I've had my hair and make up done for every major life event since I was 14 done at this Salon! From several Weddings to proms and graduations! Anitra even taught me how to do my make up when I started my first real job after college! They're amazing! I actually lived in Florida for a couple years and would fly home to see Courtney because I don't let anyone else touch my hair! I had told her since I was a kid that i was going to grow my hair down to my butt and then chop it off and donate it, she was so excited to help me right before I moved! I've had my nails done here a few times as well and they always come out gorgeous and last forever! Including for both my proms. My entire family now religiously goes to this salon. Today I was in for a facial with Kristen, my mom sees her regularly and the minute she saw my skin from the constant mask wearing she said I needed to go see her! I honestly don't think I'll see anyone else for a facial ever again! My skin is so clean and feels so good now! It was super relaxing I really thought I may fall asleep! And she was so sweet and easy to talk to, it was like chatting with someone I've known forever! Everyone that works here is always so sweet and so friendly! Which was an especially big deal during my awkward teenage years lol! They always made me feel beautiful and confident and continue to do so to this day! First of all, I come here mainly for my lashes, but as of late I've opened up to all of their new beauty options. Last visit I had my hair done up and highlighted and I am absolutely in love. The environment is so welcoming yet also high end. They treat you like a princess from start to finish. I've been getting my eye lashes done here for years and don't plan on changing anytime soon. my next step is to try nail salon! Trust me, you won't regret it. First time I ever had a very bad experience here. I normally come in every two weeks to get my eyelash extensions refilled. Meghan is awesome and never had any problems with her. This is not in regards to her, but regarding my experience today. I called to see if there was an eyebrow. wax and tint available and i was told yes. I get there and was told one of the receptionists messed up and they do not have that time available. I then asked if there was anyone else available and she stated yes, today at 215 PM. So i sit and wait. 2:15 come and goes. At almost 230 I go up and ask what is happening? No one can give me an answer. One of the girls goes to check but came back stating the door is still shut. needless to say, I still waited around for another 30 minutes and tell them i am leaving and the girl just said "i understand" . Very, very unprofessional and downright hostile owners, and we are uncertain if this salon is following Covid regulations. The atmosphere here is like that of a petty high school with overaged working women in Alex and Ani bracelets- with way too much attitude and not nearly enough class or skill, which is not really surprising because you're out in South Jersey at a place trying to pass off as high-end when it's really not. This is definitely not New York City. The seat I sat in was dirty with some hair and something that was stuck to it. They also overcharge without telling you they're doing "treatments" as I believe someone mentioned below. I didn't ask for one during my washing and was given and charged for one. Furthermore, my colorist was handling me and a client who needed a cut and dry at the same time- this is strongly advised against during the pandemic. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Canceling my appointment on short notice has happened at least 2 other times. I made this appointment in advance, and I was called as I was parking out front that the stylist "got sick" and canceled. I have a wedding to attend this weekend out of the area, and because of the short notice, I can't find any other salon. I was scheduled for multiple services too. I will never come back again, and I will be sure to tell any and every person I know to not go to this salon. read more

"There's a $5 COVID charge, the service is $23 (about a $4-$5 increase from my last time in). A$5 COVID charge!!!! Talk about 'porking' your customers to make up for lost revenue. DO. NOT. GO. HERE. I have had 2 experiences that should give this place 0 stars. Or -3 stars. Experiences: I go there for my graduation photo, i asked for a neutral look with a reddish lip. This lady gives me purple matte lipstick with gloss on top, 0 contour, Blotchy brush strokes and literally no eyeliner, i looked like a mole with purple lips. I went there for prom makeup, people have said they got better, bad choice on my part, i played myself. I sit on the makeup chair and the lady (Penny) goes, "well we have 15 minutes to do your makeup, lets get it done!" Are you kidding me?!!? This lady gave me NO concealer, which i asked for, and didnt even set my face with powder. I was literally so upset at the finished i cried running out. These ladies are complete A**holes and shouldnt be working in a makeup salon THIS. IS. TRUE. I love Yelp and i would not waste my time making up stories that were not true. I had received a $25 gift card to Suede as a present. Since the cheapest thing they offer is a manicure ($21), I booked an appointment. I hadn't ever been before but I have seen Suede many times while shopping in the Promenade. When I arrived, everyone was very friendly and they brought me back to the spa about 5 mins early. My nail tech, Lea, was wrapping up on another client and started working on me about 5 mins after my scheduled appointment. I appreciated that she didn't rush her other client just to start mine on time! They use all OPI colors, and have a decent selection but I have seen more colors. Lea was super nice and very hospitable! She took her time, was meticulous, and clean. If you are looking to book with someone in particular, I would recommend her! I would come back to Suede for a manicure. I only took off one star because of the lack of color I was looking for. read more

