I have been shopping and eating (catering and eating in) for over 15 years. On Friday of last week, I got into line to check out. I had already purchased restaurant food to take home and paid at the restaurant. I had 4 items in my cart. There was a woman whose idea of shopping without a cart is to go to any check out line and put her items on a closed lane. When it was my turn to check out, she said something to the clerk in Hindi/Urdu and started putting her 15 items in front of my 4 little things. The clerk looked at me and asked me to let her go first. I said no! She was not in line. She shoved her things in front of mine and the clerk continued to check her out. I'm usually a very quiet person, but this angered me so much that I told the clerk and the customer how unfair they were. On top of that, there was no one in line behind me. Some people feel that they are superior and try to push around quiet people like me. Another day last week, I asked the clerk where some it's were located...she was on her cell phone and with out speaking to me I followed her and she went to the aisle, pointed to the item and walked away while still talking on her cell phone. I will not be going back to that store. They have enough competition in Dallas that I can go elsewhere. I hope the manager of the store sees this and contacts me. read more

Poor customer service, especially rude staff at the Register. Vegetables are wilted & doesn't seem fresh. Vegetable racks are rusted. On few of the items expiry date is wiped out with black ink. Dining area is yak. Food from the eatery is not good at all and is not hygienic. Washrooms are the worst. read more

It was the worst customer service experience ever . Wont give them any business in future and I will make sure none of the people I know go there either . I walked in and said Hi to the accountant lady in yellow shirt , she asked me where I was from and as soon as I told her , she ignored me went on to serve another person and started talking to her while giving me a rude look. Fact is the person she was talking to was my employee and i was his boss . She grabbed food with her bare hands so I ended up throwing it away and I will make sure no one from my business goes to this horrible place . It has left me in a very bad taste and her personality reflects the kind of upbringing she had . You gotta try the Punjabi Thali specials on Tuesdays... just can't go wrong at $3.99. The thali comes with Rice, Roti, Saag (Spinach), Daal and Chole.. all items cooked to perfection and tastes homely (huge reason for me to venture here every tuesday). The quantity is just perfect for lunch.... As long as you don't mind the extremely causal atmosphere inside a grocery shop, the loud conversations from the kitchen... you would enjoy the food for sure. How does this place not have more stars?! It's amazing in here! I went in here on a whim one day while in the area; had it in mind to look for vegetables and was not disappointed. The selection isn't huge, but it is varied, fresh, and inexpensive. Cheapest prices I've seen for peeled garlic and lemons! The store is well organized and aromatic. A great amount of spices, tea, and soaps. For beauty supplies, they have things like sweet almond oil, coconut oil, aloe vera juice, and rosewater. The most surprising and awesome thing I found was hand-dipped incense (which is nearly impossible to find!!) Today I tried the vegetable biryani and some samosas. The samosas were FAT and came with delicious sauce (green and red). The biryani was just the right of spicy and so flavorful! Would totally go back to try other dishes. read more

After many many... many.. trips to the local Indian stores with my mother as a child, I had certain (low) expectations of an Indian grocery store.. one word sums it up: clutter. But then! Now a grown up, testing how well my sponge-like brain actually soaked up the knowledge bestowed on me by my very cute Indian mother, I ventured to the closest Indian store to me... Subzi Mandi. I was floored! The familiar smell of spices was there but... It had clean aisles! Items were priced! There was actually a conveyor belt at the cashier station! I love how it was a mini-Walmart of all Indian stores in one... a Chaat corner, fresh produce, basic boxed goods from India, Pakistan and England and Bollywoodbuster for those nights where I need 4 hours of make-believe and dancing :) I wish the beauty corner was open b/c I would have loved to see if they offered eyebrow threading. All in all... for the Indians who are fearful of shopping without your dear mummy, fear no more! Subzi Mandi has everything that you'll recognize from your childhood. My aunt and grandmother comes here quite often for their fruits and vegetables. A big plus is that they are the only grocer in the Richardson/Garland area that I can find baby mangoes. Score! Everyone asks me where I get them and I tell them Subzi Mandi. The Asian grocer will typically have the regular unripe, green mangoes. Their prices are fairly decent but the market could use a bit of lysol on the floors and sprucing up in general. The last visit, the line at the chaat corner was a bit long so I passed it up since I was in a rush. The last time I tried the chaat corner, it was my first time trying papdi chaat and pav bhaji. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they both tasted and have been wanting to go back for to try other items on their menu. I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing much Indian food but I think this place is a great place to start. read more

