Graduated almost 7 years ago. It was hard. The people are serious. But if you need this place, that's what you need. To take a hard, serious assessment of what your life has been and what you want it to be. Honestly if you're reading this now, you're probably just looking for excuses. Is there a spa? No. There are beautiful grounds that twinkle with frozen dew on crisp clear mornings. Isn't that enough? And do you - the addict reading this right now - think you deserve a spa? You don't. Seven years ago I drove myself away from my family to sundown. I was alone, I was scared. But I was more scared to not go. Of what I had to lose. Which was an awful lot. To the extent it was a choice, it was the best one I ever made. But it was that or live alone, die in a gutter maybe. You don't have a choice either. I recently graduated from the Ranch for both alcohol and drug addiction. This was my first time at inpatient treatment. I am so grateful for the staff and magic that the Sundown M Ranch has to offer. My counselor, Barb, has a passion for sobriety and recovery that is infectious. She gives detailed, professional and compassionate care to her parents. The other counselors were also very willing to help if Barb wasn't available. It is very easy to tell that they are passionate about their work and truly want to see every patient succeed in their recovery. I'm also part of the LGBTQ+ community. I was treated no differently than any other patient. I was accepted and respected for my nonbinary status. My pronouns, they/them, were respected and remembered by the counselors, house managers, administrative staff, housekeepers and kitchen staff. Every employee at the Ranch works to ensure the comfort and safety of every patient in their care. The food is incredible, the group therapy, lectures, one on one time with my counselor and interactions were very positive. The Ranch was truly there to help me save my own life and abstain from drugs and alcohol during treatment. I am 47 days sober and working every day to treat my chronic disease of addiction. Thank you so much to everyone involved at the Sundown M Ranch for the loving and compassionate care I received. Apparently there is a prerequisite at SMR that every employee from the janitors up to the medical director, including, but not limited to "counselors", directors, etc., are all in some stage of recovery from meth, fentanyl, alcohol, heroine, and / or combinations there-of. There is a high level of deception, lies, nepotism, abuse of drugs by both residents and staff (I have witnesses and proof; feel free to contact me directly). Many counselors are "fresh" into recovery and staff had been dismissed for drug abuse. Discharge Summaries are highly inaccurate, inadequate, and full of lies. It is an extremely unsafe environment where physical violence and verbal hostility amongst residents (patient) is not addressed. There is documented and witnessed sexual intercourse amongst male and female residents that goes unaddressed and these same residents are granted their certificates and graduate. I have personally witnessed these activities myself, attempted to report these to staff, and was terminated prematurely after they had already received full payment from the insurance company. I have reported this to Molina Health Care and the Washington State Health Care Authority. They have other complaints about this facility and have communicated that they are working and investigating ongoing complaints identical to this. read more

