"It's like we're staring a bull in the eyes and thinking we're not going to get hit.", my husband said as we walked through the park on the way to Suelta Verde. We are in town to evaluate the possibility of moving a medium sized conference to Lyon's congress center. We have to try the restaurants near the center, as part of the job. We know to never eat Mexican food more than 100 miles from the Mexican border, but we've already tried Cite 33 and the Italian Terrazzuna(?) and both were decent enough for a return visit, so we hold some hope. At Suelta, we started with a Mojito, because it clearly claims to be a Mojito bar. For 7 euro I expect an expertly crafted cocktail. This did not taste bad, as I love mint, lime and sugar, however my husband and I were unable to detect any alcohol in the drink. The glass was so stuffed with ice, lime and mint that there was not much space for actual liquid. I finished it quickly and refilled the glass with peligrino water. Strangely, the water tasted exactly the same as the Mojito. I'm a lightweight and I was hungry. In this situation I usually can't have more than a few sips of beer before feeling tipsy. I'm pretty sure the Mojito was missing a couple key ingredients, as it had no effect on me. We ordered a hot dog for our son, daughter got the kids meal with quesadillas, husband got fajitas with chicken, mushrooms and mozzarella, as recommended by the server. I got shrimp fajitas, as they were unable to offer vegetarian fajitas because the vegis are already mixed with the meat. I order vegi fajitas at every Mexican restaurant I visit, it has never been an issue before. When the food arrived, it was even worse than the last Mexican restaurant I had tried in Europe, 20 years ago in Spain, after which I swore to never eat Mexican food too far from Mexico. To recreate the meal at Suelta, purchase a bag of Salsa flavored Doritos, a jar of Pace salsa, some frozen guacamole, and the most un-authentic factory made flour tortillas you can find. None of these items were freshly made. And they were the least authentic version of store-bought possible. The rice was undercooked and hard. There were no beans, no lime, no corn tortillas with the fajitas. For over 17 euros for my fajitas, this was a complete ripoff. Nothing tasted good except for my daughters French fries. And the ice cream dessert for the kids meal is an otter pop! A store bought, 20 cent, plastic tube of frozen chemicals. The music was great however. I recommend coming for the music, order a beer and French fries, and nothing else. Everything else is an overpriced mistake. One star for the music. read more
