    Bay Christian School

I came to know this school through the Bay Church, but my experience left me disillusioned. The…read morestaff and teachers may claim to be Christian, yet their actions often reflect the opposite. Judgment is constant, cliques run deep, and teachers play favorites while showing little patience for children. Instead of encouraging growth, they silence voices and push kids to mature too quickly. The endless fundraising became unbearable--it seemed like every week brought another demand for money. And the Class Dojo app, which should have been a simple communication tool, turned into something that felt more like Instagram. I eventually deleted it out of frustration. What's most troubling is the disconnect between what's preached and what's practiced. Faith is spoken, but not lived. As Matthew 7:20 reminds us, "By their fruit you will recognize them." Parents deserve to see the reality: behind the polished image, this school fosters hypocrisy and division, not the values it claims to uphold.

Our family's experience with the preschool program at this school was exceptional. The preschool…read moreteacher and the program coordinator were warm and had a collaborative spirit. Kudos to the preschool program for making our child's early learning experience positive and enriching. We were very pleased with everything! Unfortunately, our experience following preschool did not meet the same standard. We observed a big shift in the approaches the school used. We had concerns about a lack of cultural sensitivity and limited willingness to engage collaboratively with parents. The disciplinary actions seemed developmentally inappropriate and punitive for young children still learning about social-emotional skills and impulsiveness. During meetings, we also encountered interactions with team members that felt dismissive and unpleasant. I lost faith in open, constructive conversations about our child's needs and progress. However, I think their academics were decent and appropriate for my child---my child performed well. Unfortunately, our child's teacher utilizes TikTok to post disparaging comments about parents. It was unprofessional and damaging to the sense of trust between them and us. My child's classroom environment also appeared overly focused on rule enforcement and behavior management through tools like ClassDojo. There was a lack of emphasis on teaching self-regulation or emotional growth. We hope the school will continue to build upon its strong preschool foundation and revisit its approach in kindergarten to support the holistic needs of its students better.

Little Tianjin Daycare - Making edible textured finger paint

    Little Tianjin Daycare

This review is way overdue. My daughter has been coming to Little Tianjin for over 1.5 years and…read morewe've absolutely love every second of it. As a parent you always want to make sure your child is cared for especially in a new environment. We were so nervous to have our daughter go to daycare but knew it would be good for her social skills. I started researching daycares and when I came across Little Tianjian I knew I had to reach out. We bought our daughter in for a tour on a weekend and she warmed up fairly quickly, so much so she didn't want to leave. Fiona Laoshi (teacher) is very organized and the in home day care is very well kept and clean. At the end of every week, she sends out a curriculum for the following week with what type of activities the kids will do along with songs and books for the week. She is also always available if you have questions/concerns. I love the Chinese Immersion program that they have. I still remember during the first day at drop, like most mama bears, I was a mess. It was so hard leaving my daughter there as she had always been with me the first two years. I was relieved when Fiona kept sending us pictures of updates especially the first week. Fiona and the other caretakers pay a lot of attention to what my daughters needs are (ie: if they notice there's a certain food she likes, occasionally they will send her home with extra) Did I mentioned all the meals are also home cooked with love? Little Tianjian Daycare has become an extension of our family and we're so grateful we found it.

Our daughter has been attending this daycare since she was 6 months old, she's almost 3 now and we intend to keep her here for as long as we can because of how much we love it here. Fiona and the care takers have witnessed all of my daughter's milestones along side us. They really pay attention to each child's needs and communicate clear steps on how to problem solve. Through Fiona's guidance we switched my daughter from bottles to straw sippy cups because Fiona noticed my daughter taking in more fluids that way. We gradually switched from the sippy cup to an open cup - adjusting to my daughter's changing preferences. We partnered with Fiona and the care team to potty train my daughter by 2.5. If my daughter is ever unwell or going through developmental changes, Fiona is keen on telling us what she observes. She loves the kids so much and puts a lot of effort into lesson planning. I find my daughter coming home reciting poems in mandarin and sharing what she's learning. Last spring the kids got exposed to the solar system and that really stuck with my daughter, she came home naming the planets and wanting to learn more. In addition to a diverse curriculum, Fiona and the care team make home made meals for the kids, my daughter absolutely loves their homemade buns. If you're looking for an immersive mandarin immersion daycare in Contra Costa county, Little Tianjin Daycare is the best in the area. I've spoken the other daycare parents and some of our cohort travel from Martinez, Concord, and Walnut Creek to have their child attend this daycare. We are so grateful for Fiona and the care team's care for our daughter and highly recommend them.
