I have had an online subscription for a number of years and when I saw that the No Kings march event was not mentioned either Sat or Sunday I cancelled my subscription. They take advantage of you when you cancel. The effective date of cancellation is not on your monthly billing date, it is a month later. read more

After all the back and forth I had on January 3rd, escalating it to a supervisor, being told that my account was cancelled and that my card would be refunded $79 for the charges I never authorized in the first place - I now see NEW charges as of January 6th in the amount of $34. I disputed the charges with my bank and I called the Sun Sentinel customer service number - to re-reconfirm, once again, that my account is **cancelled**. I provided the confirmation code they gave me earlier. They confirmed that my account was cancelled as of January 4th. So why do I have a $34 charge on my card from January 6th? Their answer: "We have no information as to why you were charged." My company was cyber attacked last year, and a lot of companies have been dealing with the same thing. It is NOT okay to be this careless with people's credit cards, even on a normal day, but especially not with the way things are right now. They have no information on a charge because they are being careless with people's data. I demanded that they take all of my payment info out of their system. They fought me initially, saying "we just won't charge your card" then it was "we'll take you off of autopay" and then they finally agreed to take my credit card information out of their systems altogether when I kept pushing. The newspaper hires workers from the Philippines to save money. Those people have poor English language skills and repeat over and over non stop our instructions. I only get newspapers on Wed & Sun... yet I have about 10 non-deliveries in the past 7 weeks. I've been told I'm the only customer in my development (75 homes... hard to believe). Consumer Affairs declined me filing a complaint saying it was personal, even when I described their deceptive practices of "double issues" and moving expiration dates sooner without any advise. Again, they renewed me 3 months early with no advise and have since credited me back on Amex. Although they now have me scheduled to receive papers until Nov (with all the missed issues), I told them to cancel, even though I'm losing money. I can't take the incompetence any more. read more

Signed up for a promo deal to read about miami sports. I entered my CC info, it was processed, but i was unable to create an account. I saw my CC was charged so i called and got someone with such a thick accent i could barely understand her. I was told that even though I was charged for the subscription today, the account would not be active for at least 2 days. Who does business like that? I've been a Sun Sentinel subscriber for over 20 years and have never experienced customer service this awful. If I could give them a minus 5 rating I would. I have a paid subscription that includes e-edition. The e-edition stopped opening 3 weeks ago. Kept getting a message that I reached a free article limit and offering a 6-month subscription @ $1. Then the same message became $1 for 1 year. Today, I received the same message $4 for 1 year!!! In the meantime, I could never access the e-edition that had already paid for. Contacted their foreign based 'customer service' six (6) times and wrote several online requests. They were always very apologetic and promised to escalate the problem and have it resolved within 24-48 hours. That was 3 weeks ago and nothing has been done. With all this wasted time and frustration, I have given up and will be canceling with the next renewal. Just to add insult to injury, I had subscribed for their promotion rate of $27.42 for 26 weeks billed each 13 weeks. I just received an invoice for the second term of this promo at $45.25. Having been a subscriber to Sunsentinal for many many years I have a complaint. When they changed to a third-party vendor for delivery, my service got very bad. For a given month, I get the paper on time approximate 3 - 5 times a month. Most of the time it comes after 8:00 am and the other times it comes after 9:00 am or later. I complained to the better business bureau and the paper's response was not acceptable. They didn't even post the complaint on the BBB website. I enjoy getting up in the morning and reading the paper while I eat breakfast. However, when it gets to my house after 9:00 am, I am already done eating breakfast and the paper is of no use to me. The paper is supposed to be delivered before 7:00 am. The Sunsentinal is now charging more for delivery, I'm paying more but I still don't get the paper on time. Why pay more for an unacceptable product. Very bad response from the Sunsentinal and it shows they have no grip on their product delivery and don't care if they deliver as promised. Sun Sentinel, does not even have a reporter covering the team, they use the AP to get their story. Bought a Groupon for 1 yr service. First few months went well. 2 day a week delivery. For the past 2 months, no delivery without calling for a redeliver. Super frustrating. Like a previous post, this has nothing to do with quality of Journalism. This has to do with complete