This place is set in a fun summer getaway setting! It is so bright and airy! I love all the orange and summery vibes it gives! It is basically a pool, lounge, bar, restaurant. I came here in February and we sat outside along the pool area. They were hosting a dog adoption event via Take Paws and there were cute pups all around us. Brunch came with the event and I enjoyed the most refreshing brussels salad! It was so good and am still thinking about it today. That salad dressing made it. They had bottomless mimosas for $40 but felt that was a bit steep, so just ordered the one glass of cava. The service was good, the waitress was nice and freindly, and I think the dogies put everyone in a happy mood. The bathrooms are large and clean, they have to account for changing rooms. There is off street parking and it is right next door to cinnaholic! I don't know if it was special or all the time, but on the menu cinnaholic's cinnamon bun was offered as dessert. And since it was Mardi Gras time, it was a king cake version - OMG so gooood!!! I have raved about this place to my friends and everyone knows the story about how we met our adopted dog shortly after this event, through Take Paws, and named her.... Sunnie :-) read more

This place is cute! I love a good pool party, and even though this one was in January and it was cold, they had heaters outside to keep everyone warm. The food was good, I had the shrimp roll, and the drinks were even better. I tried a few items from the menu, and the drinks were tasty and strong. The DJ was great, and they even had a sketch artist drawing portraits, which was such a fun touch. I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite spots in the spring. Between the food, drinks, and the pool, I might just be there every weekend! read more

Stopped by Sunnie's for a Saturday pool day. I was fortunate enough to snag a table as a last minute reservation as they book up fast. Such a cute pool area. They had a nice menu. I ordered a frozen watermelon margarita which was so cool and refreshing. The service was slow so I do wish they had more servers but still a pretty good experience. I ordered the Brussels Caesar Salad which from other reviews was popular, but I was underwhelmed. The dressing had no flavor and also didn't taste the other flavors listed on the description. I ordered the lobster and shrimp rolls. I enjoyed those. The bread was really fresh but for $22 I would have loved more lobster and shrimp. The pool was so cool and although it rained the rest of the afternoon I enjoyed my pool day, would definitely come back. read more

Came to Sunnies for a Yelp party for their opening and it was a great event. Sunnies has great cocktails with a very nice bar and the backyard pool setup is the star of the show. Listen, I love Sunnies already and it's not even summertime when I'm in dire need of a pool. At night, it's a sight to behold. You walk into what appears to be the stylish rec room of a house and it opens right out to the gorgeous, glowing blue pool. Plenty of seating inside if it's too cold (or, in July/August too darn hot) and it all looks out onto that sweet pool scene. Drinks are priced lower than hotel pool bars and I love their day pool pass situation. Very reasonable all around. We were there to just check it out and get a drink, but I could easily see myself spending more time. I do wish there were some plant-based options on the menu other than guac... but sometimes guac is all you need. I also appreciate the really nice staff here, from the moment you're welcomed in by the bartender and then taken care of by the equally generous servers. You can sit at a table inside or out, even if you're not eating. They don't throw shade (listen, it happens even in NOLA and I don't love that feeling that they don't want you taking up a table if you're not getting a full-on spread). So let's give praise to that traditional Southern hospitality that seems to be more and more rare these days. What a cool addition to Freret. And damn how this street has become the new "it" block. A great addition to Freret Street. Vibrant, colorful, fun decor. Spacious indoor and bar seating area. The outdoor pool area does have a good amount of seating but fills up quick. Even with the crowd it was a great time. Staff is friendly and efficient dealing with crowds. Poolside service. Great cocktails and snacks. Daily HH. This place is so cute! It has a sort of vintage summer vibe. Everyone was so friendly and the food was so good. I had the Brussels Caesar and omg. It's a combo I didn't know I needed. I love a good Caesar salad but I never thought to add charred Brussels sprouts to it. I really liked the cocktail I ordered. It was called the passion project. It was sweet but not too sweet with a bit of tanginess. The outdoor pool area was so cute. They have different happy hour specials. I will be back with my girls for the girl dinner special. And I'll definitely be back to try out the pool. read more