I got one of the best haircuts I've ever had here! This was my first time coming to Suede as I have just moved to the area. This salon was recommended to me by a family member, and they did not disappoint! Domonique was my stylist, and she was friendly, excited, and skilled. You could tell she loves her job. I had long hair down to the middle of my back, and I decided I wanted to get my hair cut just below my shoulders. Domonique did an amazing job giving me layers that easily blend together without looking chunky. She checked in with me along the way to ensure I was happy with the process. The haircut was $65 before tip which is on the pricier side, but it was worth it for me. When I've spent less money in the past, I've been so disappointed. Overall, I'm excited to have found my go-to salon! read more

A 3.5 star experience. This place is pretty high end and very expensive, and not worth all of the money. I came here twice to get my hair cut and dyed a while ago. First of all, the place is elegant, very spaced out and has a very expensive feel to it (for good reason). Since it is also a spa, you'll hear water running the entire time you're there, so that's pretty relaxing. It was extremely busy when I was there, and the wait is almost always 10-15 minutes even with an appointment. Now about the service--It was pretty good, I guess. The hairdresser I had was friendly and really wanted to give me the cut/color I wanted, and the haircut turned out pretty decent. It was just the price that really bothered me....and it's evident why they charge so much is for the upkeep of the whole fancy place. Overall, the job they did was decent, but definitely not worth the price. I go to The Alley now and pay half of what I did here! I'm glad I switched. read more

The one star I'll give Suede for the stylist who cut my hair, who did such an incredible job and has made my life so much easier by giving me a cut that works with my hair's thickness and texture rather than against it. The rest of my experience was nothing short of horrible. I have been getting my hair highlighted for north of 10 years. I've tried different salons, different stylists, etc etc but I've always had really great color. I used to go to this incredible stylist in Philly but I was always late to my appointments because I never could find parking in NoLibs, so I decided to look in Jersey instead. Big mistake. I decided to make an appointment for a partial highlight. I just wanted some face framing highlights, in a cool blonde tone that would be forgiving to my rosy cheeks. I showed the colorist some pictures and she said it looked like I wanted more of a balayage look because I didn't want highlights up at my root. (That was NOT what the pictures looked like but whatever) I said "yeah? I think? I don't really know, I just want it to look a little light around my face." She put a few foils in, then one of the girls in the back rinsed me out. Fast forward to being blown out: the color looked horrible. It was a very definite golden blonde tone, and there were unblended spots all over the place. I was mortified. The colorist came right over and sat me down to put some more foils in to lighten it up and re-tone it, adding an hour to my initial appointment length. Even after the correction, the color was pure amateur work. There were unblended splotches all over, the tone was totally off (she asked me if I had a purple shampoo because that would "help"), and the color was placed all around my head rather than around my face. I have since washed my hair with purple shampoo, and it did nothing to help. I have the honey blonde hair I always dreaded. To add insult to injury, this salon tried to charge me $150 for the color. When I booked my appointment, I chose a partial highlight that goes for "$80+" on their website. I chose this specifically because it fit my budget. They charged me for balayage because they said the colorist told me she was doing balayage instead, and while she did MENTION balayage, she didn't make it clear that she'd be charging me ~$70 extra. And to be honest, even IF I went in for a balayage, I would literally never pay $150 for the terrible work she did. I mean, I've never been this embarrassed by a color job! Anyway. The thing that REALLY REALLY sent me through the roof was they wouldn't honor the 20% off coupon I had. The manager said it didn't work for balayage services, even though the email clearly says that it works for everything except lash/hair extensions, makeup, and nails. So to summarize: I was being asked to pay $150 for shitty unblended highlights, and was then denied being able to use a coupon THEY sent me because there is some *mystery* balayage exception rule. Yeah. No thanks. This place is a JOKE. After telling them I'd never come back, they dropped the balayage price and charged me $100 for the color and $60 for the cut. $100 is STILL too much. I could have gotten the same results with a bowl of bleach from Sally Beauty Supply. Don't go here. Just don't. read more