I wouldn't recommend this horrible facility to my worst enemy much less friends or family. TERRIBLE FACILITY IMO Sundown M Ranch is a dysfunctional treatment center that causes more pain and trauma to patients than actual treatment. The facilities' mission statement reads {Sundown M Ranch is committed to providing treatment of the highest quality at affordable prices by a well-trained and deeply caring staff of experienced professionals.} My experience while in their care was the antithesis of that false statement on their website. During my stay there, I was not given sleep medication that I have been taking for 25 years, despite the intake coordinator's assurances. As a result of not receiving my medication for sleep, I became so physically exhausted that my immune system deteriorated, and I contracted both Covid & Influenza B I had to be taken to the Yakima hospital. Upon my return, I was still forced to participate in sessions to the point where I was vomiting in the halls, in the cafeteria, and lecture sessions. AFTER multiple failed attempts to see the doctor because he was only treating detoxing patients and could not see patients for "other matters", I was then told that all medication has to go through my counselor. SMR policies regarding medical care are inconsistent and cause patients to needlessly suffer physical and mental anguish. It was at this point I informed the Director of Programs Alicia Egan that I was leaving the facility because they were unable to provide me adequate medical care. During this interaction, Alicia attempted to gaslight me into believing I was experiencing "acute withdrawals" and not really sick! It was only after threatening to file a complaint with the Department of Health, that I received my mediocre medical attention. Needless to say, I did not have a high level of confidence in this facility, but I continued to stay and do the work. On my 18th day at SMR, I experienced the most egregious act of unprofessionalism I have ever encountered. My counselor, Michelle Flynn called me "evil" and said that "I don't even deserve a family to go home to." Even though I had a very mild background of substance use. This upset me greatly, and it also upset the group members, as they expressed concern and were terrified to share their first step due to the behavior, and words used by our counselor. That evening I called my husband and told him what my counselor said. He became irate and wanted to pull me out immediately. He said that he would be there first thing in the morning to pick me up and I agreed. Before my husband arrived, after I had requested to leave, I was pulled into Alicia's office by my counselor, Michelle Flynn where a male staff member I have never met or seen named Eric Fleming was also sitting in the room. The office door closed and all three of these "professionals"took turns degrading me, condescending me and questioning my mental health. At one point, Eric Fleming began to speak under his breath to Alicia saying, ridiculously negative hurtful things about me while I was literally speaking. It was at this point Alicia said to me "I see you're trying to run again". WTW?!? I have never been treated with such vitriol in my entire life. When my husband arrived, he spoke to an administrator, a supervisor and my counselor where he expressed serious concerns regarding the verbiage used to patients, the denial of medically necessary care and the negative impact this program has on its vulnerable clients in their care. My husband and I pointed out there is a significant power differential between Administration, counselors and patients and they abuse their authority. I experienced denial and arrogance from professional staff members & administrators when challenged on their procedures. I heard verbal abuse. I felt bullied. I am sad because this facility will probably be shut down in the future if things do not change. I witnessed professionals talking the talk and not walking the walk. Not being comfortable with being uncomfortable. This facility should be shutdown. read more

i'd give Sundown an 8.5 out of 10, still the best treatment I been fortunate to experience. The nursing staff was just amazing, compassionate and very emotionally supportive. The reason for the 8.5 is my counselor there was new, and let his own issues and temper control problems interfere with my group several times. At my graduation, as I thanked the many people who had been of help to me, over 200 of the clients stood up, and cheered, truly amazing and I will never forget that. Highly reamended. My son was there for two weeks and doing well according to the weekly counselors. But the weekend staff didn't know anything about how to handle conflicts, so when he had an issue with his roommate, he was discharged. He was told you get two write ups and then discharged. Nope that was a lie and when he was called into the managers office she was rude and dismissed him without letting him talk or explain himself. Please do not take your child here. These counselors are not qualified to treat your children and have no understanding of what recovery looks like. It's unfortunate but I'm sure they have a hard time finding qualified staff to work in the middle of no where. I would also like to add that the staff is extremely rude, and have no business working in a facility where you need caring and empathetic employees. read more

Wanted my kid to relapse before she went in (she was currently clean). These days, that's a death sentence. Red flag. Wouldn't take a referral from our local outpatient adolescent drug rehab. Parent referrals only. So, no clinical referrals? Red flag. Read the other reviews, yikes. Kids not ready for help might give poor reviews. But when parents say don't send your kid, red flag. Not equipped for kids with mental health issues or behavior issues, and those things go hand in hand with addiction. This place used to be highly recommended. I'm not sure what's changed or if they're just not well equipped to handle adolescents and should stick to adults. Either way, this was not the place for us. read more