I would give Sunnies more than 5 stars if I could. It's genuinely my favorite place in NOLA. First- it's a pool. So obviously we're already off to a strong start But beyond that, the frosé is dangerously delicious, all the cocktails are great, and the food is SO good. My personal favorites are the sliders & the burrata plate. And if you happen to catch one of the grill pop-ups, GET THE LAMB LOLLIPOPS. I cannot stress this enough- they are out of this world. The staff are always incredibly friendly, the music is on point, and the vibes are immaculate. It's one of those rare places where I can show up alone and somehow end up making new friends basically every time I go. They're also constantly doing cute/fun stuff like Take Paws events, night markets, DJ nights, Latin nights, & Love Island watch parties; so, there's always something going on without it feeling like they're trying too hard. And Wednesdays are family day, so kids can come enjoy the pool too! Basically, Sunnies has somehow managed to combine everything I want in a place- pool + excellent drinks + delicious food + great music + fun events + lovely humans. 10/10, no notes. I went to Sunnies for a reality tv screening and it was so fun! The drinks were the best part, I thought they were so refreshing and perfect for the mostly outdoor seating/pool vibe. The food was good too, but I would say it's a tad on the expensive side. The melon salad was perfect and I want to recreate it. Service was good, especially for how busy it was. Came here for brunch this weekend. Even though it was November, the pool was still open. Good thing, considering it was 85 degrees outside. We got a few rounds of drinks. I got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch punch and it was good. My friend got the frozen coffee drink and she enjoyed it. Our last round of drinks we got the other frozen drink which reminded me of an Angel Food smoothie from Smoothie King, but with alcohol. The guac dip was a very generous portion and I loved the yuca chips. We all eventually got sliders and they were good. I got the sazerac mason on the side for dipping and my hash browns. Our server was great. I only wish they would have had the lobster roll available for brunch. read more

Sunnies is such a cute, tucked away oasis in the bustling Freret area! It feels cozy yet tropical, and I love the options of social bar seating, indoor dining, or poolside lounging. The food and snacks are great...I recommend the ahi tuna. My all time favorite drink is the Sleight (slight) of Hand. The smoky mezcal pairs perfectly with the acidity of the lime. And speaking of drinks, shout out to Randall..bartender extraordinaire! He makes for an extremely welcoming and festive atmosphere. Sunnies is definitely my current Freret favorite! read more

My time here was amazing and I would 100% be back. As soon as I walked in I was greeted at the door and offered a complimentary towel. After telling person who greeted me about how I was coming back from long travels he even gave me a free shot to "decompress." I don't drink but I thought the gesture was so sweet and I gave it to the girls sitting next to me who were also grateful! My server Faust was incredibly kind and offered fantastic service. He made sure to check in on me without making me feel pressured to order until I was ready. I started off with the cold brew coffee on tap from hey cafe and it was perfect. For food I did the Brussels Caesar with shrimp. The salad was good - not the best I ever had and the portion was on the smaller side but I was satisfied. Then had two of their n/a beers which was perfect. The pool itself was incredible, the music was great and I met some awesome people as well. I will definitely be coming back again! read more

Yall! You've got to try this place! From the time we walked in we were greeted with the nicest man who gave us a little tour and we decided to stay and eat outside by the pool to catch some vitamin D. Our server Katie was the nicest! It was such a vibe near the pool. Sun chairs, music playing and good drinks. They did offer bottomless mimosas but for $30 I decided to pass. (Only needed one) The breakfast sandwich was delightful but I took a hash brown from the other dish, place in on there and then it was fire! The 3 sliders were everything I was hoping for. I'm glad there were 3 for the price (I didn't ask, I assumed 2 so that was lovely when it also came out with 2 hashbrowns) The pool is also heated so any day is a good dip in the winter! I had an amazing fall evening at Sunnies. I sat by the heated pool, next to the fire pit. The vibe was chill and the playlist was a nostalgic good time. The service was outstanding, from both the bartender and the waitress. I had red wine, deviled eggs and the lobster rolls. The value on the lobster rolls were amazing and it was one of the best I've had in New Orleans so far. We stayed until closing (not realizing it) and I truly appreciated they didn't have the heart to put us out, lol. Sunnies is truly a newfound gem. read more