If you want a haircut that will change your life, call Suede and book an appointment with Susan. She's been cutting my hair (and my family's) for the past 10 years and we're all in love with her. She's a true artist -- she takes a lot of pride in her work and makes sure to get a feel for your individual sense of style/preference to give you a cut that perfectly reflects your personality. I now live about 200 miles away but I still drive up to NJ every few months to have her cut my hair. The colorists are just as good as the stylists -- Maria R. and Kelly D. do perfect summery blonde highlights. The salon itself is beautiful -- hardwood floors, immaculate workstations, and a lovely "serenity room" where you can sit and read magazines until your stylist is ready for you. The prices are about average ($55 - $65 for a women's cut), but considering the quality of the services, it's a steal. In short: run, do not walk, to this salon. You won't regret it. read more

Nick is my favorite stylist! Never had a disappointing haircut! Kailene is a wonderful colorist! I was soo pleased with my highlights! Appointments are easy to make. The salon is very busy so if you are running a few minutes late, you will not miss your appointment. Tip: It is proper to give the guy or girl who washes your hair a tip of a dollar or two or as you see fit. Some give a mini-head massage while washing your hair - my favorite part! I booked an appointment at Suede this week for a makeup consultation to change up my look. The consultation is technically free, but you are guilted into purchasing a minimum of $75 worth of product (which is 2-3 items, maximum). I went to the register with 7 items that I did not know the costs of, so when the bill came to $200+, I asked them to remove the 3 makeup brushes I had chosen. I ended up leaving with $125 in makeup (4 items), and I was excited to test out what I had learned the next morning. Fast forward to the next morning - I unwrapped my new items and was ready to use my new liquid pen eyeliner, and realized I was given a cream eyeliner instead. Not only was that the wrong item, the makeup artist never used a cream eyeliner on me, only a liquid and a pencil. I was in a bind as I needed a new eyeliner prior to a birthday party we were attending, so I ran to the closest salon to purchase what I intended to purchase the day prior. I drove back to Suede after the party to return the eyeliner they had given to me. When I arrived, they told me the eyeliner was not on my receipt, but one of the brushes I had decided against was on the receipt instead. Luckily for me, the woman who helped with my purchase remembered our conversation about removing the brushes from my bill, and was able to vouch for the products I did receive, and that it was her mistake. Understandably, they needed to call the manager over to approve the return as it was a bit unusual. The manager confirmed that she would add the credit to 'my account'. Apparently, by 'my account' she meant they do not offer refunds of any kind, and that I could use the money towards a future purchase. I kindly reminded them that this was not my fault, but two of her employees had made mistakes; not only was I given the wrong product, it was rung up incorrectly and I already purchased a replacement elsewhere. She said she'd offer a 'one-time courtesy' and give me my money back, to which I replied that if she felt the need to use a 'one-time courtesy' on an issue that her employees caused, I would not be returning. Bad business practices and essentially blaming your customers for bad service should never be tolerated. Other salons are not so desperate to keep customers that they feel the need to retain their money on file, rather than rightfully returning it. read more

