Absolutely breathtaking. That's how I felt walking through sunken gardens on a beautiful summer day. Just wow, the way everything is planted here, so organized, well thought out. It's the perfect place to go get fresh air while enjoying Mother Nature. If you love plants and flowers, come here. You won't regret it. There's a parking lot. It's free. It's impossible to give this place less than 5 stars. read more

Took my wife and our small dog to the garden this evening. It was a hot hot day so it wasnt that busy tonight. The park was lovely and in great condition. It was well kept and clean. It had benches and ledges all over to sit, view and rest. We even made use of the water fountain for both us and our dog on the way out. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Lincoln to visit. Even on a hot day it's beautiful and there are places in the shade to sit. I highly recommend going in late April or early May when you can see tons of beautiful butterflies. read more

Very pretty! Wide variety of plants, flowers, and trees plus some sculptures. This place could be described as a hidden gem. Even though it was built as a public works project in 1930, it continues to be well-maintained and relevant. Despite being located next to a busy city street, it feels peaceful and serene. It's a perfect site to meander and thoughtfully contemplate the beauties of life. read more

A beautiful little spot near the children's zoo in Lincoln! Parking is decent with a small lot adjacent to the garden's entrance. Maybe a day when it's not 100 degrees F would have been a better day to visit... Lol Years ago my parents owned a greenhouse so I have a bit of a soft spot for things like this. Probably my favorite part of the gardens are the two small koi ponds and the collection of water lilies! I could sit near them, watching and listening. for hours. So relaxing! read more

Beautiful garden Flowers blooming in 3 seasons. Historic park. Great for photography of family, graduations, and graduation

What a beautiful garden! For a place that is free to wander around it's pretty great. I enjoy going to botanical gardens and nature spaces that I'm fully willing to support by paying for admission so having a beautiful place to visit that is free is great as well. Sunken Gardens has been in Lincoln for decades and has always been free. They do accepts donations if you'd like to help keep this place in good condition and continue to be a nice place for all to visit. Enjoy! read more

Sunken Gardens - Botanical Gardens Near Me - Lincoln, Nebraska

I greatly enjoyed visiting The Sunken Gardens. It was a lovely expericne and I had a plseasent time seeing the flowers, trees, and Koi Fish.

Beautiful gardens that were originally an old dump site with a wonderful story of how these gardens came about. While there we saw a wedding take place and another wedding party having pictures taken, a quinceañera and birthday photos. Obviously this is the place with the beautiful backdrop. A nice little stroll around with scattered benches to sit and chat or just reflect. It is not huge but still a delight. read more

Really cool spot to check out if you're in the area! Garden was very well maintained and all the flowers and plants were healthy and thriving. Moderate traffic on a Sunday morning. Took about 20 minutes to casually walk through, stop at the ponds to view the koi, and see the whole garden. read more

Beautiful spot in Lincoln, free to the public, beautiful flowers, Koi ponds and structures, not super big located at the corner of 27th and Capitol Pkwy, always enjoy stopping by when visiting the Lincoln Zoo. read more

This is a beautiful little flower gardens and ponds area on 27th Street in Lincoln. It's close to busy streets, but feels like a little oasis. When we visited, much of the flower beds were still covered with plastic, but the plants that were blooming were beautiful. There are a couple of ponds and waterfalls interspersed throughout. The gardens consist of the main area and a couple of off shoot parts, including a white flower area which had beautiful white tulips still blooming. We took a leisurely stroll through the peaceful gardens and then headed on our way. We have visited the gardens other times in the past where many flowers were in full bloom. Definitely worth stopping for a read more

Beautiful garden about one block large. The flowers are beautiful and the landscaping is quite nice. Won't take significant time to explore, but a great place to visit for a quick walk. Fully paved paths, so it would be a lovely place to both bring elderly parents or young kids. Witnessed a grown man's joy at having a dragonfly rest on his chest. Lovely spot for a cup of coffee. read more

I just moved to Lincoln from DC the beginning of this month. When I came to visit 5 years ago it was winter so the garden was closed. I live walking distance from the Sunken Gardens so I walk here pretty often. We don't have gardens like this in DC so it's a nice change. I've seen people take engagement photos here and I've been told people have their wedding photos taken here. It's a beautiful setting definitely good for any photo shoot. If you're here to visit you should definitely check the Sunken Gardens out! read more

I was so excited to learn about this when I was looking for a botanical garden in Lincoln. I love that this is a free place to go. I love the set up and the flowers I was able to take pictures of - my only disappointment was that I wanted to spend hours there, but the bathrooms are locked up. This will be a place I got to again in the future. read more

What a beautiful gem in the city! This small oasis is worth the trip! Even though it was 90+ degrees, we still enjoyed the beautiful flowers! My only request is that the rose gardens across the street was advertised more. We only noticed it because of a sign that said rose garden parking on such-and-such street. I also wish the city would put in a pedestrian bridge or better crossing to get from the Sunken Gardens to the Rose Gardens. Both were absolutely lovely! read more

I've been here to the sunken gardens a few times and it's really very beautiful regardless of the time of year. This summer was amazing with all of the flowers in bloom, the sparkling koi ponds, and the relaxing shaded areas with benches. This fall I also enjoyed the huge kale and chard plants that line the walkways and while there aren't as many flowers, just the greenery and trees are beautiful. Not to mention the koi are still super active. One of my favorite areas is the dome with the interwoven leaves, squirrels and tree branches. When it's lit up at night it's really stunning. This is a lovely little place nestled in Lincoln. Perfect for a relaxing stroll, a reading spot, or a casual date. read more

I came across these gardens almost by accident-- I had heard of them before, but just caught a flash of bright flowers out the corner of my eye driving by one day. Made a stop and so glad I did- this place is MAGICAL. These gardens are so beautiful and tranquil and obviously very well taken care of, which I'd imagine is a lot of hard work. Thank you to those that make these gardens such a lovely place to enjoy!!! read more

The most beautiful spot in Lincoln. Aside from the State Capitol & Memorial Stadium, I would wager that the Sunken Gardens are also the most photographed spot in Lincoln. It's a very popular spot for outdoor weddings, wedding photos, & senior portraits. Lincoln Parks renovated & re-landscaped the gardens in 2005. It's a great detour along the bike path to stop & smell the roses. Among the beautiful beds of flowers, there are koi ponds, fountains, and a large gazebo which is lit at night. There are public restrooms located next to the gazebo. The gardens got their start as a public works project during the Great Depression. You can read about it on their website: http://lancaster.ne.gov/city/parks/sunken/index.htm read more

Amazing, amazing spot to visit in Lincoln-- total vestige of the Depression era, incredibly well kept. Colorful and lush, and in such a surprising place, right by majorly busy streets. There are two gorgeous koi ponds, statues, grasses and petals and colorful leaves, an intricate dome with an engraved quote by the architect of the place. Such a unique oasis that's at once surprising and logically contextual right by downtown Lincoln. read more