I believe I overheard someone saying this spot opened just 6 weeks ago. We were in the area for the Freret Street Festival and we stopped by to check it out. So eye-catching from the street, and when we walked in, we found such a cute and refined setting with a pool and seating outside. There was a bar and dining area inside, too. I read online that you buy a day pass to swim in the pool, temp controlled salt water pool. They had bites to eat and of course a bar for drinks. We just popped in to look around. Ahhh the Brussels sprouts Caesar salad was delicious. I've been thinking about it non stop. Also the king cake colada was one for the books. Came back several times during the season for it. This place is run by a very rude manager who has no respect for anyone nor their reservations. DO NOT COME HERE to watch love island be prepared for them to tell you they are at "full capacity" even if your friends make reservations, they do not care. The manager "Jeff" proceeded to call me a "karen" and would not allow me inside while my friends who had reservations were already there. Most unprofessional and disrespectful service I have ever experienced in my entire life. The "manager Jeff" needs to learn how to respect women and have some professionalism. Calling someone a "Karen" for simply explaining a misunderstanding because they have friends there with a reservation is just beyond rude. What is the point of making a reservation if you will not honor it? They claimed they were at "full capacity" but you can see from my picture they clearly were not. My friends also said the food here was not even very good and the pool was dirty. Highly recommend going to other places uptown to enjoy a nice pool day like the Chloe. read more

Possibly the most disappointing meal i have ever had. the guacamole had no seasoning and no diced onions or tomatoes only whole grape just thrown on top it was just mashed avocado not guacamole. and the chips weren't tortilla chips they were some weird fried flatbread which wouldn't be a problem if it tasted good but it was gross. the steak was well done and i ordered medium rare. it was unseasoned and they drizzled the sweet glaze from the brussels sprouts on the steak so i was served a well steak topped with syrup. totally disappoint one star. read more

Re: COVID-19 operations and safety practices…read more I gotta slow clap for y'all because I am loving the new implementation of the appointments online and how serious the JCC is taking COVID-19. Members of JCC Uptown are able to book appointments up to three days in advance for one hour block sessions. Everyone has to wear a mask upon entry and get your temperature checked. Per their constant email communications all members must arrive ready to workout (lockers are only available for bathrooms so no showers or storage purposes) and bring in your own towel and water bottle. They allow no more than 7 people at a time in the cardio room and around 8/9 in the weights room. Within the cardio room every other machine is shut down to practice social distancing. You'll also find plenty of marked disinfected and used cleaning sprays so you can wipe your machine before and after. Their team also cleans the machines CONSTANTLY. Like I seriously would get off the cardio machine wipe it down, just to then see them wipe it down again themselves. I feel safe coming here and appreciate there isn't a crazy occupancy capacity happening right now. TAKE MY MONIES. *Just know you will have to sign a waiver the first time you initially go during COVID-19, because liability and lawsuits ya know...

That said, with the extremely limited time it's open coupled with the useless employees that work there (aside from a lifeguard or two that actually care about their jobs), this pool leaves much to be desired. There is generally at any given time, not less than three "employees" sitting in folding chairs texting. When it opens in June, the place is pristine, but the dressing rooms and bathrooms are never cleaned, so as the previous poster mentioned, by August they smell like pee, are covered in refuse, and are generally unusable. The pool area is generally well-maintained, however. Verdict: Nice pool, but terrible dressing rooms/bathrooms. Wear your bathing suit under your clothes and bypass the dressing area completely. Only go in the bathroom if it's an emergency.