Ok so to even get into this place you have to endure a process of calling to check with them r everyday to see if they will take you. No biggie no problem i did that for some time for about 2 weeks. Then all of a sudden they call and say they can take you on said date however i live 4 hours from the place so getting a ride was and is very difficult so i rescheduled 2 times and the third was told to start the process all over again. I did that once again and was finally called back again and scheduled for a day later- however was not able to get all my affairs in order to be able to make it there on time so this time i was told they couldn't allow me to cancel or reschedule anymore and that i couldn't get 2 more days to take care of things. A 30 day or more block of time in anyone's life is substantial and does require some planning as far as making someone feel compelling comfortable with not having tons of stress to not lose everything they own- if a treatment center is really about the patient then why are they not considerate to all circumstances that go along side addiction and dealing with addicts. Obviously some empathy communication and actual true concern in any given situation as such should come into play with these people however they're was not ever any shown. Im actually glad to not waste my time going to a place that doesn't exhibit these qualities with there patients. Some people don't want to go to treatment but they're are allot of us who have been- know what is about and really do want to be there to get the help needed. It's discouraging to say the least but more disappointing like so many things in life when seeking real true solid assistance or help. We addicts deal with let down in the community we deal with already and having a solid foundation or place to start to build trust from those claiming to want to help isn't the way to start any foundation when dealing with addicts. Sundown ranch should really learn the core to compassion-i know they probably deal with people and there stories of whatever quit a bit but making sure to not lose the real reason they are supposed to be there which is for the patient looks to me like they have completly lost sight of. Everything the website claimed they were about was totally not how they acted- treated- or exhibit and that's just before actually going there so I'm left to believe that all the negative reviews for this facility probably are true indeed. My son was barely there for 10 days and he got kicked out because another kid picked a fight with him. We had just visited that morning and my son said "this is so and so, he's been trying to get kicked out" and the kid said "yep" and waved at me. They didn't even have a problem with each other. I even told this to the staff. They are very quick to say "you don't even want to be sober" while the kid is still going through the withdrawal stage. He said they sit around with nothing to do a lot of the time, not even a television. They constantly threaten to kick them out and tell them not to talk to the girls even though they have them in the same building, sharing a break type room with snack machines. How do you sit in a room and act like someone's not there? It was strange because on one hand, the counselor was telling me all these things about my son I didn't know, yet they'd tell him "you're not opening up enough". Mind you, this is a kid who has stonewalled every therapist he's had for years. He's finally letting someone in, and they say it's not enough. It just seems like a lot of people who are just doing the job with little patience. Very quick to get rid of someone with deeper issues. Now I'm receiving emails checking on him asking how they can help. You kicked him out when he needed help in the beginning stages. He's spiraling now. You think I haven't researched every facility on my own already? Finding help for youths is so incredibly difficult, and the one place we got him into after months of searching, tossed him out. If your kid has a serious problem, don't bother. Such a disappointment. Read the reviews first, I'm not the only one disappointed with the experience. *if there's a good review, it's typically from the adult center. Not the youth facility. read more

I've been to 4 treatment centers in the last 18 years. Sundown hands down is the very best I've been to. I learned more about myself and finally found my own spiritual awakening at Sundown. So much history there also. If I ever need to go again, Sundown will be it. And the food is delicious! 4 stars because their whole process with medication is unnecessary and time consuming for patients. I've never experienced it quite like that. Everything seemed okay at Sundown Ranch at first. Within about nine days I wanted to leave. Upper management told me that I could check my cell phone voicemail and texts once a week, due to the fact that I was/am in a brutal custody battle over my young child. Another person in my group was granted 2x a week cell phone access for in my opinion, lesser reasons. Upon receiving my discharge summary, I noticed that serious information was stated incorrectly. Wrong name, wrong substance addictions, and wrong pharmaceuticals in use upon arrival. I called and talked to my counselor personally yesterday, he said this information could not be changed, and an addendum was sent to follow for corrections. He also stated that "we" made these mistakes. No, Sundown Ranch made these mistakes, and now I have to turn paperwork into the courts with incorrect information. Not okay. This place needs to be held accountable for their inaccuracies! Do your jobs! read more

