Two weeks ago I called Happy House liquors on the phone, a lady answered and I told her I was looking for a special summer only blend of beer, and she told me they could probably get it. Two weeks later, she called and told me they got my order in and will hold it til I get up there in August. Everett's Liquor store sent all of their customers a message: They would be selling all of their…read moreallocated bourbon on Jan 15, 2022. They invited us to wait in line in order "to conduct the largest one-day sale of premium, highly allocated whiskies the Stateline has ever seen". They promised to release prices and quantities 24 hours before the event. To get clarification, I personally called the store, asking about the pricing ahead of time. The woman personally assured me that "they are very close to MSRP prices" and "we do not price gouge here". So, I canceled my Friday night plans, got together with multiple buddies to wait in line overnight. Some people had already been in line in the below-freezing temperatures for 18 hours when Everett's store released the true list: The full list is attached below. They listed certain bottles over 10x MSRP. A bottle with an MSRP of $49.99 was listed as $500. Each bottle was 3-10x the price that people who were waiting in line expected based on the conversation with the shop. While retailers have the right to charge whatever they would like, they certainly do not have the right to mislead their customers to wait in line for something that can be found cheaper somewhere else. This was misleading, falsely-advertised price gouging. Over 100 people have complained on their Facebook page, and the manager Matt has been nothing but rude leaving comments like this is somehow the fault of his customers. And my rosemary and basil starters are all going strong. The meats. Today I picked up some drumsticks to spoil the new (geriatric) pound puppy with. He couldn't believe it, was thrilled. But - where were the dog bones? It's been awhile since I picked up any. Friendly staff person stopped what she was doing. Was cheerful, chatty, accompanied me to the place where they belong. Oops. Nothing there. No problem! Went to check in back. (How really, really nice.) Returned with an armful of fresh, huge bones that any dog could happily spend hours chewing on. Continued with my shopping. Found everything else I needed (of course.) Picked up (my favorite!) jelly donuts. They may be inexpensive, but Woodman's are the best. Filled up with gas. Lately has been consistently less expensive in Beloit (compared to Rockford). Oh! And the NO FEE ATM. T w o of them no less. That is really considerate. And smart.