I had driven by this farmers market a few times. I'm in town visiting my sister and we drove by this place while seeing about our dad. I was pleasantly surprised by the way the store was laid out, the different choices of spices and the prices seem very reasonable. I have been transitioning to a plant based diet, and i can't wait to use some of the spices I picked up. You should stop by, keep an open mind and enjoy the culture of someone else. read more

Subzi Mandi is an Indian Grocery store up in Garland. Though there is a lot more stuff than grocery available there. It has a small restaurant that serves lunch buffet and dinner (though the items are limited). It has a Chaat corner. There is a small Indian beauty salon as well, a bollywood movie rental place and a Paan shop! You'll find almost all Indian grocery along with all the utensils that you need. Grocery and spices are priced pretty cheap. The Sher-e-Punjab restaurant is below-average at best. Food isn't that good. Though the Parathas are an exception. Their Chaat center is amazing. You have a wide variety of chaats to choose from and every Wednesday the chat is $1/plate. You're bound to see serpentine lines all day Wednesday. The Paan shop is great! Love the guy. He'll make you what you need. But this place sure needs some cleaning. It's a bit shabby and smelly and that might drive many customers away. Good Indian grocery store. On this trip I accompanied my mother to Subzi Mandi. We actually went for the chat and it wasn't as good as it has been in the past. There was only one lady working in the chat area. When we ordered from the menu above, she kept on saying, "we don't have it, wedon't have it." Well what do yo have, I asked. And also mentioned that they need to change the menu if they no longer are serving these items. Ridiculous!!! Oh and please use the restroom before you leave your house/apt. I'm just sorry I had the displeasure of using the restroom. It was NASTY!!! Poop everywhere and the whole bathroom was unsanitary. I really loved the quality of their naan; it was soft and well cooked. the aloo paratha was okay; not bad, but not amazing. the bhel chat was really flavorful. the quantity is a bit small but it's cheap. service: the ladies that worked there were really nice and the food was delivered within 10 mins. overall I would recommend this place! read more

I was at the Subzi Mandi - Valley Ranch,Texas a few minutes ago. The entire section of greens, spinach, curry leaves, coriander leaves etc section has very really dry stuff probably because they are/have been not-properly refrigerated. When I mentioned this to their person at the counter ( I think it was the owner's daughter or some female relative of the store owner/manager at the counter, and she was the only one), her response was shocking. She first said it is because of the weather. Then when I questioned that saying shouldn't it be fresh because of cold weather, she changed her story saying it is all new stuff and it because I came to the store late at 9.00pm (I just got out of office only now!) and the store closes at 10.00pm, that is the reason that veg section is all dried stuff now. Again I questioned her saying that I have been in the US for more than 20 years and no grocery store has stuff dried up just because someone comes to store at 9.00pm, she said if you come late it will all be dried up stuff only. I told her that is a bad answer and poor customer service. Extremely poor customer service. This needs to brought to the Food Authorities attention if this attitude continues. Me: "Hi do you have sugar cane? I'm talking about the raw kind. Sticks of sugar cane." Woman on phone: "Oh yes, we have plenty." I drove out thirty minutes, and of course, two different people had no idea what I was talking about. I looked all over the store, and they didn't have any sugar cane. I recently visited this store and am very unhappy about my experience. Another web site with reviews of this store notes overcharges, and reviews also note the quantity of expired food at this store. I did sort through many boxes of spice to find one that was not expired. I purchased one small package of garam masala, a spice mix. The sign on the shelf put the price at 2.98. I paid with my debit card and when my statement came, the charge was 19.96. Rip off! read more

The staff at the subji mandi dining place are so friendly and patiently serve food to the customers, even on $1 specials days. Their thali for $3.99 on weekdays and $2.99 Gujrati Thali on Thursday is very good. Always good currys and great naan/roti to go along with rice. Cheapest place in town! read more

Their prices are exorbitant. Under many of their price stickers is another one of half the price. Their imported items from the UK? Up to triple the item price printed by the manufacturer, after converting to US dollars. And that counter at the back, not operated by S.M. but still a reflection on its business (Bombay Sweets/Chat, which isn't listed on yelp), overcharged me (as in more came out of my bank than I signed for), put things in my box I didn't request, sold me soured, spoiled sweets, and violates Mastercard/Visa policy by requiring a minimum purchase. I am white, and I am sure they never would have done that to one of their asian customers. The only two stars are for location and selection within selected areas of the store. Nasty food. We were so hungry and ordered their most expensive items. I don't think their cook have the slightest idea about Punjabi cooking or Indian dishes. You see a bunch of owners walking around like customers but no service. They don't even use the right kind of naan or bread instead they use thick white tortilla. Instead of cilantro, they chop up the iceberg lettuce and cook it and give it to you. They must think of the customers as idiots.