F**K SUNDOWN M RANCH! As a medical treatment facility that are trying to rehabilitate and help addicts, they are VERY PICKY and CHOOSY to whom they facilitate to. In my short experience, I've gotten the impression that the staff is privileged and honestly don't have any EMPATHY for their patients. Starting from Issac, the counselor, (Mind you even though as Amazing of a counselor he was, had 0 advocacy position for his patients. So....... What the hell can a counselor do for you at that point if not be able to stand up for his patients and give them a fighting chance at recovery? ) all the way to Alishia, the director (Who is the privileged, misunderstanding, has 0 tolerance for addicts, and overall is NOT a DECENT HUMAN BEING! ) I was a patient that had just spiraled from my substance abuse over the summer of 2022 and was admitted in late October. Only within 5 days was i kicked/threatened to have the cops called for an emotional reaction. (I.e: Punching a wall with 0 property destruction, not even a freaking scratch! ) In treatment, we are taught to unify with our group and learn how to create a bond with our group members (Aka: The Fellowship). They are VERY CLEAR on that in which i took it to heart and truly got attached with my group members. One after another they started dropping like flies. Which now i understand shouldn't have affected me due to their actions for getting kicked out, but also contradicts what they implement the importance of peer support from the get-go. Anyways, after one of the other patients which whom I felt I had the closest connection to got kicked out, i started crying angrily down the halls and punched a wall as he left. With 0 warning, with 0 behavior contracts, they kicked me out. ( It blows my mind to think with as many staff members they have, not even 1 staff member, more importantly, my counselor couldn't step me aside or even simply ask: "Are you okay?" when they saw me in emotional distraught and literally crying my freaking eyes out as i walked down the halls. ) Also, they threatened to call the cops on me if i didn't choose to take a bus back to my hometown or be dropped off at the Mission in Yakima within the hour. They gave me false information about my health insurance and admitting to another facility in which led me to a DARK and GRIM mentality of using, even borderline suicide. In despair and misery i knew i wasn't going back home after less than a week. So i gave up and chose to be dropped off with the bums and addicts in Yakima in which i went to the pawn shop to go relapse instantly. read more

I'm a daughter of an alcoholic and a mother of an alcoholic. Sundown M Ranch helped my family begin a sober life. My father went to many of the State's rehab programs but Sundown was the program that changed his life. It was unfortunate that my daughter had to resort to rehab for her alcoholism but she embraced their program and wanted the help and education to regain her life. Their family participation program toward the end of the patient's rehab assist patients and families to express their feelings to one another on how the addiction has affected them and educates families on addiction. They offer complimentary accommodations and meals onsite for the family in this program. The Ranch grounds are so beautiful and peaceful providing a wonderful place to recover. The lectures are from recovering addicts and resonate with me still. Thank you to each and every staff member for what you do. PS: Know that rehab is covered under private insurance plans, although there is a co-pay! read more

absolutely horrible the staff watched me get sexually assaulted and didn't do anything abt it to help, they had bed bugs, they allowed a girl that brought fentanyl and blues into the facility, they refused to put me on withdrawal medications even tho me and my mom both stated that i needed it they wouldn't cuz "i didn't have enough in my system" so i had to sit through all the withdrawals w out any physical or mental help, i had a staff member stare at me while i was naked and refused to leave my room when i didn't have a towel on,i had other patients threatened to rape me,i tried to kms and apparently it was my fault and they refused to let me call my mom after too, and they let another patients dad come in after visiting hours when she had a RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST HIM. they absolutely don't care about the safety of these patients. and don't get me wrong i had a great time in the beginning very few of the many staff members at the youth facility actually helped me a lot but the rest of them didn't give a shit abt the patients only the money which is fucked up and idk how they still have their jobs. read more

