Lakeview Resort: Allegheny Plateau and Cheat Lake…read more Lakeview Resort is the only timeshare listed by Interval International in West Virginia. Lakeview Resort is in the Allegheny Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains. The elevation varies from 1,000' to 2500.' South of the Allegheny Plateau is the Allegheny Highlands, which varies from 2,000' to 4800.' Lakeview Resort is a timeshare community that is incorporated into a dynamic housing market overlooking Cheat Lake. While Lakeview Resort is near Morgantown, West Virginia, it is also near Pennsylvania and Maryland. Lakeview Resort provides a home base to explore southern Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and northern West Virginia. We have been trading into Lakeview Resort for nearly twenty years. The Interval International website photos are very accurate concerning the townhouse arrangement of Lakeview Resort. This property has long been sold out, although there are units listed on various resale markets. Be careful not to confuse the Lakeview Resort timeshares with the Lakeview Resort hotel. The hotel seems to have less favorable reviews than Lakeview Resort timeshare. Recall that Interval International does not list Lakeview Resort as a "premium resort" or "select resort." We find the Homeowners Association has maintained the property, and do expect an updated unit for your visit. The kitchen is a full working kitchen, and the combined living room dining area features a neat fireplace, which may be used during the summer evenings. The bedrooms and bathrooms have been updated, and always remain clean. Lakeview Resort provides ample parking for visitors and for guests. On-site amenities include a golf course, swimming pool, and access to the clubhouse amenities. We find that Lakeview Resort is a great four-season resort. Lakeview Resort may be used as a home base for Seven Springs skiing in Pennsylvania, Wisp skiing in Maryland, Canaan Valley, Timberline, or Snowshoe skiing in West Virginia. Autumn is very dramatic in the Allegheny Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains. Lakeview Resort is near West Virginia University, and the development of the university in recent years has added all the amenities of a small university city. There are several restaurants, both on property and in Morgantown and environs, which offer a menu and price range to fit most budgets. The newer Wharf District in Morgantown has become one of the best portals to the Caperton Trail. What was once an old warehouse district is now a revitalized growing commercial and residential center. Located next to the Monongahela River and the Caperton Trail, the Wharf District area is growing rapidly. It is best to park the car and walk through the shops and interesting areas of the Wharf District. Mountain State Brewing Co. is another interesting visit while in the wharf district of Morgantown. Serving hand-crated house microbrew, and gourmet wood-fired flatbreads, Mountain State Brewing Co. may be found in several West Virginia locations. Mountain State Brewing Co. reminds us of several Colorado brewpubs. Seneca Center is the site of a former glass factory, and the Seneca Center now offers gift shops and the Glasshouse Grill restaurant. Within an hour's drive is Fallingwater, Pennsylvania. Considered by some as the most famous private house ever built (Frank Lloyd Wright,) Fallingwater epitomizes man living in harmony with nature. The house, set amid 5000 acres of natural wilderness, is constructed of local sandstone, reinforced concrete, steel, and glass. It juts out over a waterfall on Bear Run, appearing as naturally formed as the rocks, trees, and rhododendrons, which embrace it. Within an hour's drive is Ohio Pyle, Pennsylvania in the Laurel Highland Mountains of Fayette County Pennsylvania. Ohio Pyle, Pennsylvania offers some of the best whitewater rafting in the eastern U.S. Ohio Pyle State Park offers hiking and biking along the 135 mile Great Allegheny Passage. Fort Necessity National Battlefield is near Ohio Pyle, Pennsylvania, and also near Uniontown, Pennsylvania. The battle at Fort Necessity in the summer of 1754 was the opening action of the French and Indian War. This war was a clash of British, French, and American Indian cultures. It ended with the removal of French power from North America. The stage was set for the American Revolution. The important history is that a young Virginia officer, George Washington was in command during the battle of Fort Necessity. Although this was Washington's first defeat, the battle would provide the young Colonel invaluable military strategy that would affect Washington's decision-making during the Revolutionary War. It is recommended that the tourist research the Battle of Fort Necessity to appreciate the historical event and the events that followed. A one and one-half hour drive east into Swallow Falls State Park, Maryland will provide some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery.

Over the last several years I have visited Seven Springs a couple of times to use extra days I had…read moreon my Epic Day pass. Seven Springs is about a 3 hour drive each way for me. Getting to the resort is reasonable and while the parking is mostly free each time I have ended up parking in the East Lot which results in a long walk through the Main Lodge and then to the Ski Lodge; not a lot of fun in full ski gear and carrying my skis. Both of my trips were in early spring so the ski conditions were ok, but not great. The slopes had decent snow coverage but there were large stretches of dirt between the slopes. Seven Springs has a good lift system that gets you up the hill and to the slopes efficiently. The slopes near the Ski Lodge are a bit shorter and generally easier. The North Face slopes are a bit longer and more challenging. The general feeling at Seven Springs is that the slopes are very wide open with not a lot of trees near the slopes. Seven Springs is a decent place to ski, however I find that it is not really challenging or charming. From what I have heard it is a great place for families to have a ski vacation as the lodge is slopeside and there is plenty of family friendly activities available. For a one day trip it is just ok, but I would only go there if I need to use up a ski day on the Epic Pass. Of course if it was closer to me it would be more appealing, also I would expect that if the snow coverage is good it would also be more fun. With all that said a day skiing is still a great day, for me there are better options for skiing about the same distance away.

Conference food was mediocre, but on par with other big events done at a moderate price. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful, and we did have fun at the bars. Now, I didn't ski there, but coming from the west coast, the ski hills seemed... tiny. Maybe there was some steeper stuff hidden away, and I am sure it would be a good place to learn, but you are going to graduate from the hills you can see from the resort pretty easily.
