The Carter Christmas Tree Farm is located in the heart of the Miller Place Historic District…read more Did you know The Carter Christmas Tree Farm listed on the National-Register of Historic Places? Open Saturdays and Sundays only, from November 17th until December 22nd, this is one of our Long Island treasures. I've been using a fake tree for a few years now. I missed having the smell of a real Christmas tree in the house. It gives a special holiday vibe when I see it all decorated. Sure, you can buy a tree from a guy on the side of the road. Drag it to your car and zoom away. How about taking a saw out in the field, choosing your tree and sawing it down?* That's exactly what I did at Carter Christmas Tree Farm. My wife then grabbed an end and we brought it to the front to get wrapped for travel. Don't worry, they have the saws available for you. Once you bring your tree home, you'll need a stand. I had an old stand, 4 screws that tighten around the tree. The tree I purchased from Carter Christmas Tree Farm had a thicker trunk. I had to run to Ace Hardware and purchase a new stand. Carter Christmas Tree Farm sells wreathes for your front door as well as other items needed to decorate your house for Christmas. Thanksgiving weekend is when we like to decorate, if your in the area I highly recommend Carter Christmas Tree Farm for your next freshly cut Christmas tree. *Next year I'm getting a tree with a root ball so I can re plant the tree on my property.

First, let me say that the hubby and I have had a real tree for the last 12 years. We have had them…read morein California, New Jersey and Rhode Island. (Husband is military) We have NEVER had this problem... SO MANY SPIDERS. Dude who left that review was not exaggerating. It wasn't just one or two. My husband thought I was crazy at first...until we woke up the next morning and there were little spiders EVERYWHERE. Obviously they aren't going to hurt us or anything but I have three little kids and I don't want them decorating a tree infested with spiders. I don't know if it's this place or the area, but might be buying a fake tree this year. We put the tree in our backyard. That's where it will live. The one star is for the actual experience of going to the farm and cutting down the tree. That was the best part. Bummer

I live in Bellmore NY, so for me to endorse a nursery in Lake Grove says something. Cheap Sam's is…read morea no frills nursery. They have a ton of stock. Most species are available in a variety of sizes, and they have a nice large selection of larger trees. If you're looking for Leyland Cyprus, they have the largest selection I've ever seen. We recently used them for not the first time to buy two large trees and several shrubs. One was a 16' Japanese Cherry. Only found out after we carted it over to its new home that they are poisonous to dogs. A couple of days later, they gladly took my return, and I exchanged it for an even taller Cleveland Pear. Quite a sight watching me drive that home in an 8' trailer. Speaking of trailers, Sam's works best if you have a vehicle capable of driving the unpaved lot. You drive up to your bush or tree, load it in, and drive off Pay as you exit. Finally, let's get to the big question: are they really cheap? I say, ish. You will definitely pay less than you will in any of the good Nassau County retail nurseries. On trees the price difference is noticeable. Same for the big evergreens. The smaller stock is still fair or better pricing. Like I said, for large purchases, I'll hook up the trailer and drive 60 miles round trip. Says a lot. My only wish was that they had a few more people walking the yard to answer questions and help you lift, or some way of letting them know you need help. It's a big place and it's hard to be seen. Even leaving some hand trucks around would help. Recommended.