I love the program, helped me get sober I was there in April of 2021. But stay away from the family program! I don't know what the deal is with there family counseling but they mention and try to convince every significant other to leave them or walk away. Just don't get it, it's happened to everyone that I know that's been in the program it's absolutely insane. Don't get me wrong great program, it's the family sessions they aren't mandatory. I have been there with my two sons on two separate times. They are professional. Their counselors are constructive in helping people realize how to confront their issues. I was also helped when I realized I was codependent. My oldest son is going back in two weeks and I have confidence he will remain sober. I wouldn't want my family member any where else! This was the worst decision I ever made putting my 17 year old in their care as an inpatient . A fellow youth with 6 others watching defecated in my sons room. Only one was disciplined and removed. If your kid is not put there by the legal system do not trust that he will be safe and get the care you are promised on check in. It is a dangerous group mentality and we were told there were rules and everyone had to follow them. What a joke,these kids know where the cameras are and basically know they can harass and ridicule and if it is told to staff they go after the person and call them a snitch. DEFECATE in their room,Flip my son and his dad off ( out of cameras of course) when we pulled my son out and were leaving a whole group with a supervisor standing next to them started jeering us. No discipline occurred. The staff are not in control of what happens there. Kids are bullied and harassed. We trusted his safety at this inpatient youth facility. It claims to be peer based therapy but how can you get therapy when it is full of delinquents now who do not care if they get better. What started all this harassment. In group therapy he told the other kids the should be taking it seriously and learn. The ranch also makes you pay up front for 45 days. My son stayed 4 and they are holding onto our money already knowing what our refund is to be just as they figured out what our portion was. We have to wait to see what insurance pays... they already know what it will pay. We also were told by Liz we could get the $150 cash we paid for vending machine items. When I got home and called the administration said we should of got it when we were there. We were told we couldn't. Maybe the adult facility is better. But the youth facility is like one flew over the coo coo's nest. It is a scary place unless you are a bullying punk and that is the mentality of all the youth in there. Staff does nothing but review tape and they are lacking in real everyday discipline. My son knew he would get in a fight to get them to stop and that really is the ONLY thing they kick you out for. Oh and crapping in someone's else's too m and smearing it around while 6 others watched in amusement. Only one got kicked out Guess they need the money more than screening kids for their level of care needed. Those kids needed and need to be in a more security based lock down vs running the show. Update: I filed a complaint with quality assurance and 3 of the main administers were interviewed and stated that there was never an occurrence of anyone ever defecating in a residents room. Stated the only incidents were of things getting stolen out of residents rooms. There also was no record of this incident ever occurring. I'm very confused on why they are covering this incident up? I sat in a meeting with 2 people who said they reviewed the tape of residents going into my sons room interviewed them and determined the person who defecated because he thought it was funny and they sent this person home. His parent was during 6 hours to get him. But yet there was no record of any of this? All I had hope for was that they would monitor their cameras live to stop things from on happening vs after something happened. I am very concerned about the safety of the kids in their facility. Even more so now I know they are covering it up. Update: Well we just had a friends grand son go there and he didn't make it very far until the juveniles there made a rap song putting him down all in front of a counselor who did nothing. How can you get sober in an unsafe and no support from peers atmosphere. That is what the say they offer. So our friends son stood his ground and was kicked out for fighting. If your child is court ordered and has to go here I guess it is the best out of all evils but if you are private pay and your child is not in the juvenile system they will see they aren't as hardened and will target the while the staff just ignores it. This place is complete garbage! Sundown M Ranch does not even deserve 1 star.I went to Sundown M Ranch thinking I was going to be in a great environment to get clean and sober, it was the exact opposite. People were drinking and drugging my entire stay! The patients were even having sex. This place treats adults as if they were juveniles. Here is a few of their rules. No hats, no gum, no talking on their prison style payphones until your sixth day, no bringing any sort of food so they can't overcharging with their vending machines, No beverages in the hallway unless you have one of their specialty clear water bottles. And many many more that have absolutely nothing to do with your recovery. All of the staff have been through this program at least once, and some multiple times. Which is normally a good thing, but I could tell that a few of the staff were still using. As soon as I was able to use the phone I contacted my family and got out of there ASAP. This is one of the cheapest facilities for a reason, and it's not because they are looking out for their patients it's because this place is no good I myself would never recommend sundown am ranch to anybody adult or child. If you're afraid about finding a chemical dependency rehab center and unsure of whether you'd benefit from the program of recovery offered or the cleanliness of the facility, I'd say, have no fear about Sundown. It's located on a huge isolated property that is serene, scenic and beautiful. The facility is spotless and really more like a 4star hotel. Laundry is all provided and done for you, good prepared meals in a dining hall, large, pretty private rooms that are shared between 2 people of the same gender, but are really kinda separated/ semi-private. 24hour coffee shop (everything is included in the cost of treatment, have all you want). The lectures are informative, group counseling was incredibly beneficial, the counselors are awesome, everything about it was great and it changed my life. Of course, you've got to honestly want to get sober to stay sober once you're out, but as rehabilitation center, it's amazing! Go get help now and a joyous, wonderful, sober life will come to you if you work for it. read more

