The food was absolutely delicious. The downside is they pre-charge a 20% gratuity when you receive the bill and it was only me dining. The server's response when I questioned was "we don't know how to adjust the bill at the end." That is so unfair. I always leave 20% tip but to be presume and enter a tip without my knowledge is unacceptable.

Amazing Thai in steamboat! Enjoyed every dish we got! So glad we found this spot. Small place with only 5 tables but we got in on a Friday night with no problem and were so impressive with the service and the food!

Second time here (years apart) and it's sooo good. It seems like a bit of blended Thai fusion; ingredients seem authentic, so spicier than our basic Thai place at home. Had the samosa, Singapore noodles, and pad Thai. Plenty for two people, great flavor, had some leftovers for lunch. As I'm sure all reviews say, it's a tiny and simple atmosphere, and they don't take reservations or a list. We waited about 20 minutes on a summer Wednesday (closed Tuesdays), and the rush was over by 7:00 and there was no wait when we left. It's. SO. GOOD. Tempted to go back tonight.

Oh MY! Literally "hidden" gem behind Dude and Dan's. Only 5 tables and it opens at 5 pm. One waitress and one cook/owner. The Thai food is the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot and in bigger cities. The entrees were generous size and I think next time I'll get the same two appetizers and could split an entree (but for the fact that he likes spicy and I don't). RE: spicy - there is a 5-point scale. My husband likes really spicy (so that his forehead sweats). He chose level 3 and it was perfect hotness (wouldn't want to go hotter). We each took home half our entree. I had pad Thai with chicken and he had Chilean sea bass which was expertly prepared "like silk" (he said). My pad Thai was the freshest I'd ever seen, full of colorful veggies. There is wine by the glass (only) and bottles (only) of sake. Two appetizers. Eat the Rolls with your hands or ask for a knife because the veggies are pretty thick. Dumplings were the best I'd ever experienced. I'd definitely get the dumplings again but maybe not the Roll. LIA'S ROLLS (GF) 11. Rice vermicelli, avocado, cucumber, carrot, greens, and basil wrapped DUMPLINGS (GF) 11. Steamed shrimp dumplings in rice paper Served with FABULOUS spicy ginger and garlic sauce

Would rate 2.5 stars if available. Usually I try to refrain from negative reviews however was so disappointed with our experience in taking time to write this the next day. We walked away hungry and disappointed. Location/service: easy to park, hours vary based on what you see online (via Yelp) so we ended up having to wait 30 minutes before they opened. There's lots of cute shops to check out nearby though! There was only one waitress to handle two tables of two - service was fine, but nothing special. She did find a way for me to take my ice cream dessert home since they didn't have any containers specific for it. Ambiance is low key, industrial. Looks like it might have been a garage in a previous life. Food: the Lei appetizer roles were fresh and delicious. I ordered the PHO with veggie broth and chicken which was not served with any traditional accoutrements (jalapeño, bean sprouts, hoisin, etc.). Honestly, it was pretty bland with the broth not really having any flavor. I did enjoy that fresh broccoli and carrot chunks were served in the soup but overall for the price tag would not recommend. My husband ordered the ramen which comes with chicken in a beef broth (plus a boiled egg). The beef had way more flavor but was still nothing special. I ordered the green tea ice cream for dessert which was great(though not sure if it was made in house). For two of us to order meal with one appetizer and one dessert, it cost $60 - in my opinion 20% overpriced. Overall, I likely won't return here and wouldn't recommend it to others visiting.

It's a really tiny restaurant. The 8 of us ended up waiting for about an hour on a Saturday night. Definitely don't recommend large parties. Our server/host jotted down our friend's name and phone number to notify us once our table was ready while we chilled at the bar next door. The wait is worth it if you're craving Asian food. Apparently, this place gets a lot of take out orders bc most people don't feel like waiting. 8 of us ended up splitting up into 2 tables. The first half of us ordered just before us and received their food about 15 min later. It took almost 30ish min for us to get our food. By the time the other table finished eating, we finally got our food. They were definitely understaffed but the food made up for it. My friends ordered the Martabak to start, which was essentially scrambled eggs and sausage that was deep fried in a pastry. Very delicious, highly recommend. I ordered the Laksa with spice level 4. Omg, amazing. The coconut milk made the dish a little sweet but the spiciness was no joke. The fried shrimp was so plump. The fish balls and tofu paired so well. I freaking loved this dish. My friend ordered the Panang Curry and really liked it! However, my bf said the Singapore Noodles were kinda bland. TLDR: Order the Martabak and Laksa. Highly recommend smaller parties or order take out.

My friends and I came to Sumatera while we were on a recent ski trip and it unexpectedly became the highlight of our trip. And to put things into perspective, we had just skied two days of over a foot of fresh powder. Sumatera is a unique cultural and dining experience that you are sure to enjoy. The chef is from the island of Sumatra and incorporates wonderful spices and flavors into all of her dishes. With that being said, the dishes can be very spicy so be warned. What makes this place so special is that every dish is created with so much pride and passion. Every note of flavor and spice is intentional and it assembles a perfect symphony with every bite. Sumatera is a must try when you're in Steamboat! Pro tip: don't order the Pad Thai. The chef prefers to make other dishes that showcases her cooking more!

Ugly delicious is the best descriptive phrase for curry. Photos are hard to justify why you need to try it but once you do... the flavor bomb in your mouth is to die for. Came in during shoulder season so it was slow and not packed. I can only imagine during high season how hard it is to get into this place. Everything is homemade there. You can tell the owners care about their food. I haven't spring rolls in forever which they called lumpia. That bothered me bc lumpia are Filipino spring rolls but I digress. We got the laksa and fish curry. Both were DELICIOUS. Flavor bombs!! The laksa was a little short on seafood but I get it we're in the mtns. I appreciate that you're not going to force frozen seafood into the soup. The broth was creamy, thick and flavorful. They use vermicelli instead of lai fun. No biggie just a heads up to those who are used to laksa from SE Asia. The fish curry was one of the best we've ever had! Fish was flavorful as was the curry. Huge chuck of fish. The rice was cold but it was the end of the night so we will look past it. All in all. Drop by. Some of the best Thai / SE ASIAN Food we've had in awhile! Who would've known you'd find it in Steamboat.

Great service!! Good flavorful foods. Portions are good as well. Some days they have dine in and on the second day it was take out only. Make sure to order ahead because it gets busy snd the smaller kitchen takes 1-1 hour 30 min wait for pick up. Both servers the lady and man were very helpful and nice. This place is spicy!!!! If you like spice but not too spicy I would do 2 and ask for spice on the size of u need more. Everything is spicy lol Curry was bomb with the rice Garlic shrimp was large and yummy Singapore noodles were really filling Pad Thai was okay. Not the noodle I was used to or hoping for but still very good and filling. They only have the thing bidder no fat noodle pad see eww style drunken. Noodles anymore.. Would recommend if u want a rice or noodles dish. Will come back next time I come in for a ski trip.

The service is beyond abysmal. Avoid this place. Food is mediocre but you can't get by horrible operations.

I've tried most everything on the menu and Sumatera has some of the best (and authentic) Indonesian food I've had, outside of Indonesia.