This salon is a must go to!! From start to finish, it was an amazing and relaxing experience. All of the staff members were super friendly and accommodating. Meg worked on my color and did such an incredible job. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she gave me just that! She was thorough in explaining what the process would be and was attentive to detail when executing. Afterwards, Gloria did my haircut and blowout and gave me exactly what I wanted! This was my first time back at a salon since COVID and I felt super safe. All staff members and customers were wearing masks at all times and the staff was constantly cleaning after each customer. I went here to get my roots touched up and a haircut recently, my first time. Everyone was very nice and it was really clean and done well for COVID. I looked up prices online beforehand, so knew it would be on the expensive side. However, my bill ended up being more than double what was expected. And while the color looked really great, which made the cost more justifiable, my haircut was uneven. When I looked in the mirror when I got home, one side was about an inch shorter than the other. I trimmed it myself and had to touch up some other uneven strands. For the cost this was crazy to me! read more

I dont know what I would do without Heather Nieves, who has dealt with me through many failures of box coloring. I always have an idea and im always blown away at what my hair looks like after!! If you have curly hair, you must see SUSAN! She will take the time to learn your hair and most importantly TEACH you how to do it yourself. I followed her tips at home and it worked wonderfully :) She had a 15-20 minute consult with me before getting started on the cut, she really listened to what kind of look I was going for, and she honestly gave me the BEST haircut I've had in a long time. She takes her time and she always tells you what she plans on doing before actually going at it (which I appreciate). She is amazing! I've never had a hairstylist take so much time to address every question. Susan is definitely a warm-hearted individual who really loves what she does. She is also well-trained! I found out she had spent extra time learning how to tame curly hair in New York City and she gladly shared her techniques with me as she was cutting and styling my hair. By the end of my session, she had written down all of the items we had discussed ranging from the type of shampoo I need to use for my hair to a book to read about curly hair. I think Susan is truly a wonderful hairdresser and stylist. I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who really wants a personal one on one session with a hairdresser. read more

I first met her when one of the receptionists recommended her for my wedding formal style. I had never went to Suede before this and I was looking to book the salon for myself and my bridal party on my wedding day. I instantly liked Courtney when I first met her for my bridal trial. She was very attentive and made me look even better than my hair inspiration picture. I knew I had to go back to her. I booked my entire wedding party for hair and makeup at the salon. My girls and I all looked amazing! Courtney did such an amazing job during my bridal trial that I also booked an appointment with her for the day after my wedding to get my haircut. I have had long hair my entire life and I wanted it all cut off after my wedding. Courtney again did an amazing job! I even had a complete stranger compliment me on my haircut. I have never had a preferred regular hairdresser but I do now! I will definitely be going to Courtney for my haircuts from now on! I think this place has increasingly gone down hill. Had gotten my hair done, came out after one time I had taken a shower. They offered to fix it so I went back and was told the color will wash out a little after the FIRST time I rinse it. Now ANYTIME I get my hair wet, let it be rain, and I will find lots of staining on my clothes. If my colorist had informed me correctly I would have chosen another option. Will never go back to this place ever and I suggest you save yourself your money and time. I had also gotten shampoo here which my stylist also told me wouldn't irritate my scalp or anything. Even thought I had told her that I have a very sensitive scalp she reassured me it wouldn't bother me. Well that was another joke. My scalp had never been so red and irritated. The best part is I think about how my color will drip out when wet, my stylist would dry my hair almost completely for free! I was wondering why she was doing it haha. And now I know it's to cover her ass and get more money in her pocket. Never again will I come to this place. They are liars and they are cheap. Update: I had let my colorist know I had a bleaching problem and she continued to add highlights and now those pieces of hair are completely a different texture from the rest of my hair. Front desk staff are not very friendly. The girls that wash your hair and the stylists, however, are always very nice. I've had three different women cut my hair here. I used to go for half off Mondays when I was a student (now 40% off) and those days were always hectic and crowded. They do an okay job at cutting and styling but really it's nothing special so only go if you want a basic trim.