Thanks to these fantastic facilities, I was able to maintain--and even improve--my fitness level without spending a single dime. My favorite spot was the Gert Town pool. The lifeguards and managers are professional, friendly, and diligent about enforcing the rules--exactly what you want when safety is a top priority. The water here is slightly warm, but still very comfortable--certainly better than the water temperature at UNO. If you prefer cooler water, George Rainey Pool in Algiers is another wonderful place to swim. During the week, I almost always had a lane to myself, and on Saturdays I typically shared with just one other swimmer. On the rare occasion the pool was closed for maintenance, I'd head over to CC's for a coffee and return when they reopened. Worst case, I could find another nearby pool in service. Another perk of Gert Town's location: it's just a short distance from City Donuts and Café, perfect for treating yourself to a piping hot glazed donut after your swim. I may actually move back to the city because of these pools. If you're a New Orleans resident who enjoys lap swimming, you should absolutely take advantage of these top-notch public facilities. Where I live in the DC Metro area, nothing even comes close to this level of quality--and certainly not for free.

Refreshments stands are spread out among the park and they do a themed cocktail and sell beer, hard seltzer and soft drinks, along with typical concession food and popcorn. I had the cocktail of the evening, the Purple Rain and while it was eye-catching, it was so sweet and possibly strong, too, that I couldn't drink more than 1/4 of it (and it's a huge cup, fairly priced at only $13). The grounds are beautiful with fountains and an area with slides and water features that you'd normally see children dominating (with perfectly good reason) but it was actually fun to see adults having at it on the slides and at the water sprayers. Then there's the lazy river, which is a decent size, warm and full of jets to move you along. We ended up not using flotation devices and swam/walked through it. My main issue and why this event isn't personally my cup of tea: it's too crowded. It sells out but I think they sell far too many tickets. We arrived 15 min after it started and there wasn't a lounge chair nor seat at a table to be found. Cabanas are so cheap here but they sell out immediately ahead of the event, likely the day that tickets go on sale. The only way I'd return was if I could get a cabana. The lazy river is completely packed 45 minutes into the event. We were lucky enough to get a locker (which also sell out so imagine being there without a space to put your things??? how is that fun?). People are in general nice enough to hand over the inner tubes but good luck ever getting a place to sit if you didn't line up in advance of start time. I keep going back between 3 and 4 stars for the main reason that everyone who works here is SO nice. The staff really made everything bearable for me, as they were so welcoming and helpful to point out where the lockers were (there's another set behind the set you initially encounter). This little patch of land sits along the Mississippi River and the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, better known as the Industrial Canal. This area offers up excellent views of the City of New Orleans and some front row seats to the river boats passing by. Area has been pup friendly but due to its quite yet semi sketchy nature a leash is recommended. There are a few abandoned buildings nearby complete with mattresses, broken glass, and plenty of drug paraphernalia. Watch your step. Near the end of the land it drops down beyond the levee the a naturally made sandy area I hesitate to call a beach. You can usually find some campers set up in this area but typically they keep to themselves. Overall this little hidden gem is a decent little retreat without going outside the city. Feel free to bring a folding chair, blanket, and some suds for some r&r.

He was impatient and seemed like he didn't want to be there. If you don't have any experience riding horses, this is not the place for you. (You can check one of two boxes for any experience from riding 0-10 times or more than 10 times.) The horse, Oreo, only wanted to eat grass, and I struggled as soon as we got to the park. We were told both horses were calm. The guide barked instruction from the front of the other rider instead of coming over to explain. He just kept telling me to kick the horse harder and pull the reins harder. I would pull the reins up and the horse would immediately put his head back down to eat grass. I tried multiple times to get him away from the grassy area. I was afraid and felt unstable, so I grabbed the saddle and the guide fussed at me for grabbing the saddle. He repeated the same instructions over again, which weren't working, and eventually came over to me. I ended up being terrified on top of the horse. So, the guide called someone to come out and help. I didn't feel safe at that point and just asked to get down. I ended up walking back and will never get on another horse after this experience. There's no refunds. It was a total waste of time. The other workers didn't seem to believe me when I complained about the guide (big guy named Lane, I think) until the one other rider explained how disengaged the guide acted. My friend has done a bunch of trail rides and never experienced such bad service. Save your money and go do something else. This stable doesn't care about its riders.
