This small park along the Susquehanna River bank has a great view of Independence Island and is alleged as the best place in the city to catch the fireworks show. The park was imrpoved during the early 20th Century as part of the "City Beautiful" movement (see the marker nearby, https://www.yelp.com/biz/j-horace-mcfarland-historical-marker-harrisburg?hrid=H1tuZtTltnpgTd2V1YKACg). The "sunken" configuration is a result of it being placed here in the excavated basements of the riverfront neighborhood known as "Hardscrabble" that was demolished to make way for the park and improvements to the waterfront.
The park is laid out as a formal garden, complete with a gazebo. Definitely a great spot for a photo shoot, especially if you have better weather than the rainy drizzle that I did.
