I shop for other products, I want to pay what I believe a decent haircut should cost. This was a really disappointing experience for me, as I was either overcharged today or told the incorrect amount over the phone yesterday. Luckily there are plenty of competitors in the area so I'll take my business there. read more
