Punjabi thali lunch on Tuesdays
S Krishna S.

You gotta try the Punjabi Thali specials on Tuesdays... just can't go wrong at $3.99. The thali comes with Rice, Roti, Saag (Spinach), Daal and Chole.. all items cooked to perfection and tastes homely (huge reason for me to venture here every tuesday). The quantity is just perfect for lunch.... As long as you don't mind the extremely causal atmosphere inside a grocery shop, the loud conversations from the kitchen... you would enjoy the food for sure. They have specials for pretty much every day of the week. For Weekends, Halwa Poori and Chole... Dang! Why can't everyday be a weekend :-) Check out my picture for how the punjabi thali looks... Bon Apetite !!

Papdi chaat

My aunt and grandmother comes here quite often for their fruits and vegetables. A big plus is that they are the only grocer in the Richardson/Garland area that I can find baby mangoes. Score! Everyone asks me where I get them and I tell them Subzi Mandi. The Asian grocer will typically have the regular unripe, green mangoes. Their prices are fairly decent but the market could use a bit of lysol on the floors and sprucing up in general. The last visit, the line at the chaat corner was a bit long so I passed it up since I was in a rush. The last time I tried the chaat corner, it was my first time trying papdi chaat and pav bhaji. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they both tasted and have been wanting to go back for to try other items on their menu. I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing much Indian food but I think this place is a great place to start.

Decent buffet for under $10. The chili chicken was excellent. It's located inside the grocery store in the back left corner.

Love the Amritsar Kulcha. On Wednesdays they have 99 cent chaat, which rocks my world.

When I'm traveling and don't have the comforts of my grocery stores and restaurants nearby, my go…read moreto is Yelp. I use Yelp for everything to find what the locals are talking about. I was craving for healthy Middle Eastern goodies and Blue Fig came up on Yelp. We ventured to this store located in a sparse shopping center in the middle of beautiful homes. What we found... Ample parking Clean interior and for its small space it certainly carries many essential items: Home made flat bread - a must! It's baked on the old stone round ovens. I found rose water used for cooking in savory dishes and even in the sweets I bake. A tip for you ladies, the rose water in Middle Eastern markets are well priced and I use it as a toner for my face. I found some frozen Indian Roti in the frozen section amongst many other international goodies. Also, my favorite Turkish cheese or Lebanese cheese Labneh was priced well. Also got a can of garbanzo beans to make home made hummus. Definitely a must to go here if you are in the area. All the prices were reasonable. Why 4 star and not 5. There was only one cashier open and she was talking to another worker as the lines started to get longer. As for service you will have to look for it and ask questions. Overall a good first time experience and got all the necessary items we needed. I almost forgot, they have a small fresh fruits and vegetables section. Enjoy!

This is specifically not allowed for health reasons apparently and second too dangerous for my dog. Tried to explain that is a violation of the ADA but he wouldn't hear of it. I said I would no longer come there and report him. Well the DOJ is responsible to enforce the ADA and can fine the store up to $75,000 for first offense but they claim while my complaint is valid they will take no action. Also notified Ken Paxton's office-awaiting response.

The market has a lot of diverse wares, both Asian-centric and more generic foodstuffs. While the meat and vegetable sections were decidedly cheaper, and much better bargains for your money, pretty much everything else is either market value or pricier than other Asian markets. I would caution, as other posters have mentioned, to check the expiration dates of anything you want to purchase, as I noticed lots of stock on the shelves was already expired. That might also mean even items marked with a later expiration date may not be as fresh as advertised. As with most authentic Asian markets (maybe ones not named H-Mart), it isn't the cleanest, nor does it smell that good, but you're not there to sleep or live, haha. The setting doesn't necessarily reflect on the quality of food, especially if it's packaged or sealed. I'd personally pass and try to find another Asian market, but if this location is the easiest or closest for you, especially given the paucity of Asian markets in Texas, it's not a terrible choice.
