I will never return here. I purchased a package and the following week the had a sale and would not give me a credit. They should let a person know if there will be an upcoming sale. I want to start by saying that the tanning beds themselves have always been clean, and work very well. The girls upfront have always been kind and welcoming.. BUT very pushy with lotion sales. To the point it just about ruins my experience when I walk in. I understand there is a quota to meet. I myself have worked at a tanning salon for a few years. But when someone says "no thanks" once, that should be it. I think I have to say no 3-4 times before getting somewhat of an eye roll, and then being told that I shouldn't be tanning without one. Friendly staff, beds are always are always clean and ready upon arrival. Not fond of the constant attempt to sell me lotion but I get it.

staff is nice but I'm tired of them determining how long I can tan. I've been in Mexico for two weeks and they said I could only tan for 5 minutes when I went back because I hadn't been in for "a while". I'm darker than the staff! You're not my mother. I can determine how long I tan not you. My favorite was once the staff said that I couldn't go in my faster bed for full time even though I had went full time in the fastest bed the day before. I could go full time if I was willing to upgrade. Nice job of trying to up sell. I've been a member for about 15 years but I'm thinking of changing to a different business. read more

The girls don't understand the contracts that you never get to see. When the promotion said "Monthly membership" I asked if I needed to call and cancel prior to the next month. I was told no since it was "monthly". That is not the case. I used to always cancel ahead of the next month and was told I didn't need to. When I call customer service I was told the agreement that I signed says it's open ended. When does anyone ever receive the agreement? I trusted the girl that signed me up. While that is the most convenient place to go, the prices are outrages and will not be going there again! read more

I've been to a variety of Sun Tan City locations in the Des Moines and Ames area, but this one has always been my favorite! Such a nice facility with new beds and a variety of tanning amenities (different bed levels, spray booths & products). They always inform me of lotion deals & I've never had to wait for a bed! The girls at the front desk even remember my name. Now sure how they manage that with all the ladies that come in, but I'm impressed! Ankeny, Iowa location read more

Unfortunately I had a ridiculously terrible experience at this location. I have been to this location before and had a positive customer service/spray tan experience. This time however left me with a uneven, way too dark spray tan that was recommended by an employee. With Prom only being the next day I panicked when I got home and saw the full effect of this awful spray tan. I walked back into the store to resolve this issue and they stated they could not do refunds. The lady helping me stated that I was being rude and continuously blamed the fiasco on me. In addition, somehow I never had an account created for the "real me", my account was for a completely different person. That is just terrible management and it leaves me quite skeptical. I understand that it is NOT the workers fault however, I was treated terribly and I would personally not come back to this location. read more

My wife and I just got back from a trip to Hawaii. Before we left, we decided that we should tan so we would not get burnt on our vacation. Neither of us had done anything like this before and did not know what to expect. The staff at your Ankeny location were very helpful with getting us started. Not only with what product we would need, but also making sure we did not get burnt when we first started. They made sure we knew how to work the tanning beds and took the time to show me what to do when I had questions. We had a great time on vacation and made comments when we saw other people who were burnt that they should have gone to Sun Tan City first. read more

There is one employee here who has a habit of shutting the bed off while people are tanning. I've been here several times. One time the bed shut off when I was seven minutes into my tan and the girl acted like she didn't shut it off. I had to get dressed go out to the desk and ask her to reset it so that I can finish my tan that I wanted to do for 17 minutes. The second time they shut it off is when my wife was tanning and exactly at 7 o'clock they shut the bed off when they close and didn't let her finish her tan for 7 more minutes. They just shut the power off and said oh well we're closed. No apologies or anything. What kind of place does that? Rude. read more

Great staff! I just stopped by because I needed to get a spray tan for a wedding tomorrow and the place that I was supposed to get an airbrush tan at ended up having their sprayer break right before my appointment so I took the chance and hoped that I could get in even though it was basically closing time. I went in and the girl at the counter said there were 2 other people already waiting to use the spray tan booth. They only had one open since it was closing time which I can totally understand. But hearing my dilemma she said she'd try to ask her manager and her manager opened up another one of their booths and set me up even though it was technically after closing which I am soo appreciative of! They were friendly and still helped me decide which was the best color to go with since I hadn't tanned in over 2 years so I couldn't remember what I had done before. It's a clean facility with plenty of tanning options and before I've always had good service but today was great service so just wanted to say thanks again! read more

Much more friendly here than in Ames. The sound system for the beds are much more enjoyable here too. They have the option for CD, radio, or Apple devices. These beds have built in fans as well! There are also more beds as well. read more

The customer service representatives that work at this location are very helpful and polite every time I tan. I can always ask any questions I have about different beds and products, and they are always more than willing to help. The Ankeny location is not the closest location to me, but I drive the extra time because I know I will get much better customer service and all around experience at the Ankeny location than some of the others.
