Stayed here in late August this past summer and just booked again. The house was great, and the view you just can't beat.

The inn was comfortable with plenty of seating on the first floor for chatting. They have fire pit just across the street by the lake. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the nice weather and fire with Cedar Point off in the distance. Our room was cozy and well appointed. We had a super comfy bed and our own bathroom with shower. Sheets and blanket were perfect. Breakfasts were delicious and meticulously made with ingredients from their garden. My favorite was the frittata with veggies. Coffee, tea and water available 24/7. A nice place we'd happily return to on our next trip to the island.

Having been fortunate enough to stay in several B&Bs and having travelled extensively over the years for both business purposes and pleasure, I can attest that The Water's Edge Retreat is by far superior to all others. Tricia and Rick Kody, the owners and innkeepers, invest their hearts and labor into their delightful home, much less their finances, to create a special experience for their guests from start to finish. The home's common areas, rooms and property are simply immaculate, but feel comfortable to enjoy at the same time. The lake views from their home cannot be overstated. A Water's Edge literally means a water's edge, crossing a gentle lakeshore drive to their private deck sitting atop the lake and hearing the water break to the shore. If interested, a gentle descent of roughly 5-8 steps max down the shoreline rocks (medium sized, then increasingly smaller stones) allows you to get your feet wet, float, bounce around, or even swim laps in the shallow water there, a personal nirvana for me. As others have mentioned, Tricia's breakfasts are truly gourmet, also incorporating many locally sourced herbs and foods from their own gardens, the island, or across the pond in neighboring lake country / rural Ohio. The Innkeepers' 9:00 serving time is quite relaxed, in my experience at least, noting many B&Bs on the east coast and in Europe I have visited had 8:00 and even 7:00 a.m. serving times, which are all scheduled by design with a single starting time. Rick's friendly suggestions regarding all things Island allow you to customize your visit with a perfect balance of rest and play, as you see fit, and based on your interests. All guests are treated like family in the sense they feel they are cared for, but without overbearing intrusions into your comings and goings, as I have also experienced in some former experiences pleasantly not found at A Water's Edge. My husband (retired) and I (semi-retired), have stayed in three different rooms over the past four years (including both of the third floor suites in the heart of the summer), and found very comfortable central A/C accompanied by ceiling fans and cross-breeze windows located in each room, noting the highly intelligent Innkeepers execute good judgment concerning ensuring the Inn is always cool and comfortable in each of our stays. We enjoyed A Water's Edge so much that we even brought my elderly mother, then in her late 80's, to experience the charm, feasts, views of the lake and joie de vivre offered by the Innkeepers, Tricia and Rick Cody. We feel so fortunate to have found this hidden treasure in all ways, starting and ending with Tricia and Rick and their self-evident labor of love.

I've been staying at The Inn for nearly 20 years. I feel as if Pat and Lori have become friends…read moreduring that time. The only reason I don't give The Inn a five-star rating (because I love it enough to, personally) is that I realize I'm biased. So in fairness, here are the pros and cons. Pros: Wonderful, historical home that has been in the innkeeper's family since it was built. The ambiance to go with it! Antiques everywhere, interesting bits and pieces of the history of the island, cozy rooms with air conditioning or fans as you prefer, and windows that open. A view of the lake from the front, and more privacy from the rear of the house. Check out the reading nook on the second floor. Free Wi-fi. Continental Breakfast. You can put a small amount of perishable food in the fridge/freezer but not a whole lot, as the innkeepers live in the house. Lovely gardens, which Pat tends; especially his dahlias! Wait until you see them. Some are huge. You'll see. hummingbirds for sure! The front porch, which faces the lake, with a view of Cedar Point. You could see bald eagles, cormorants, geese, ducks, ospreys, and if you're there at the right time. Baltimore oriels, loons, and much more. Pat is knowledgable about the wildlife of the island, and will, for a small fee, take visitors to see unique features such as the Alvar. In season you can attend bird bandings -- ever seen a saw whet owl? Did I mention Lori's epic brownies, that she makes most afternoons? Yum! There is a private beach, but it's down some pretty steep stairs and rocky. But once down there, the water is very pleasant. Watch for endangered Lake Erie water snakes. Harmless, but they can startle you. You might find beach glass or pottery sherds from shipwrecks! Great conversations can be had here, and friendships made. The Inn was freshly painted this year and looks wonderful! Cons: The steps to the second floor are very steep, so if that's a problem, book one of the two first floor rooms. You'll share the bathrooms with other guests. I don't mind, but I know some people do, so keep that in mind, too. Kelley's Island is possibly my favorite place in the world, and The Inn one of my favorite places, too. In my heart, this is a five star stay, but it meets with my personal standards. It's a very old house, so if you're someone who wants everything new and shiny, probably not your place. But if you love atmosphere, excellent conversation, old books, antiques, front porch sitting, and the sound of the lake lulling you to sleep, it's for you!

It's run by some wonderful people who are very gracious very nice and the prices is very appropriate. The house is 148 years old and it's got some amazing characteristics. The house is part of the family heritage of the current owners. It needs some TLC and I'm sure it would be a lot of work to bring it up to any kind of a five star rating but it's got a comfortable atmosphere . They could use some new mattresses and like I said some TLC but the house owners were gracious, the continental breakfast was fine, and we enjoyed ourselves very much.

What sets this winery apart is its location--it's one of the few places in the area where you can sip wine while enjoying close proximity to the water. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the outdoor seating offered beautiful views that made our tasting even more enjoyable. Whether you're a casual wine drinker or a seasoned connoisseur, the setting alone is worth the visit. We had the opportunity to sample a wide variety of wines during our visit, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The tasting was well-organized, and the staff were both knowledgeable and friendly, making great recommendations based on our preferences. We were particularly impressed with the Pinot Grigio, which had a crisp, refreshing taste perfect for a warm afternoon by the water. However, it was the Cabernet that truly stood out for us. It had a rich, full-bodied flavor with just the right amount of complexity--a balance of boldness and smoothness that left us both savoring each sip. The Cabernet was so exceptional that we knew we couldn't leave without bringing some home. We ended up purchasing two bottles, and I have no doubt that we'll be reminiscing about our time at the winery as we enjoy them in the future. It's not often you come across a red that makes such a lasting impression, but this one definitely did. If you're in the Port Clinton area, I highly recommend visiting this winery. It offers more than just great wines--it provides an experience. Between the friendly staff, the well-curated wine selection, and the beautiful location near the water, it's a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some truly memorable wines. We'll definitely be returning!