If you or someone you love is struggling with alcohol/drug dependency do not hesitate to call Sundown. By the end of my stay I didn't want to leave these people actually care and you get out what you put in. This is one of the top rehab centers in the country with very high success rates. It's very clean and safe. There's a teen facility as well. They are big on not interacting with the opposite sex so do not try to meet a new girlfriend/boyfriend here. read more

This is an EXCELLENT program. At a desperate time Sundown M Ranch came to the rescue. First the cost. This place is not trying to take advantage of people in need and charging them life ruining amounts for treatment. No this place is very affordable and I'm very thankful for that, and when you compare the cost of what other rehabs charge it's incredible. And the value of everything you get is amazing. The housing and food was very good. Especially the food, it's was very 'home cooking', but man let me tell you, I was looking forward to the menu everyday, and it is all you can eat. While the facility feels like a time capsule and like you're walking into 1985, it is meticulously maintained. I was particularly impressed with the 40 acres of flawless green lawn in a desert environment. This is all indication of how they take great care of the business and how they run this place like a well oiled machine. As for the program itself, they have been doing this for 40 years and you can see how the experience has payed off. Most of the employees are recovering addicts themselves, so they really understood what was at stake, and they have this process down to a T. And very importantly for us, there was no religious influence at all. They really work on getting people to uncover their underlining issues and provide all the support necessary, like medical care, group counseling, grief counseling, peer counsling etc. It is a 30 day program and they have a family weekend, where they house close family members and include them into the treatment. This part was amazing. It really gave us the opportunity to really get into the issues and expose what needed to be said and addressed. The daily program was laid out everyday from 8am-5pm with different activities, counseling sessions and lectures. Like everything else, it was run like a well oiled machine. When I asked other patients in the program who had gone to other rehab programs how it compared, they said this was by far the best rehab they had been too. This was a life changing experience. Period. My family member has been clean and sober ever since. And it has changed our family for the better. I can't say enough good things about this program. I went to sundown in 2008 and it was truly life changing. I was so lost caught up in all my addictions and bad behaviors and in a toxic relationship. Sundown gave me tools and a foundation that I will never forget. It is not a cure all, people have to want sobriety but after going there life was not the same. I still carry my papers around that I have from then to reflect back on. I believe they plant seeds in us of forgiveness, acceptance, strength, love and so much more. These seeds grow through out time. Some people get it right away others choose not to. The the seeds are planted and it is life changing..... I agree with John. I went to this dump last month for relapse prevention. I had nine months sober, but was really feeling the urge to use again. I thought sundown m ranch would be able to guide me in the right direction so I could keep my sobriety. Turns out there is just as much dope in this facility as there is on the streets. My roommate was detoxing off alcohol and they gave her bottles after bottles of benzo's. Benzo's are my drug of choice so eventually I ended up relapsing at sundown M Ranch. I would not recommend this facility to anybody that truly wants recovery read more
