Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and so, here is mine: I am a parent of an Oakwood student and am in AWE of the tremendous job every faculty member does. Every teacher participates in my child's safety and support in him becoming the best that he can be. The principal in particular surprises me in his constant involvement and excitement about his job. I love the enthusiasm! I have found nothing but kind, loving and helpful teachers and staff. PARTICULARLY, the Kindergarten teachers impress me. They are (all 6 of them) kind, patient, amazing educators. They are wonderful! Not only do I send MY children to Oakwood but I'm known to encourage/pursuade others to send their children... and not one have been disappointed. Based on my experience, observation, and discussions with the actual Parent of attending child, my review is as follows: The school appears to be an average structured school with the basic parent teacher meetings, etc. The child had no real complaints about it. My suggestions and observations are as follows: * Have a more direct communication channel between the parent and teacher, without child * Have any and all documentations electronically sent to parent's email or even posted to drop box or site, as children do not always provide on time. * Make it a requirement to have actual homework and book reading * All in all, there seems to be a little to much flexibility

She is a very smart girl. A Princess that is! She had no issues until going into 1st grade Mrs. McCormick yelled one to many times for my daughter that doesn't get yelled at home. I loved what I did and he took that away from me. I was involved in an accident where I panicked and back the bus into a cement fence wall. This was due to me freaking out about never going into Sun City due to complaints from residences. I made a wrong turn into a neighborhood panicked and tried to hurry up and get out. I reported it and was written up. A few weeks went past and I had gotten a night field trip. Upon returning to the school I thought I had sideswiped a gate. After students got off the bus I walked around and seen no damage. I returned to the yard where I walked around again, no damage. This was a Friday night. On Tuesday morning and afternoon an office person drove the bus I drove Friday night and as I went on my route Tuesday afternoon she was in the yard yelling about the big scratch that was down the driver side of the bus. I went to work on Monday and Tuesday no problems. On Wednesday Phil came to my bus as I was checking it and told me there was damage to the bus I drove Friday night and I was yelling at me that I was not allowed to drive. I swore it was not me and was crying because my job was on the line. Sure enough the person in the office that probably did the damage still had her 20+ year job and I didn't have mine. We did pre and post checks of our busses. How come it took them 2 full business days to pin this on me when other people drove that bus since Friday including the office personnel. I lost my job for something I did not do. Be aware for favoritism working here. As of this writing September 23 2021 Peoria Unified has stopped bussing due to bus driver storage. This job allows me to have the time off I want such as summer breaks, extended time through the holidays as well as time during the day to get done any appointments or tasks that need to be done. They went through 3 teachers in one school year. The assistant teacher Ms. Ann is an older lady and is not physically fit enough to do this job she is always sitting down and making rude comments. The other parents will not speak to you if your not Hispanic, I invited some kids to my sons bday party none of them so much as replied to me. If you say Hi you wont get anything back. The classrooms (a trailor split in half) smell pretty bad and cleaning and sanitizing doesn't happen very often. There is no real curriculum they let the kids pretty much play with centers the whole time with maybe 10 minutes of story/ carpet time. So no your child will not learn their colors or alphabet forget any type of phonics or phonemic awareness. Its pretty much just socializing for kids, they claim to try to prepare them for kindergarten this is not true neither of my children learned anything I didn't teach them with my own lessons at home. if your kid doesn't fit in its hours of being ostracized not allowed to play certain centers. You wont be made aware of it so volunteer often so you can see how your child is being treated.
