So then we continued to the camp grounds. The parking was surprisingly cheap for downtown, $15 for 10 hours. HOLY MOLY. Thanks justin for covering that, u da bomb. So we parked almost directly across the street from the venue, badass.
So we bought our tickets @ the front box office. The box office was hella nice. Brick lined and clean, its the best looking box office ever! Also did i mention i cant read. So going into Friday I thought tickets were $14 so Ive been saving for this expenditure for a long time now since i am poor. You know how many cans you need to redeem to make $14?!? Anyway it turns out tickets were $8 OMG OMG HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??? CHA CHING$$$ Extra cash left over. Plus BOGO so $4.
So we go to the turnstiles and get felt up quite thoroughly. IDK if they were looking for cameras and firearms or checking for colon cancer. Anyways it was a woman so it was extra awkward. Ok so we hit the fair grounds and got a map and list of events.
On our way to the other end we passed a stage with a large number of half naked drunk moms on picnic tables. So we decided to take a look. Apparently Bon Jovi cover bands are a big hit in Wisconsin. This cover band was EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD. They were legit. Also, THREE HOUR SET.
So we walked around some more, checked out the get a hole in one win a car thing, they were hitting from some impromptu set up where is someone shanked the ball, someone would be missing kneecaps. So that provided some good entertainment, especially when someone whiffed and almost took someones head off on the backswing. Then there was a Pepper-esque band, quite good, had the roots rock reggae/rap-rock feel. We listened to then for some time.
OSNaP almost forgot fashion guru of the day. So there was this tubby asian kid who walked past us, from top down, rhinestone cowboy hat, generic sunglasses, horizontal striped polo with undershirt (note it was like 90 degrees) tight shorts, BRIGHT RED CROCS. OMFG I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING. Its like if Jonah Hill were Asian and dressed up like Billy Ray Cyrus wearing Crocs for Halloween.
So then we got some cheese curds courtesy of Lienenkugel. Expensive, yet satisfying. Cheesy breaded goodness, how could it be bad right? It was good. For dinner I had the Rueben "wraps" and by wraps they meant eggrolls. They were surprisingly good. Filling and inexpensive.
So its important to note that the stage THE OFFSPRING was to perform at was already packed and we needed seats, sorry Dropkick Murphys, we wont be seeing you this time. So we had some gator on a stick while we watch the bands before offspring. It was more like gator sausage, interesting flavor, BBQ sauce, all in all it was like combining all the meat from pork ribs and putting it on a stick. Was quite good, not enough gator flavor tho.
So the people around us were interesting, to the front we had a mid 30s couple, of course the man was a tall lanky skinny- right out of american gothic farmer dude, and his wife was a short chubby needy naggy whiney woman. PERFECT. The dude was really friendly with us and i think he wished he were 20 again. Funny story, right before the offspring came on stage she wanted him to get her dinner and water, unfortunately there wasnt enough room for anyone to go anywhere in a 100 yard radius (if not more) If someone sneezed they would headbutt the person in front, butt smash the person in back and shamu splash zone about 8 people on all sides. (now we know how swine flu and SARS are transmitted, rock concerts) So like an obedient husband he went to get it. Upon returning quite a bit later we almost saw a bout of domestic violence. I think his exacts words while he crushed her wrists were "WITCH YOU BEST NOT HAVE ME GO DO SCHIST LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN" she thought it was funny, and if not for him unable to life him arms because they were jammed to his sides due to no room to breathe anywhere, he fumed for a while (like the boiler from the shining).
There were 3 drunk middle aged working men behind us each with like 4 beers. Kinda scary since they were round and drunk. If they fell over, Joe and I would eat dirt and bench- speaking of bench, HOLY CRAP WHO PUTS METAL BENCHES for a rock concert? dumbest idea ever. NO MOSHING WTF. NO CROWN SURFING WTF. however, all vendors are required to use plastic bottles, SMARTEST IDEA EVER. so people dont break their faces.
So the OFFSPRING. OMG probably the best live show I have seen. The band hit all the right notes, and the vocals, OMG THE VOCALS. AMAZING. So of course their songs are 2 and a half to three minutes long so they played like a 20 song set list. AMAZING. Half old, self esteem, pretty fly, the kids arent alrite, and half new, kristy are you doing ok, youre gonna go far kid, etc. read more