fraud that is within their customer service/billing dept. After much research and experience it goes like this. Sign up for a trial service. Cancel the service and they will charge you anyway. Call customer service which is a trainwreck & they say a check has to be mailed. When they do mail a check, it is not signed. Mind you, they still have your debit info so they bill you again. This time they billed me $50.19 for something I never signed up for. After more than ten calls, told they can't refund card, the check is in the mail (5-14 days). Never comes. Call again, oh it takes 30 days. Never came. Call again and no one cares. It is one big circle of scam. How many tens of thousands of dollars have they scammed people? It truly is a shame Yelp does not allow zero stars because this paper deserves it. First there are the usual delivery issues (missing paper, wet paper, etc.). Those are bad enough. Even worse is the paper itself; it's mostly just ads. Very little news. I find more information just by listening to the radio than I do by reading this paper every day. What finally pushed me over the edge was a mailer I received from them on my account. It was just to let me know that my automatic payment was going to be made, which would be fine, but I had been thinking about canceling and in the mailer it stated that to do that I must call them. This seems odd since I have an account on their site and I should be able to go in there and cancel. I called and my call went to the Philippines. Tribune Publishing, the owner of Sun-Sentinel doesn't care about keeping jobs in America, so they outsource them to the Philippines. Fine. Very un-American but not illegal. The representative who answered the phone verified my information, then proceeded to argue with me over why I should keep my subscription. I finally lost my temper and demanded her manager. I got her supervisor. When I again demanded a manager I was placed on hold and never spoke with another human. I have sent a letter to Justin Dearborn, the Chief Executive Officer of Tribune Publishing, although I doubt that he'll care. Their decision to move their customer service department overseas clearly shows that they don't care about their customers. Or about their countrymen, for that matter. I, like everyone else, is so dissatisfied with them. My carrier quit a couple of weeks ago and since then, have only received the delivery on 2 days... I went to the better business site just to see and sure enough rated 1 star. They can't provide delivery services that you sign up for, have a bogus recording when you call "due to PRODUCTION issues, paper will not be delivered until 10am". This is bogus as I've always had my paper by 5 or 6am, until the previous delivery person quit. Am I to assume that the day my delivery person left, that's when they ran into PRODUCTION issues??? It's not production issues , it's delivery issues. In addition, the two times my paper was delivered since the new carrier started (??) it was before 10am.. I called on those days anyway just to see and that same recording was on.. it's just to cover their behind!! Then you never get the paper by 10, even though you requested redelivery... if you call after 10, they say they can't redeliver because you had to call by 9:30am lol. So it doesn't even make sense.. then they say a supervisor will call you back within 24 hours, NEVER HAPPENS.. all this while dealing with the agents in the phillipines.. (a local company has to farm out their call center to the phillipines??) I am going to issue a better business complaint as well (which resolutions appear to be handled by the phillipines as well). In addition, I'm going to contact the state attorney generals office and file a complaint as this is outright fraud. If you can't offer a service that you are advertising, then stop offering it. Last year I paid the Sun-Sentinel the amount requested for a FULL YEARS SUBSCRIPTION. Ten months in the subscription they told me they could not honor the price I had paid for a full year and needed to raise my rate. I pointed out that we had a contract for a full year of service not ten months. Their so-called "advocate" agreed and changed my account back to its original status. Three weeks late a "new" advocate said "sorry" we can't honor this new agreement and you have to pay us for an extra month even though I paid for a full year. I told them to cancel my subscription when the new rate was to start. To add insult to injury their carrier decided on his own to stop delivering the paper a week earlier that they said it would be done. Do not trust the Sun-Sentinel to honor its agreement(s) once you have paid for service. They will try and charge you more for less of a paper. Their advocates are only interested in "advocating" for the Sun Sentinel not their customers. My Dad has a subscription and so I've been reading his while I am visiting Fort Lauderdale. It's a solid paper and that's not entirely because they have a good comics section (they do!). There is a good amount of local and national and even some international news in there. This is a good thing and in an age where newspapers are dying, it's good to see that this city still has a decent paper. It's too bad that they don't sell the papers on the corners any more.
