She then took my tag and I paid- I got part of my food order - waiting on the coffees (counter lady was waiting on one of my sandwich- they said 'working on it') she went to take other orders- still no help from people standing there. Counter lady finished filling my bag- I left- got in truck- one of the two McGriddles was a Biscuit!! Uggh- ate it anyway (didn't want to wait another 20 minutes) Bathroom was very messy- one stall out of order- paper everywhere.

*A Restroom of Mystery, Muffins, and Mild Mayhem*…read more Ah yes, the semi-clean restroom. That enigmatic middle child of the public hygiene family-not quite a biohazard, but not exactly a spa day for your senses either. Let's begin with the ambiance. Upon entry, I was greeted by the familiar "Eau de Lemon-Chemical-Meets-Regret" scent, which is always a promising start. The floors were mostly dry, save for one suspicious puddle that seemed sentient and probably had a name. (I called it "Gerald." We're cool now.) Now, the urinal situation. Oh boy. There it was. A display that defied logic, biology, and basic decency: a half-eaten muffin perched like a sad gargoyle on the lip of the urinal. Was it blueberry or possibly banana nut? Either way, questioning every decision that led it to this point in its short, crumb-filled life. Was this a snack break gone wrong? A protest? A new form of passive-aggressive art installation? We'll never know. Final verdict: Come for the pee, stay for the pastries. Just don't ask questions.

Here is what I sent them and I have not and will not ever go back: No Response to Survey Feedback - Poor Service Continues I was looking through my email and found one I sent to McDonald's "Survey" with an option to have someone contact me. They never did. Seeing the reviews here, I can see why. Here is what I sent them, and I have not and will not ever go back: I visited McDonald's #24620 yesterday evening and was disappointed by the overall service experience. Despite being the only customer in the drive-thru, I waited a few minutes before anyone took my order, and the employee on the speaker sounded annoyed that I was there at all. The payment window experience was much better - the staff member was friendly and happily added fries to my order when I asked. Unfortunately, things went downhill at the pickup window. The employee opened the window without any greeting and simply stuck my drink out. When I smiled and asked "how are you today?" I received only a frown and complete silence in return. Her only communication was telling me to "pull up to window 3" while pointing to window 2. Thankfully, the young man who delivered my food at the correct window was friendly and professional. I'm not looking for anything free - just sharing feedback. With so many dining options in the area and service like this, I'm unlikely to return to this location. Side note: I was surprised that medium fries cost $3.50 while double cheeseburgers were under $3.00 each. The pricing seems backward.

I saw something about a hamburger, it was lunch time and I decided to take the detour into town and see if I can get something to go. Suddenly, I was in downtown Elizabethtown, and it was quite charming. A lot of times I go through the small North Carolina towns that used to thrive at one time but are now pretty much shut down and deserted. It was not the case with Elizabethtown. I saw coffee shops and boutiques and clothing stores and of course, Melvin's. When I first walked in, I got nervous because there was a long line and I was not in the mood to be waiting a long time to get a hamburger unless it's for White Castles. But let me tell you something, Melvin's got it worked out to a science. One person takes your order. One person makes your hamburger. One person puts the hamburger in the bag and the other person takes your money. I was in and out of there in less than 2 minutes. It cracked me up. The menu is quite limited. You can have a hamburger or a cheeseburger or a hot dog and that's it. You can't even get fries. You can get a bag of chips which is what I did and some random cookie for a dollar. I enjoyed getting in the car and having my lunch for the ride back home. The hamburger was good and so was the pric... less than five bucks. I got it all the way with coleslaw and ketchup and mustard. and chili Melvin's has been around forever, and it was clear that the locals love it. The line was long and the place was pretty full. People are in and out of there in a few minutes. So anyway, if you're on your way to the beach and on 87, grab a burger at Melvin's and keep the tradition going at Melvin's.

It's just that kind of place that brings me so much comfort. This restaurant is reliable, unfussy, and really good at what it does. As is the case throughout the South, the fresh brewed iced tea is one of the highlights. One sip and it immediately tastes like home. My favorite thing on the menu has always been and will always be the Brunswick stew. It's absolute comfort food that's warm, hearty, and nostalgic in a way that hits every time. It's an Eastern North Carolina tradition, and Smithfield BBQ is one of the best in the business. As for other regional specialities, the hushpuppies deserve their own shoutout too. The slightly sweet cornbread batter is perfectly fried every time, which makes these little carb morsels crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. I've been eating them dipped in ketchup since I was a kid and I'm not about to stop now. Quit quietly judging me, LOL! The bbq sandwiches are messy and not designed to be easy to eat on the go, but the bbq plates are the best deal. I love getting the pulled pork plate with potato salad (the best). Since I'm Eastern N.C. born and raised, I basically was born with a taste for classic vinegar bbq sauce. Smithfield's is terrific, and I love drowning my pork in that tangy goodness. Every bite seriously brings me back to lazy summer Sundays hanging out with my best friend in my Grandmama's grassy backyard. You can't put a price on those culinary memories.   Service is fast, takeout is easy, the dining room's small but cozy, and there's even a drive-through for when you're in a hurry. Smithfield BBQ is not trying to be trendy or fancy, nor have they ever been. It's just a place that serves really solid Eastern North Carolina BBQ done right. For me, Smithfield's isn't just a restaurant, it's a family tradition.

The dining area itself appeared clean, and their posted health inspection score was a 94. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with fries and cheddar cheese bites, along with a half sweet tea and half unsweet tea. Everything came out hot. The cheddar cheese bites were especially good and full of flavor. The fries were hot but a little underdone and not very crispy, although they still tasted good. The half-and-half tea was excellent and very refreshing. One major downside, however, was the condition of the men's restroom. It was in rough shape, with splattered soap all over the vanity area and generally poor cleanliness. It was unpleasant enough that it would make me hesitate to bring my wife or family here unless that situation improves. So overall: friendly service, hot food, and some tasty items on the menu--but the restroom cleanliness needs serious attention. Fix that, and this place would make a much better impression.
