For this event, we had to park almost 3/4 of a mile from the school since it was really full. Overall, it seemed like the students were and teachers got along well.

When real concerns arise--particularly when it comes to your child's individual needs--you quickly find that your voice as a parent is dismissed. The Head of School and Principal may smile and nod, but in practice, they act as though they know your child better than you do and are unwilling to make any meaningful changes that could actually help. There is also a serious lack of consistency at this school. Teacher turnover is high, and it's hard for students to build any real stability with constantly changing staff. In fact, most families tend to leave after preschool or first grade, and that speaks volumes about the experience many have here. Rather than address these retention issues, the school seems more focused on maintaining strong ties with families who are heavy donors--families who often seem to get preferential treatment and can pay their way into getting what they want. To make matters worse, the school appears more concerned with building a new gym than fixing the areas that truly need attention. Classrooms, curriculum, and student resources are outdated or lacking, yet fundraising efforts are aggressively geared toward facilities and image. It's hard to watch tuition dollars and donations go toward expansion projects while core needs are neglected. What made this situation even more infuriating was the transition to a new school. Once we left, we realized just how far behind our child was academically. After being assured for years that this school offered a higher standard of education, we were devastated to find out that was far from the truth. It felt like everything we had invested--financially and emotionally--was for nothing. Many and I mean many families when leaving Hillcrest will home school or go to another school and the first thing they say is I should've done it sooner!! This school promotes a beautiful mission on paper, but in practice, it falls far short. Unless you're part of the "inner circle" or a major donor, true partnership and support are unlikely.

The teachers and staff are very vigilant about safety and always let me know when something happens (usually minor, thank goodness, like cuts or scrapes). My son started in 7th grade and he is now is 11th and I literally have a smile on my face when I picture him being at Viewpoint. Easily, what stands out the most is the fact everyone in the faculty and administration seem to know my kid, personally...they are invested in all the kids..they aren't anonymous...my son feels like he is in a family type environment where people truly care about his welfare inside and outside of the classroom. That is a very rare characteristic for a school. I can't think on one single aspect of my son's education, from academics to administration, to sports, etc., that have not been handled with the highest level of care and professionalism. And, he has built a tremendous friend base at Viewpoint...definitely his second family. If Atticus Finch were to teach at a school...he just might pick Viewpoint. I will look back on Viewpoint and say it was perhaps the best money I have ever spent...and easily one of the proudest contributions that I have made to my son's young life. We came from a school across the valley, and the change has been completely life-changing for our family. 3 years later He is now in kindergarten with and just thriving! My child has been punched and I've been called and told that it's no problem and that the student that hit my child is actually in more pain because of the way they hit my child or that my should have not been near the situation so he wouldn't have gotten hit. Since when is a victim the aggressor? Seems wise to teach this. Recently, my child was choked in class and when the teacher was informed of the situation, nothing was done. This is the constant theme at Woodlake. If you care for your child's safety, it's best to take them to a school that will prioritize providing them a safe learning environment.

A school should be a place where children feel safe and protected, especially during unstructured times like lunch and dismissal when supervision matters most. Right now, we do not feel the school is taking the necessary steps to ensure a safe environment. We are asking Woodlake to implement clear, consistent measures immediately--stronger supervision in the areas where incidents are happening, a written safety plan for affected students, and prompt follow-through when physical aggression occurs. No child should have to worry about being hurt at school.
